HAPPY VALENTINE'S 2/22/2007

HAPPY VALENTINE'S! EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SO COLD AND WE WERE LATE FOR OUR RESERVATIONS AND WE HAD TO WAIT 20 MINUTES TO BE SEATED, THE OWNERS OF THE PLACE WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND OFFER US A COMPLIMENTARY DRINK AS WE WAITED. THE ENVIROMENT WAS VERY COZY AND ROMANTIC, THE DECORATION ALTHOUGH SIMPLE IS VERY TRENDY AND THE FOOD WAS AT ITS BEST! MY GIRLFRIEND AND I HAD THE BEST VALENTINE'S EVER AND THE CHECK WAS VERY REASONABLE TOTALLY A PLACE I RECOMEND. Pros: GREAT DEAL ON FOOD AND DRINKS Cons: SPICY more

The best cevivhe EVER!!! 2/22/2007

I've flight to Peru few weeks ago and i fell in love with the food over there. Then i came over Lima's Taste, a cozy peruvian restaurant in the west village. At my surprise the food was even better over here than the one i have in the very same country. The enviroment was great, the music was very inviting and the sangria was totally spiritual! I started witha few ceviches, then i tried the lomo saltado and we ended up with a green paella that absolutely fantastic. Simply the best eating experience i ever had. I totally recomended it..bring your friends you wont regreted! Pros: Cozy, friendly enviroment. Really great prices. Cons: Make a reservation is very crowded over the weekends. more

Great Peruvian food!!! 1/3/2007

I was in NY for business and everywhere I go I check out a peruvian restaurant. This place was outstanding. It is located in a real chic, cute part of town. Even though the restaurant is cozy, I think it seats a little over 50 people, it is elegant. I am Peruvian and I think there were mainly non-peruvians there. At 9:30 p.m., when I arrived, it was packed. That is a good sign that the food is good. If you want real authentic, savory peruvian dishes this is where you should go! Pros: Great food Cons: Pricey more

This Peruvian says the food's authentic! 12/13/2006

My family is Peruvian, I've visited the country, cook the food myself, and as a result am very particular about the cuisine. My friend and I started out with the ceviche pescado, which was fabulous and served the appropriate way with yams and ""concha,"" toasted peruvian corn. We then shared a papa rellena which was fantastic, not greasy and full of flavorful meat. We ended the meal with the chicken anticuchos, which are Peruvian Chicken kababs. The chicken and the accompanying sauce were great. My only criticism would be the portions are a bit small for the price. I would definitely go back here. Pros: authentic Peruvian food Cons: price more

I don't really get ceviche, Paella reinvented, 11/14/2006

Maybe my friends are trendsuckers, maybe they really like ceviche? When they came as apetizers I stared at my pals gross display of attacking the dishes like an eskimo harpooning fish in the springtime. I don't get the ceviche thing but in fairness I really don't go for sushi either. It will be intersting to see if ceviche makes a dent in sushi's marketshare. When that part of the meal was over I was relieved. It was time for main courses. And there it was my all tiime favorite dish paella. It was truly one of the better paellas I've ever eaten, and I basically eat paella when ever it's on a menu when I eat out. It had a more dimensional taste then most. It was flavorful without being overwhelmed by spicyness. It also didn't have that dreadful msg synthetic false pop of flavor. I edged my way toward the kitchen and somehow got in a conversation with one of the chefs. After a sincere compliment she broke down and told me the secret (which apearantly isn't a secret). After showing off my new found discovery at the office I was immediately shot down as naive and behind the cullinary curve). The magic ingredient (drumroll please), is for the paella to be cilantro based with Peruvian spices and not safron based. I write about this because I haven't been pleasantly surprised in a long while and want to reach out to other paella lovers who feel that life is becoming mundane. By the way those Pisco Sours are all theyre cracked up to be, especially if you want to be cracked up. Pros: paella, originality, pisco sour Cons: forced to drink pisco sour for half hour late seating more

Most fun restaurant, Best Pisco Sour, Great Music, Most novel food 11/1/2006

Halloween night I wanted to watch the parade remnants at a restaurant with a huge window on Christopher Street. Lima's Taste fit the bill--and it was gorgeous and surreal in design to boot. It was like conquistodors meets Led Zeppelin. You have to see it to understand. Anyways the pisco sours and sangria and the really cool rock set the stage for a really wild night. I have no idea what I ate but it was some of the most absolutely delicious food I've ever eaten. I'm going back not so smashed so I can study Peruvian cuisine with a more tuned eye. It is reer that I have experienced a restaurant this much fun and loose with some of the most novel amazing food. Thank you Lima's Taste for reviving my faith in finding something new and outragous thats quality. See you soon. Pros: You better like a loud drinking restaurant, Food is amazing Cons: You better like a loud drinking restaurant more

Ceviche like South America's, Pisco sours are better then margaritas, Don't bring the kids 11/1/2006

Three years ago I traveled South America and discovered ceviche. I found Lima's Taste on the internet and gave it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised to find it's ceviche authentic and as good as what I had in south America. The Ceviche Tuna was spicy and tasty. My table also ordered the Ceviche Mixto--shrimp, squid, baby octopus and fish--truly delicious and refreshing. We smartly took the waiters advice and orderd with it the chicken causa--a mashed potato ball stuffed with chicken & avacado--and the grilled Cow Heart Anticucho. This was ironic because for a while I could of sworn they were playing Captain Beefheart on the stereo. The place is a little chaotic but the staff rolled wioth it and kept the service at an O.K. level. Two Pisco Sours later the loud crowd sounded like a chorus. The main courses were also fantastic. I had the Frederico Flintstona Ribs--best ribs I've ever eaten in New York. The waiter told me theres a special Peruvian basting sauce heay on ground up peppers that are only grown in Peru. The decor is truly stunning with odd juxtopisitions. A painting of The Last Supper with Jesus and his deciples in Panchos? A Clockwork Orange black & white still in a blue lit bathroom? The never ending parade of hustlers walking up and down Christopher Street? It's not just dinner, it's dinner and a show!! At 11P.M. with my table near the window, it really felt like ""Take a walk on the wild side."" Do to do to do to do to dotodo...... Pros: Food, Pisco Sours, rediculously entertainiong decor Cons: Gawked to much at the weird show on Christopher Street more

! Best Ceviche! 9/18/2006

I took my parents here. I selected this restaurant because I never tasted Ceviche and it had great reviews. I was packed the night we went , but they come quickly with Pisco Sour while we wait, wich was great , it was worth the wait..... The ceviches were outstanding and refreshing Pros: no parking more

Bad, Bad, Bad 9/17/2006

Bad, Bad, Bad. This place loses on every count. The service is terrible and teh food is at best passable if you are starving. We oredred sangria which tasted horrible and our tuna ceviche was fishy. We sent both back. The food was slathered in onions and salt. Our waiter was working alone, totally unfriendly and overwhelmed. Also, no music...no atmoshpere. My prediction closed within 6 months. Cons: service, food, ambiance more

Best Peruvian food anywhere 9/17/2006

My friends and I consider this place to be a kind of tribute to peruvian cuisine anywhere with it's flavorful ceviche bar and delicious main dishes like lomo saltado and picante. The atmosphere along with the customer service was very pleasant we all had a great dining exprience. more

Is this rating fraud or what?! 8/10/2006

Seeing the high rating, my friend and I went past Sunday but it was a disaster! Cons: terrible service more

delicious food all the time 7/21/2006

I can't count the times my wife and I have taken friends over for lunch or dinner. So far there has not been a day where the food wasn't amazing. Many reviews speak of lousy service and an overcrowded room and they are right. I am deeply tempted to comment it directly to the owner who acts as a waiter and host most times. (He is the only white man on the floor). His wife is the chef and the place is ran by a small crew of people. However, the food is one I can't get over and for which I'll always be back. The ceviche is fresh and of good quality. Their shrimp causa and papa rellena are to die for. Their lomo salteado is amazing if you still have any room for food left. Desserts are lacking and that is dissapointing. Their sangria is quite smooth but be careful, they sneak up on you. I've taken Peruvian friends over who said they havent had anything so close to home in years. Pros: Great food Cons: Few servers more

don't bother 7/20/2006

Last month, my boyfriend and I went to Lima's Taste. I heard good things about it so we decided to check it out. Unfortunately, it was horrible from the start. The restaurant was stuffy. The server looked like he'd rather be somewhere else. The CD skipped for an hour before it was changed and then the music was turned up too loud. The server took our order about 20 minutes after we sat. Our appetizer took almost an hour to come out. We lost our appetites by the time the entrees were on our table because they took so long. I'm not sure why there was such a wait, considering that they were prepared half-heartedly and tasted horrible. The only thing I did like about this place was the sangria. And as much as I love my sangria, it's not enough to make me go back there ever again. Pros: good sangria and mussels (appetizer) Cons: everything else more

Highly recommend 7/19/2006

I arrived to Lima's taste last weekend with out-of-town family and a friend who had lived in south america, and all were impressed by both meal quality and presentation. The ceviche was especially excellent- most notably the spicy tuna and the mixto appetizers- and the escaviche and lamb stew entrees were both impressive. It's a croweded little place, with not a lot to move around, but with excellent food, friendly service (which accounted for one of my family members' significant food allergy), and above-average sangria, I will be back again. more

Is not all hype up to be 5/30/2006

I went this past weekend and I seated myself because there was no one at door. This past Memorial day weekend was hot and I asked the waiter why was the air condition not working and he responded ""doens't know why"". The food was so so, I had better in some other ""hole in the wall"" place. Thumbs down for me more

Amazing food and great people 4/18/2006

My cousin, who owns a restaurant, suggested we go to Lima's Taste on our first visit to NY. I couldn't have been more impressed - the food is divine, the owners are great, and the ambience is inviting. Try the Ceviche Mixto and a Pisco Sour. The sangria is fantastic, too. I will definitely return to this hidden hot spot! Pros: Food, Ambience, Owners more

Stumbled upon this Peruvian delight... 4/15/2006

Stranded in Greenwich Village on a Saturday night with hungry stomachs and no reservations, my boyfriend and I stopped into Lima's Taste... We each ordered the Escaveche - salmon and tuna. My tuna was firm, fresh and delicious. The sauce was spicy and vinegary, but in a good way. Yucca on the side topped it off. We noticed a group of Peruvians sitting next to us - always a good sign. Unfortunately, service was slow and when our server noticed we had not received our entree he comp'ed us two delightful margaritas - AND charged us only for appetizers , thereby cutting our bill in half. I will certainly return and gladly pay full price for such good food and sincere service! A great place for a date (dark, Spanish vibe), children (saw lots of little ones chowing down) and groups (great Sangria pitchers and small plates.) Pros: Ambience, Service, Sangria Cons: Crowded Weekends more

It's Sushi with Sangria! 4/9/2006

Walk down Christopher St and hit Bedford and you're sure to see a humorous msg on this restaurant's outdoor sign. Besides having an excellent, timely sense of humor, they serve super ceviche. The main dishes are decent, but you will be happier with the peruvian apps and ceviche dishes. In particular, try the ceviche caliente, ceviche mussels, papa rellena, and chicken causa. Part of the fun dining here is watching the parade of people wandering down the street, out for a night in the West Village. And most certainly, order a pitcher of the tasty Sangria. Pros: Ceviche, Sangria, Appetizers Cons: Music, Price more
