I have searched long and hard for the best colorist & finally found him - Arthur at Luba Salon is the best ever! I have gone to famous colorist, traveled hours to find the one who would give me the color I wanted with consistent results. My highlights would always tend to get bleached out to the point where I lost my natural low lights & anytime low lights were put in, they appeared washed out within 2 weeks... until I finally found Arthur! He takes the time to use the right color and to pick the perfect strands to highlight so that I still had my beautiful natural low lights, each and every time. I have been going to him for a few years now which is a record for me... I intentionally waited to write the review, even though I was thrilled in the beginning, the true test for me was to be just as happy, actually happier than when I first went to him. From the moment I walked up the stairs to this great little salon, the experience was top notch! Arthur took his time to listen to what I was looking for, and made it clear that his goal was to make me happy and feel beautiful! I first found Luba's Salon by accident after I was coming out of the Equinox gym on 63rd street and Lexington Avenue. I needed a quick blow dry, and my usual place was booked. I noticed a sign for Luba's Salon and decided to try it, so I walked up to the salon which is located on the second floor. There I was greeted by a very nice stylist named Arthur. After a wonderful head massage and hair wash, I was treated to one of the best blow outs that I have ever had and have been coming weekly ever since 2005. Luba's Salon is a family business which is what makes this place so special. However, the real secret to Luba's Salon is Arthur Lak. Arthur is an extremely talented stylist who is also very kind and patient. He truly wants to make his clients happy and makes sure that all his clients leave the salon looking and feeling beautiful. Arthur is very good at cutting and styling and really does one of the best blow outs in New York City. Luba's salon has some wonderful treatments as well. I especially love the Deep Conditioning Moroccan Oil Treatment which includes an incredible head massage. Over the years I have been to many of New York's top salons but nobody blows my hair like Arthur! I always leave the salon looking and feeling great. I am from Gibraltar and lived in NY for 2 years. During my stay here I read a couple of beauty magazines and came across Louis Licari Hairdressing salon and much to my disappointment it wasn't as amazing as magazines described. A friend of mine then recommended Luba's Salon so I arranged an appointment. It was the best thing I did, not only because of their professionalism and the way they did my highlights and cut so perfectly but also for the wonderful way in which they treat their customers and make them feel very welcome and relaxed. I've been back in Gibraltar since 2003 and no-one has ever done my hair as amazingly as they did. They should open Luba's salon around the world!!! Arthur knows blond - dark blond, light blond, anything in between. I have been going to this salon for over 10 years and continue to be thrilled with the color, regardless of whether I want to go darker or lighter. more

Prior to this experience, I remember complaining about my hair to my friend Sarah, who also lived a few blocks away from Luba Salon, about how brassy my blond hair had become from a botched color job earlier. She promised to walk with me in the neighborhood until we found someone who would make it better, thinking I had already tried a good number of great salons -- why not walk around? We stopped in two or three places -- all were afraid to do anything with my hair to fix it (probably knowing it would be worse because they didn't really know how to fix it). She and I came across Arthur, asked him what he would do if he were me, and he gave his honest opinion. I ended up walking out with some great halo highlights and a much better attitude about my looks and Sarah ended up walking out with a haircut (even though her long locks were afraid of being cut too much, he was able to give her exactly the look she wanted -- haircut showing more length than before). All in all, we couldn't ask for a more talented stylist who really understands what you are asking for. I have finally found reasonably priced hairstyles with no complications and great results. I lived in NYC for 6 years and for the first few years before I found Arthur, I was going to one salon after another paying a lot of $ for a haircut and always leaving disappointed. I have long, straight, fine hair and not many people know how to cut it in a way to keep its shape, volume, etc. What usually happened is that 99% of the hairstylists tried to convince me that I need to cut my hair short - and that's the only way that my hair would look good. Well, let's just say that after meeting Arthur, I knew that they were lying - they were just saying that because they themselves either didn't know how to do it or didn't want to take the time to listen to what I wanted. What I found in Arthur is a hairstylist who not only listens to what I want, but someone who will also be very honest with me with his expertise if he feels that I'm way off. Time after time, I always left his salon feeling beautiful and always received countless compliments on my hair...which never used to happen! After 2 years of having become spoiled by Arthur's haircuts, I have recently moved to VA...and after 6 months, I decided that I'll just make quarterly visits to NYC and get my hair cut! I visited NY on business and needed a haircut while there. I made an appt with Luba but was late for my appt. They were very understanding and Arthur did my hair. He did a great job! Now, I am spoiled by him and can't find another stylist that did my hair like him! I have long hair (mid back) and when he did my hair I never had to do anything with it - once it was dry it looked great with the layers he put in. Now, I am always having to style it or dry it to get the look I want. I am actually contemplating flying back for the weekend to just get my hair cut! Also, the cost of the cut was very affordable. I've been going to Luba Salon for about 4 years now and would never think of going anywhere else to have my hair done. The first time I went, Luba cut my hair and did a great job. I have rather unruly hair and never had good luck with other stylists. Luba listened to my concerns, suggested some things to me, and we agreed on a new style, which looked great! I have gone back ever since and always have had a great experience. This year Arthur has been taking care of my hair, and he has done a wonderful job too! You cannot go wrong here. Both Luba and Arthur are highly skilled professionals. They really listen to you and do what you want - but also can suggest new looks if you want to experiment. I have never had to ""re-do"" my hair after leaving (which was the case with the other places I've used before, from NYC to London). Luba and Arthur are both warm and friendly and make the whole experience relaxing and fun. If you're unhappy with your current salon, you must try Luba's! If you like your current salon, go to Luba's anyway - you'll love it! And, for NYC, the prices are really reasonable. Go to this salon! Since my first visit with Arthur several years ago, I have never even thought of letting anyone else touch my hair. Even when I lived quite far away for a couple years, I still traveled back regularly to have him do my hair. As my natural color has changed, Arthur has been able to adapt to always make it look naturally blonde, which is great. And his cuts have gotten better and better over the years. I've completely stopped telling him what I think I want and simply let him do whatever he thinks is going to look best. And he's never done anything less than amazing! I booked an appointment with Arthur after reading reviews here, and was not disappointed. Arthue gave me exactly what I wanted and yet added his own touch to my hair!! I have thick, dark, medium long hair, and I was nervous about getting a cut because I am growing my hair. Arthur listened to me and gave me one of the best haircuts I have had!! And that too without chopping off a big chunk like every other (upscale) salon. Arthur's down-to-earth nature and the salon's reasonable prices are icing on cake! This is the second time that I have gone to Luba's Salon. After the first time I knew that I couldn't go anywhere else. Arthur and Stanley are great. They make sure you get what you want and that you are completely satisfied. They make the perfect team and you won't be bored because of the friendly and comfortable atmosphere they create. Great Cut & Color, no question! However, it set me back about $450 and 4 1/2 hours in the chair bored, hungry & very little hospitality (one cold cup of coffee). Arthur does a terrific job.
