Best

I came here while visiting family in Philly. Had a wonderful dinner. Started out with yummy bread and pesto-ish dipping sauce. YUM. The (huge) scallop appetizers were yummy! ...

Worst

Sure, little fish, little space, little portions, little flavor. $8.25 Mussel bisque turned out to be 5 mussles in a small amount of bland, watery sauce. The $9 small plate of bra...

poor service? how 'bout: poor customers... 6/13/2005

what the reviewer of "poor service..." neglected to mention is that the party of 13 (half of the restaurant's seating) was an hour late for their reservation! i was dining in the restaurant that evening and witnessed the staff working hard to accommodate the large party - despite the interrupted planning for that evening's service. Little Fish has been one of our favorites for many years and we respect that the small staff and quaint space requires a bit of planning. The food continues to be fantastic and worth a little slack from the Zagat's reported "chef with an attitude"! Pros: food, quaint, knowledgeable servers Cons: late customers! more

No frills, just great seafood 4/27/2005

This tiny neighborhood BYOB is the best in the city. It's not the place to go if you want to be with 30 of your closest friends, but that's a good thing if you ask me. It only seats 20 people max. Why anyone would try to go with more than a few is beyond me. Anyway, take a date or a few close friends, grab your favorite bottle of wine and prepare for the freshest catch in the city. The menu literally depends on that days fishing. If you call around noon they might know a few things on the menu, but sometimes it changes at the last minute. And everything is prepared perfectly. Pros: Seafood, Price, BYOB more

Poor Service Destroyed the Meal 3/20/2005

We made our reservation 3 weeks in advance for 13 people. One hour and 45 min. into the meal, the chef approached our party, before dessert had even been served and asked that we eat our dessert quickly and leave as the next party was waiting outside for our table. Fifteen minutes later he kicked us out. We mentioned that we were upset with the way he was treating us and he responded that he didn't care how we felt or who we told. Any restaurant that I have frequented would have allowed at least 3 hours for a party 13 or at least waited until we had received our dessert to move us along. It was a ridiculous situation that should have been avoided. I would highly recommend going elsewhere! more

Little Fish Will Stay Small in Big Ocean 2/16/2004

Far from quaint and charming, Little Fish is cramped and lifeless. Ten tables are served by one overworked waitress, and the inability to provide alcoholic beverages and its cash-only policy make it inconvenient. All of this could be easily forgotten if there were tremendous and flavorful dishes. But the appetizers of one Sunday prix-fixe meal - scallops au gratin, crab cakes with avocado and watercress salad - are mediocre. The monkfish stew was just plain bland, despite fresh ingredients. And beware! An 8 oz. bottle of soda and cup of coffee cost an astonishing $5.00. Silly. Pros: Off the beaten path. more

Excellent BYOB 1/22/2004

This has long been my favorite seafood restaurant in the city. All of my meals have been great -very fresh and interesting food. The menu mildly changes each time we go, also something to look forward to. The restaurant is very cosy - I think under 10 tables, with friendly service. While we have gotten seated just walking in, reservations are so key. For dessert, try the chocolate pot du creme! Pros: Fresh fish, Decent parking more

YUMMM 7/28/2003

Little Fish provided me with the best meal I've had in a long time! In this city of excellent restaurants, Little Fish is definitely a strong contender. The food, ambiance, and service was excellent. I would definitely go back... and I recommend trying their dessert! It's also very romantic. Pros: food, service, ambiance more

Hook, line and sinker! 10/28/2002

Much like the tastefully tantalizing seafood they serve, this cozy little restaurant has us hooked; line and sinker. Very friendly service and a chef that's not afraid to bring your delicious food personally, makes this restaurant a trophy catch. Pros: food, friendly, fast service Cons: small more

life is short-Eat out! 7/24/2002

I 've been a waiteress in 5 star hotels for 20 years, and on my days off,I rarely cook. I will not give repeat business to restaurants who lack excellent, friendly service and delicious food(hard to find-I hate phonies!) Life is too short to not enjoy yourself. Little fish has always been a favorite of mine-they work hard, they are stressed but still have a great sense of humor, and the food is-on every occassion I've been there, divine! (wish they'd expand the bathroom a little, though!) Pros: like live with emeril, close to south st, fantastic food Cons: menu awkward, no reservations, more tables please! more

a wonderful dining experience 5/27/2002

Don't let the exterior deceive you. Inside, it is intimate and homey. You can even ask questions directly to the chef who cooks right beyond a half-wall. The staff was friendly and accomodating, and the seafood was so fresh, you would think they just pulled it from the ocean. The seasoning on all the dishes was superb. One thing: if you like your fish, such as tuna, fully cooked just let the chef know. Must-have appetizer: crab cake. Must-have dessert: bread pudding. We will definitely be going back. Pros: BYOB more

  • In Short
This inviting neighborhood spot delivers fresh, sophisticated seafood takes in a casual, open-kitchen, BYOB setting. Chef/owner John Tiplitz personally delivers bright and healthful twists with creative spins on classic dishes. The menu changes daily, yet many dishes are smoky and sweet thanks to expert pan-searing. Striped Bass, with orzo, clam and corn, littlenecks with fine herbs and shallots, and Greek-style frisee satisfy the eclectic fare.
