definitely go to luba's - it is a real gem! the place is family-owned which makes for a comfortable atmosphere. arthur listens to your preferences, asks questions, and then proceeds to create a masterpiece. there are several salons in my trendy area of manhattan but this place is worth the walk. i am looking forward to next visit which will be soon!! Great Hair Stylist 12/3/2006

I was visiting NY and saw the reviews for this salon. They were all that and more. I am very picky when it comes to my long thick hair. I had my appt with Luba but was late due to traffic. They still fit me in. Luba started on me and then when her next appt showed up she asked if I minded if Arthur finished it. He was her son and she had trained him. I did not - he listened very well and did a GREAT job. My only complaint - they are over 3000 miles from where I live and now I am completely spoiled for our local salons!! Great color 11/30/2006

Went to Luba's yesterday for my first time and it wont be the last. After trying several stylists in NY and queens, Arthur gave me the exact shade of blonde I wanted. Didnt even have to bring in a picture from one of those hair magazines. He gave me his full attention for 3 hours and he didnt rush. No customer juggling!!He spent atleast 15 mintues going over what I wanted (even after being 35 mintues late)and didnt try to sell me anything more. The color he uses didnt dry out my hair either. Prices were extremely reasonable too not to mention the customer service and coffee. Hey Arthur..hope youll still be able to fit me into your appointment book when youre big and famous :-) Luba's is NY's best kept secret amidst all those other big name NYC hair salons. Halloween TREAT!! 10/31/2006

I had an appointment to see Arthur on Halloween (looking pretty scary with my hair in a ponytail I might add) and came out just thrilled with the cut he gave me. Without much instruction other than ""keep it on the long side, but please do SOMETHING with it because it's driving me nuts!,"" Arthur went to work and soon thereafter, I had the best cut I've had in years. Best service and high professionalism! 5/9/2006

I had my b-day party and I was so busy with preparation thst forgot to make an appointment for my hair. Lubas stylist Arthur agreed to take me without an appointment and worked with me until 11pm until he finished with my hair. I was very appreciated for Lubas flexibility and high professionalism. My hair looked beautiful and I looked great at my party! I highly recommend Lubas to anyone who cares about their look and perfect service! more

Loved it!!! 8/24/2005

This was my first haircut experience in NYC; I was always a little intimidated by the salons here (and especially their prices!). Luba's had gotten wonderful reviews on citysearch, so I decided to try them out. I was not disappointed at all!!! The atmosphere is very relaxed. And Arthur, who cut my hair, gave me probably the best haircut I've ever gotten! He was so friendly, and took as much time as necessary to get my hair just right (which ended up being an hour and a half for a cut and blow dry). And it was very reasonably priced! The Best Place to go in NYC 7/2/2005

I love this salon! The first time I went there, I was having color correction done (from a bad salon I had gone to in NJ). Arthur, the stylist I had, was awesome and didn't rush the process even though I couldn't get there until close to closing. I ended up keeping him there for over 2 hours after closing (I have long hair and it needed a lot of correction), but he never once made me feel unwelcome. I have since gone back two more times to have my hair cut and a few highlights put in and every time I leave, I feel so pretty! I request Arthur each time and he is honest with me about my hair (what will look good and what won't) - I trust him 100%. I would definitely recommend him and this place to everyone!!! This was my first visit to NYC and Luba's helped make the trip that much more enjoyable. I happened to come across Luba's on CitySearch and I am glad that I did. Japanese Hair Straightening By Bioionic 2/28/2005

Stanley was great!! I've tried for years other treatments and procedures that never seemed to work for the long term. My hair is (was) very curly about mid back length. A friend had recommended Luba's Salon who has her hair cut by Luba herself. She mentioned about there success in Japanese Hair Straightening and that I go for a consultation with Frank or Stanley (brothers) about this. Let me tell you it was a great experience with no pressure and explained in such detail to understand step by step. It's been seven and a half months and still looking great. Getting my hair done at lubas salon was the best choice I have ever made. Stan knew exactly what I wanted. He gave me a beautiful haircut, added some highlights and did a terrific job at straightning my hair. Now whenever I need my hair done I know where to go. What Can I Say!!!!! 11/20/2004

I first found Luba's in a book at my hotel and I loved the change she made with my hair. This was the first time I walked out of a salon really liking how my hair looked. I simply cannot fix my own hair and Luba patiently put the dryer and brush in my hands and showed me how to do it myself. ""Hairstyling 101"" she called it. And I passed. I live in Colorado and make it in to NY several times a year for business. First thing I do is make an appointment for a cut. More expensive than Colorado, but boy is it worth it!!! Perfection 10/18/2004

Don't think twice about it. Just go! Every haircut I receive from Arthur is like the three-days-before-my-wedding haircut. He takes his time and makes sure that every single hair on my head is perfect and the overall cut looks great. I come in from NJ just to get my haircut here because I cannot the attention to detail that I get from Arthur at this salon anywhere else. I would highly recommend this salon. I had found it on Citysearch because it was highly recommended, and the reviews were right. Everyone there was very nice. Arthur gave me a great haircut and gave me a great haircut. I came in without and appointment and they still made time for me. I would definetly suggest getting your hair done here, and I will gladly go back. The price was very reasonable for NYC too. The atmosphere is friendly and laid back. more

Excellent 9/11/2004

I've been looking for a great place to get a good haircut, and saw ads for Luba's on Citysearch so I decided to go. I couldn't have been happier! Stanley was attentive; he listened to me, asked me questions about lifestyle and what I wanted in a hair style, offered suggestions, and waited paitently until I gave the OK. Great color, great cut, great staff. 8/26/2004

What more do you want? Coffee? Ok, that too. Ive been to many NY salons, but this is the only one Ive recommended. The appointment was on time (!), the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. Colorist/stylist Arthur is very sweet, very attentive. He understood what I did and - maybe more important - did not want, offered his opinion (add lowlights), and gave me a look that even a dear friend with a critical eye approves of. So whats lacking? Uptown prices and attitude. The place is modest, but the customer service is superb. You owe yourself a visit to Lubas - I doubt youll be disappointed. Im definitely going back. Highly recommended!!!!! 8/18/2004

I just got my haircut at Luba's and it is the BEST haircut and blowdry I have ever had! I LOVE my hair now. I have been going to the same stylist for about 2 years now and was in a hair rut. I wanted something new and different and chic. Stanley is a genius with hair. He knew exactly what I wanted even though I couldn't articulate it very well. I'm planning on moving to California soon but I will definitely be back to get my haircut periodically. I can't wait to go back for highlights next month. It's definitely worth coming back. Great Welcoming Salon 7/16/2004

I heard about Luba's through a friend who found great reviews on Citysearch. After checking out the reviews (and having a recommendation from my friend), I decided to get a haircut with Stanley. I was defintely not dissapointed. Stanley took time with my hair and didn't rush through the cut. He did exactly what I wanted and I'll definitely be back. Both brothers seem great (Luba wasn't there when I went). For $30 for a guys haircut, Luba's Salon can't be beat! Pros: great stylists, inexpensive, friendly more

I just had my hair cut at Luba's and the experience was a real treat. The salon has terrific atmosphere-- clean, friendly, and welcoming. I have short hair that is a bit difficult to cut well, and Arthur, the gentleman who styled my hair, spent a good deal of time talking with me prior to cutting a single hair. What's more, he actually listened to what I liked and didn't like about the cut I had prior to coming to Luba's, and then was able to follow through with a wonderful style! Kudos to this salon.
