Ladies Night at Match 4/29/2010

Since tonight is Ladies Night at MATCH - and their entrees are $5 - two of my friends and I decided to go for dinner. I've been to Ladies Night two other times and I must say those other times were much better than tonight. I ordered the filet mignon and a glass of merlot which is usually a delicious combo, but my steak was overdone/dry so it wasn't as enjoyable as it should have been. I guess the food might be hit or miss, but for $5 I'm not gonna do too much complaining... The atmosphere here is young, fun and lively! My only other complaint is that the women on staff there all where shirts + no pants which to me, is relatively ridiculous. I mean I guess they are trying to pass these 'shirts' off as 'dresses' but let's get real, they're shirts. I don't need to see your vajayjay during dinner. I'm not enjoying the free buffet at the strip club - I'm at a nice restaurant in the Back Bay, all I'm asking is that you dress appropriately. I was just looking for my $5 entree not $5 for some T and A. Also, it gets pretty packed there on Thursday nights, so the earlier the better or else you could be in for an hour or so wait! Overall, pretty good place. Definitely worth checking out - especially on Thursday nights! Pros: Entrees are $5 for ladies on Thursdays! Cons: Long wait if you get there late... more

nice place but the management is tremendously horrible 5/23/2008

I was in today and saw nothing out of the ordinary. two manager not doing anything at all. Why is that? These managers cant control there staff and at the same time I feel that im trying to talk over them. I was sitting by the booth closest to the window and I heard everything you could possibly hear. My dinner was great but after listening to there conversation the entire time I was there i felt sick to my stomach. Word od advice retrain managers or just get rid of them. I dine there a lot and you know nothing ik keeping me to return.Rather it s loud or rather service is horrible. As well as the food the spicy shrimp, and roasted chicken was great. Pros: The food is Great Cons: poor management in front of house more

great service / great drinks 5/7/2008

Went to Match last night. We sat at the bar and had a few mini-burgers and a couple of martinis. The lamb burger and lobster burger were fantastic, and the pop culture and the espresso martinis were also delicious. The service was great! Our bartender was delightful. We will be back. more

Glass in my food and the worst service ever - HORRIBLE!!!! 5/1/2008

I dined at MATCH on Mass. Ave tonight (5/1/08) with a friend of mine. The service was awful, it took 10 minutes to find our waitress and ask for a refill for our diet cokes which took another 10 minutes to come. When the food came, in my calamari was a triangular piece of very sharp glass that I nearly choked on while chewing my food. Luckily it did not cut me, but when I reported this to the manager they offered me more food! I wouldn't want to risk more glass, who knows where the rest of it is in the kitchen! What sort of restaurant has broken glass in the food they serve? I have worked in several upscale restaurants around Boston over the years and this situation was not only unacceptable but it could also be grounds for serious action, considering the risk to me and other patrons, but it was poorly handled by the staff.\r \r This could have ended very badly for me, but luckily I regurgitated it. My friend stopped eating her food out of concern, and the manager offered me something so I just had a glass of wine. The waitress then came over and asked if she could get me anything else? No thank you. Neither of them seemed very concerned by this. Then she immediately proceeded to serve us with the BILL for my friends meal!! I was infuriated. We were asked to PAY for this experience? I will NEVER return to Match and I think that the restaurant kitchen should be inspected - someone else could have choked on glass! On my way out the manager told me to have a nice night... and that was it! Eat at your own risk at MATCH! Pros: A good way to diet since the food is dangerous to eat Cons: Chance possibly getting cut by broken glass in your food more

The best place in Boston 4/28/2008

Match has the best food deals in Boston. It's a great, cozzy place that will make you want to spend all night there. You have to try the shrimp appertizer and the cookie dough dessert! Great prices for wine bottles too, they've a amazing Chilean chardonay or riesling (I don't remember, but it was really good). Pros: Food price, Great ambience and service Cons: Its almost impossible to find a parking space around there and the Valet is kind'f expensive more

super pricey for burgers (mini ones too) 4/12/2008

my girl friend and i together had a one-person portion meal (1 martini, 1 lobster bisque, 3 mini burgers, 1 dessert), and that cost us $50! and we were not even full (obviously).\r \r drink was great though, as well as ambiance w/the lengthy fire place and all. good place for dates, we concluded. too bad we weren't dating.\r :) \r Pros: super nice ambiance Cons: super pricey more

Terrible Customer Service 2/12/2008

We were really looking forward to our family gathering at Match but it didn?t go as well as expected. My husband found the restaurant online and called to make a reservation to accommodate 16 people. He was told that they couldn?t accommodate 16 people in the dining room, but they had a ?big booth? in the lounge area and a standing area near it with plenty of counter space, enough for our party. We asked about reserving other booths in the lounge area so everyone could sit down, and were told, that they didn?t reserve the other booths, but we could come early as the area is first come first serve. So my husband and I took a trip to the restaurant to ?Check out the space.? The night we visited, there happen to be reserved signs on the large booth and another booth right next to it. When I asked the hostess about this, she told me it was reserved for a large party. When I told her about my reservation in a couple weeks, and how we were told we could only reserve the one booth, she got nervous and agreed to reserve the other booth for us as well. I should have known right then that the people managing this place had a bad seating policy, but we still went on with our plans. The night finally arrived and we went to the restaurant, they did not reserve the second booth for us as promised. Then when one of the other booths became available and members from my party sat down, they were kicked out by the hostess, who told them that the booth was reserved! Two women sat down in the booth, and when I asked them if they had reservations, they replied, ?No we just walked in the door.? My husband was very upset and got no results after speaking with the manager, he asked for our drink check and we left the restaurant, never eating a single bite. We were really looking forward to this family dining experience at Match but what we really got was burnt. more

Tasty sliders and delicious booze! 11/20/2007

My wife and I are new to the area and were fearful of falling into a touristy-type trap but liked the look of this place and wanted to give it a shot. We showed up at 8:30 on a Saturday night and were told we'd have an hour and a half wait- we debated but since we had nothing better to do we decided to tough it out and we are so happy we did. \r \r The wait was everything they said it would be but we passed the time trying their delicious martini cocktails (our faves were East Meets West and The Bloody Mary one). The sliders were quite tasty too though not AMAZING and to be honest, the lobster one wasn't anything special. That said, our waitress Katie was a pleasure and everyone seemed pretty cool once we got past the initial shock of an hour plus wait time- what else did we expect on a Saturday night in Back Bay though, right?\r \r The portions were reasonable, the prices about right for said portion sizes, and the variety of drinks and clever presentations of those drinks made this a place that we'll be coming back to fo sho. If they put a White Castle in the base of a Ritz Carlton this is what it would be like~ Pros: Various cleverly presented martinis Cons: Finding an area to call our own for the hour + wait to get a table more

Great food !!! 8/16/2007

My husband and I have eaten at Match a few times in the past year; last time right before a Sox game. We've been impressed each time. The food is delicious and poses a great and reasonable alternative to some of the pricier restaurants in Boston. Our favorites are the fried calamari with plum sauce, the filet mignon and the salmon entrees, and, of course, the pan seared chocolate chip cookie dough:) The drinks are a bit pricey for our taste but we are on Newbury Street. Our server was really friendly and attentive, and the restaurant has a trendy and cozy feel to it ( I love the fireplace). We hope to be back soon:)\r \r ~SB Pros: Cookie dough :) Calamari, fireplace, servers Cons: parking can be tough in the area more

bben there so many times and unpleases agin 5/25/2007

Well i had a alright experience there for my third time and it has been upsetting for me. I dont know how to explain this but theres acouple of girls there that i was not pleased with. It is a problem when you have servers running there fingers throught there hair and at the same time serving food. Thats a number one rule for me. They should at leatst tie it up. Its destroys the whole experience when you find hair in your food like i did tonight. just to point out some tips managers shouldnt be smoking in front of the restaurants at any time. People really look at all this. Tonight when my wife and Iwas there i was offended because i heard servers talking about how bad these people are tipping us ( referred to guest as a__ holes) Wow! Just because they are looking like sluts doesnt mean they can have my dollar. A good point the food was so delicious and i would think about coming back. Its time for new management because i feel that the guy thats there now is horrible i didnt see him on the floor all night and that tall skinny young lady where is she . I was glad she wasnt there to stare me down and undigest my food because it was so great. i have so much i wanna say but again it needs to satrt with management. This restaurant needs a firm strict manager like a chef who isnt afraid to discipline there staff because as I see its not being done . Pros: ambiance Cons: servers serving food while playing in hair more

Yummie Food, Cute And Cozy 3/13/2007

I went to Match on Sunday with a friend of mine and had a really nice meal.\r The atmosphere is really great, with dim lighting and lounge music.\r We had the mushroom pizza which was fabulous and they have a great Martini list as well.\r The service was friendly and fast. Definitely a place I will return to in the future.\r Pros: Ambience, Fireplace, Reasonable Prices Cons: Crowded on Weekends more

I really loved it!! 3/7/2007

I really had a great time at Match. I went a long time ago when they first opened then kind of forgot they were there. I went with a bunch of friends on Saturday and, while we did have to wait a long time (45 minutes) for a table, once we sat we had a blast. The food was wonderful (the filet is the best I've ever had!!) my friends loved their burgers and the martinis left us feeling very very happy... Our server was fantastic too! She was very pretty, but still personable, expedient and professional. No complaints!! I love Match and am making it a point to go more often. It is defintely one of my favorite spots for drinks and a bite. Pros: beautiful waitstaff, decor, ambiance Cons: a little noisy, long wait for table more

Horrible Service! 3/6/2007

Upon arriving there we were told there was a 45 min wait. We ended up waiting 2 hours!! When they finally sat us they put 5 of us at a 4 person table (2 people had to share a side) by the door. Once seated another customer put his empty drink on our table on his way out. 25 mins later a waitress finally came to the table to take our drink order. From there everything just kept going wrong.\r \r The food was ok, but honestly really not that good. The lobster meat in the lobster burger tasted fishy and not so fresh, the hamburger was just ok. \r \r Overall a very good concept, but they can't seam to pull it together. They may want to think about highering more experienced waitstaff and a mgr that is going to pay attention to the horrible service. Pros: atmosphere Cons: service, food more

pretentious 11/22/2006

I keep giving this place one more try, thinking that I was too quick to judge or maybe the last couple of times I went were just bad nights. But, I've finally given up. I really do not enjoy myself at this bar. The setting is great, but the people are pretentious, and it is nearly impossible to get the bartender's attention to order a drink. I will not be returning. more

Great for drinks and a mini-meal 11/17/2006

Great bar area and fantastic drink menu. Food menu is somewhat limited, especially in the appetizer area. But the food was very good. Just keep in mind that the burgers are mini and the price reflects the price for one burger. more

Super trendy with good food. 10/19/2006

I love the atmosphere here. Definitely fits in an episode of Sexin the City, ultra trendy, great food, with a Manhattan feel. The menu is unique and the portions are just right. The bar area is packed with singles, but it's a little loud for any real conversation, so it's maybe not the est 1st date spot. Impressive, fun, worth a try. Boasts a hot staff in Hugo Boss designer outfits. The only restaurant that I've seen waitresses in short, slinky, dresses. Pros: hot staff, good food, cool atmosphere and music. more

A little bit of NYC in Boston 10/13/2006

Match is a fun bar with a fantastic restaurant. The food is always good. I have one complaint. For such an upscale restaurant, why did the waiter remove my dirty knife from my appetizer plate and place it back down on the table so I could use it again for the main?? I mean, come on! Surely a place trying so hard to be hip can spare a clean knife with the main course! more

I love match 5/14/2006

I went to Match last Sat. night and then again Tuesday night. I sat at the bar both times and thought it was awsome. I ate some apps, and had great drinks! Didn't have to wait long and didn't expect the bartender to spend a ton of time with me but she was friendly. I'll be there a lot Pros: bartender more
