Best

My wife and I who are both gluten intolerant were very pleased to find a gluten free bun option available at Edgefield! Good Job McMenamins! Thank YOU!

Worst

The grounds rock, the art is fantastic, the beers are up to standards with other mediocre micro-breweries... however:\r \r What does it take to get a HAPPY, speedy wait person o...

Like Staying in a Dungeon? 10/2/2003

This is what you get at McMenamin's for $90 a night: no TV, no toilet in your room, no shower in your room and no air conditioning. Basically, you there are no amenities...two of the longest days of my life were spent there for a friend's wedding...never again! more

mysterious edgefield 9/20/2003

A couple friends and i were walking down a hall one evening when the lights flickered and the hall went black. It became cold. We were each asking who turned off the lights to scare us. The lights suddenly turned back on and the chill seemed to evaporate. Downstairs people said the lights hadn't flickered at all. That is only my personal experience, but a friend of mine who works there has many more stories like that. great food, great service and a good time can be had there. Pros: rich look and feel, nice restaurants Cons: very haunted more

A hidden Gem outside of the City 7/13/2003

Like I said in the tittle it is a Gem. You must see it for yourself. But be prepared to bring your walking shoes. Walking among the beauitful grounds is a must. Then seeing all of the out buldings i.e.(pub, Powerhouse Station.) Also it is roomy enough for large weddings. Pros: Artwork in hotel, Drinks Cons: Gift shop was pricey, Dinning room is small more

Eclectic and Wonderful 3/5/2003

I went to the Edgefield after hearing about it several times from a friend. It was wonderful. I paid extra for a room with a private bath and 2 half hour massages - and it was worth every penny. The wine tasting was fantastic, and breakfast was quite good. It was fun to explore the grounds and learn about the history of the property. The customer service was unmatched. Pros: Good Value, good beer & wine, great service more

Home Away From Home 1/10/2003

Don't go there expecting a glitzy 5-star hotel experience, because you'll be disappointed and humbled very quickly. But if you go there with a sense of curiosity and relaxation, you'll be adequately rewarded with a small haven on a budget. The word ambience is the key here, as the atmosphere is inviting and laid back, food down to earth, brewskis galore, and rooms egalitarian. An excellent place to get away on a budget and still not feel cheaped by the experience. Pros: Ambience, variety, service Cons: frugal more

A Vacation Away From Home 9/18/2002

Edgefield is only 15 minutes from Portland, but once you're there, it feels like a vacation away from home. The Black Rabbit restaurant uses most of the herbs and vegetables from their organic garden on the property and has some excellent dinners. The pub golf course is the most fun golfing experience I've ever had, but be warned, although it is short and easy, bring extra golf balls. The Little Red Shed is a great place to talk and have a brew, while the winery is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a nice bottle of wine. Also on campus is a movie theater, a pub, a glass works shop, and the hotel itself. The best bargain I have ever found is their Hammer Head package. From Sun - Thursday, lodging, dinner, beers, and breakfast for two is only $109 dollars. Check it out for a quick, close vacation... Pros: Relaxing, Unique, Fun more

great wine tasting 7/31/2002

This is a great place to go with a large group for wine tasting. My friends and I were all treated very well, and it is really inexpensive. The server was kind a very knowledgeable. If you have a little too much to drink, the restaurants are great, and I love the rooms as well. The artwork on the walls is fabulous. more
