Mitchell and his staff are helpful, efficient and kind. I'm so glad I found a reliable mechanic that I know will do great work on my car and also take the time to inform me of everything that has been worked on or needs work without trying to up-sell me at all. My car has never ran better and it's all thanks to Mitchell and the guys. more

Mitchell came highly recommended by my work colleagues. I had a reoccurring noise issue that couldn't be resolved by three different auto mechanics. I was at my wit's end. He took the time and patience to test drive my car with me and discuss various possibilities for the aggravating noise. I left my car with Mitchell. He called two hours later, explaining the problem was resolved! The price was extremely reasonable and I was able to drive my car that very day without that noise! I couldn't be happier and Mitchell's Auto Repair is now where I shall take my car for servicing and repairs. more

I've been to many repair shops over the last few months trying to resolve a noise concern with my Jeep Liberty. Finally I walked into Mitchell's shop and after talking to him and going on a test drive with him I was confident that he would be the one to fix my truck. I got a call from him just a few hours later telling me what was wrong. I gave him the ok to fix it. And sure enough the noise went away. Mitchell took the time to explain how it works and show me the bad parts. Fair price! I will be going to Mitchells auto from now on with any other problem I have. Thank you Mitchell more

Anyone who has ever owned a car knows how important it is to take care of it, so it takes care of you. Unfortunately sometimes we let things go for too long and wind up having more than one issue to deal with. \r That was my case, but I thank G-d for leading me to Mitchell's Auto Repair. Mitchell took the time to explain what was happening with my car and why with patience and genuine concern. \r I've been driving around with a ""check engine"" light for over a year and 3 different mechanics couldn't figure out what the problem was. Mitchell found the issue, resolved it and for the 1st time in a long time, I don't see that orange symbol staring at me from behind the steering wheel :)\r If you're in need of excellent auto repair, it's right here in Brooklyn and and even if you live in Long Island or N.J coming to Mitchell's Auto Repair is worth it! more

Hello Everyone,\r \r I am writing in again to express my extreme appreciation for Mitchell's Auto Repair!\r \r On October 14th, I took the 1990 Toyota Camry for an oil change and to replace the broken front passenger side interior door handle. I arrived after 3:00 and Mr. Mitchell and his talented crew had me back on the road in about forty minutes. Also, he took it upon himself to add more washer fluid as he noticed it was running low.\r \r In a nutshell: The price was right, Mr. Mitchell and his team are on point, and I will continue to trust them for future auto services! more

I brought in my 2002 Subaru Forester to Mitchell last week, on the recommendation of a friend.\r He was very honest, very friendly, identified and fixed the problem promptly and the cost was completely fair.\r I had expected this repair to be longer and more expensive - I VERY MUCH appreciate that Mitchell and his staff helped me out promptly, politely and respectfully!!\r Thanks to them I just drove that old Subaru across the country non-stop without a single hitch.\r \r These guys are the best and I recommend them highly! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 11/24/2013

I first heard word of Mitchell's shop not long after I bought a 40 year old Ford van. I was checking out a gas leak coming from the tank when a couple came up to me sharing their enthusiasm for old ""boxes on wheels."" They recommended Mitchell from their personal experience with him over the years.\r \r I called him up and he was kind enough to take the time to explain all the possible issues causing the leak, before even seeing the van. I drove down to the shop to have him check it out and have an all-around look at the vehicle. He was very welcoming, took the van for a test drive with me, then had me take a look at the underside with him once it was up on the lift. He found the cause of the leak immediately, then went over the rest of the van with me.\r \r I had requested a general tune-up, but he was very straightforward and honest, tuning and adjusting only what was necessary, saving me a chunk of cash.\r \r Mitchell is incredibly knowledgable and explained a number of quirks I would have been clueless about on a 40-year old vehicle. He and his crew are doing an excellent job, and saved me a lot of time and potential frustration. Thanks! more

I've owed this guy a review for the longest time. Found hime when i google ""best mechanics in brooklyn"" Easily the best mechanic in Brooklyn and he never even touched my car. Here's what I mean, brought my car there to ask him a few questions, he offered to put it on the lift for free and tell me what needed to be replaced that he could see. This guy ended up saving me a ton of money and headaches as all the problems I thought were wrong with the car wasn't even the worst of what was wrong. And he did all of that for FREE, left his mechanic a pretty decent tip for looking at the car and telling me everything that he saw. Mitchell didn't BS me like other mechanics have, didn't offer to ""fix"" anything that didn't need fixing. Such an honest and personable guy i suggest everyone take their car here for work. He's the epitome of customer service! Came in for a problem I thought was major and he told me the worst tht could happen which honestly was just a CEL, instead of having me to fork over 1k+ in repairs he advised that itd be cheaper just to live with the light. How many mechanics tell you the honest truth while you dangle money in their face? Such an honest individual.\r \r P.S. Hey Mitch, this is the guy with the silver/gray maxima. thanks for all the advice! more

Fantastic Mechanic Experience. Really? Really! 6/12/2012

I called Mitchell on a Sunday night and he called me back on a Sunday night! Firstly, that is rare and incredible. On Monday morning I brought my car in and within minutes, Mitchell pinpointed the problem with my car. It was a minor issue and he fixed it right then and there. I was in and out in about 35 minutes and had some great conversation to boot. I have found my mechanic for my Honda and will always go back. more

Great Experience, thanks Mitchell!!! 1/5/2012

I visited Mitchell's before a long road trip to have my car checked out. I couldn't have been happier with my experience. Mitchell and his crew did great work and were honest, quick and friendly. I'm shocked that my first review in years is for an Auto Repair shop! more

good, honest, really! 12/28/2011

I've had my car service at Mitchell's Auto for many years and while I know that you can and may be skeptical, but in this case you'd be incorrect. While I know that it's hard to find a trusted mechanic, he's one. more

Once I gave it to him he said ""newer cars do not need tune ups, maybe an oil change, new filters and wiper blades"". He sounded like a nice guy so I made an appointment. When I got there he was very personable and really looked at my car. He noticed and showed me that my serpentine belt was about to snap. He also asked when was my last oil change. Oil change? Never. Mitchell took a look ""18,000 miles and no oil change you are a very lucky guy"". The oil was thick. He informed me of the differences in the types of oils :synthetic and natural and recommended synthetic would be best for me as it would help remove the sludge. After everything was done, in about an hour or so he told me how to take better care of my car and placed a sticker in the car to remind me of my next oil change. Mitchell also recommended a guy across the street to paint over three separate key marks on my car ""where do you live, in a war zone?"" he asked, ""Manhattan"" I said. "" Gee you must be a real A-hole"" he said laughing. Maybe, but at least I know a nice guy when I see one. more

Mitchell is the best 10/29/2011

Mitchell's Auto Repair, Brooklyn, NY REVIEW Diogenes -- look no further. We found an honest, intelligent, communicative and experienced auto repair person in Mitchell Zelner of Mitchell's Auto Repair in Brooklyn. After reading an article about his work in the NY Times we thought it would be worth the trip from Manhattan. Our old Suburu had engine problems that no other mechanic could diagnose properly; we also had a slipping transmission. The attention Mitchell gave to examining the car was exceptional. He did it with us, putting it up on the lift, showing us what he was checking, and the problems he had found. Then he took the car for a test drive with us. He gave us a detailed estimate for the work required on the engine, and then suggested we have the transmission checked out at Globe Transmission across the street first. Because, if the transmission were too expensive, we might not want to invest further in the car. This was indeed the case. So we did not have any work done and Mitchell did not charge us anything. We found Mitchell to be an honest and caring person who treated us as a friend. We recommend him wholeheartedly. Richard Newman, Manhattan October, 2011 more

Excellent 7/5/2011

There are plenty of shops near where I live but none my neighbors would recommend. I've never used citysearch for anything mechanical because i prefer word of mouth but I had neglected to get a tune up on my 2001 ford explorer sport for some time and was planning a trip to Maine, so I took a chance on what the reviewers were saying. I don't drive much but when I did I noticed the car was using quite a bit of gas, didn't have the power I remembered and if i hit a pothole or bump the car would lose stability, jerking the steering. Not good for a semi-long drive. I made an appt with Mitchell and brought the car in. He was straight forward, honest and took care of the stability problem, front left ball joint. All the parts were kept so I could see them, He didn't try and sell me ANYTHING I didn't need, the price was very reasonable, and most importantly-the car ran fantastic! He earns his rating. Excellent job. more

It is worth the trip from anywhere in Brooklyn. 4/18/2011

Mitchell is no joke the nicest / most honest car mechanic on the face of the earth. This is the first review I ever wrote for anything. I brought my car into Mitchell because of the postings I read here and my experience was better than what I expected. It is worth the trip from anywhere in Brooklyn. I had an issue where my car was over - heating and someone else on Coney Island Ave. told me that it was going to be an expensive job, Mitchell had it fixed and ready to go for something like 50 bucks (may have been a little more, can't remember). Turned out it was the thermometer and not the more expensive job. He explains every detail of what he does and walks you through the whole process so you're not feeling like you were schemed by a crook. Go see him and write him a nice review after you do! more

The best brooklyn repair shop!!! A++++ 4/3/2011

If you are looking for honest and expert service, then you dont have to look any further than Mitchell. I spent a month at 3 different shops who could not figure out the problem with my jeep. Each of them recommending over $1,000 in repairs for what wasnt even the correct solution. One day in Mitchell's shop and for less than half of what any of those shops wanted, he fixed my car perfectly. If you need a mechanic that you can trust 1000% to fix your car and to treat you honestly, then this is the shop for you. There is a reason he comes up at the top of the list when you google best brooklyn auto repair shops. he lived up to his reputation! more
