We went for sunday brunch and it was CRAZY. The place was crowded and loud and there was hardly anyplace to sit. Our food took forever to get to us so it was cold, and they forgot part of our order. The music, espresso, and people-watching is good, just be comfortable with people sitting really close to you and listening in on your conversation... One word sums up my ongoing experiences at literati cafe...BUZZZZ. the place is seldom without the buzz of good conversation, great faces, pans clanking, espresso foam frothing, and baristas shouting their customers' names to pick up their drink of choice. music is mixed and wonderful...billie holiday and norah jones?? can you ask for better light dinner music??? favorite menu items...eggs florentine and the ""turkey asparagus affair"" sandwich. I really thought the first time I went to the Literati that the BLT was one of the best I'd had. It was a WEEKDAY in the mid day and they weren't slammed. The next time we patronized this joint was on a busy Sunday, and the food was signifcantly less up to par. My recommendation? Stick to a less crowded weekday, and don't park in Ralphs, the whole time I was there I was just stressing my car'd get towed, and that doesn't make for an enjoyable/relaxing experience ;) Pros: Good Food, Nice Ambience Cons: Bad Parking, Inconsistent Food, Snobby Service more

Best Kept Secret 12/31/2002

Literati is really a well-guarded secret - there's simply no place like it in LA. I found this place when I read the LA Times Calendar Sctn and the starlet Constance Marie said she goes there everyday. So I have only been going there for a week - but it's been open for 2 years and I have lived in Brentwood for 28 years - and I can't believe I didn't find it sooner. The organic coffee is great (like the article said) and so is the tuna sandwich and the homemade-daily fresh soups. Music, atmosphere, tranquility, design - ah! what a breath of fresh air! Healthy Comfort Food and hip scene 12/7/2002

I finally checked out Literati after the word-of-mouth buzz had hit crescendo pitch from all my friends. I'm p.o.'ed I didn't check this place out earlier. The food is a perfect combo of health-conscious comfort. The price is right, and the music mix is more eclectic than my own library - which is rare.
