Consistent, unconventionally good 2/17/2006

I love this place. Really, I look forward to it almost every other morning. I started with a ginger banana muffin, that was moist, had many mild flavors, but nothing too sugury or greasy. Wow, finally a pastry that isn't all slimey with oils and sticky with too much sugar. Gotta love it! I have also tried their morning roll, their artisian breads and rolls. All great. Their coffee is also good. I believe they use the Organic Blend from Vita. This morning the ginger muffin had less cinnamon flavor, but more banana flavor -- gotta love small batch bakeries. The staff is fairly helpful too. Even when busy, they always offer up assistance, and take great care at handling the beautiful items. Oh, the other week I grabbed a Lemon Tart cake for my work friends. Once on the table, no one wanted to eat the masterpiece. Of course, they dove in and within 5 minutes most of the Tart was gone. Perfectly lemony filling, firm, buttery crust, white chocolate slivers in places, along with 2 pieces of fresh fruit -- perfect! more

It's the best 2/10/2006

I recently moved into the neighborhood and cannot say enough about Macrina. I had their typical stuff at local cafes, however the variety and quality at this location is amazing. The morning glory muffin was perfect- warm with intense flavors and excellent consistency. I've tried a couple of their savory items, which were also excellent. I'm looking forward to trying breakfast on the weekends. Its the perfect alternative to Starbucks, especially if you want your food to actually be fresh and have flavor. Plus, you can't beat that they have new/different items everyday, no the normal run of the mill Costco-esque type stuff. more

Great Meeting Spot 12/26/2005

This Macrina Bakery location is a bit off the beaten path, making it the perfect spot to grab a cup of coffee and pastry on Queen Anne. The baked items are unquestionably some of the best in town - often sold out by afternoon, though. They also offer a great selection of salads and sandwiches. Their coffee beverages are consistently good. The staff is friendly and helpful and seem to enjoy working there - no surly baristas here. The atmosphere is casual and warm - the perfect place to idle away a morning! more

Macrina bakery and cafe is a perfect little neighborhood cafe. I love sitting here sipping a latte or trying the salad and soup of the day. And you will definitely be the hero of the party if you bring a cake from Macrinas. more
