Good Food, BAD service 5/9/2006

great wine list (italian), good food, service was INITIALLY fine. After the main course came, we didn't see our waiter for at least 40 MINUTES! (food was delivered by a busboy, not waiter) We got no cheese offered for the pasta, our water and wine glasses remained EMPTY our entire meal, when we would have easily spent another $20 on wine. We could not catch our waiter's eye, and he ignored us. This was on a Tuesday night. The table next to us asked if he ""crushed the grapes"" himself when their long overdue bottle of wine finally arrived. We laughed when he finally offered us a dessert menu and we left a 10 percent tip, which was generous, I feel. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Too brightly lit more

good eat 4/24/2006

kalbi and nebbiolo do work together. i know we're talking about italian here... but such remark depicts the worldly somelier/owner/janitor of LPF, who is a true gourmand savvy not only in wine but in the basics of good eat. LPF's simply delicious and fantasically authentic neopolitan style pizza is excellente...my usual 1st course that can easily turn into the 2nd and 3rd. word of advice, save room for pasta dishes and never leave until you've had the tiramisu. Pros: casual, friendly/cozy more

Legitimate Italian 4/20/2006

I've grown up on Italian foods and wines and this place is the best. The pasta dishes are as close to what my Italian mother cooks and the pizza, for those of you who enjoy Neapolitan pizza, is very good. Don't be fooled by big name Italian restaurants in the area, often they try too hard and stray from the culinary tradition. By keeping everything simple and making sure all the ingredients are fresh (and, in most cases, imported directly from Italy), they remain much truer to the food I've had while in Italy. The cooks and chef are all Italian. If I have any complaints they are aimed only at the meat dishes, they are good but just not nearly as impressive as the rest of the menu. Also, have dessert. Pros: Pasta, Pizza, Wine List Cons: Meat entrees more

Ignored 4/17/2006

I had a party of 9 reservation and was very disappointed at the service. The atmosphere was nice but we were completely ignored. There was a different of 8 at a table across from us who recieved the waiters utmost attention. From pouring thier wine for the guests to promptly taking thier orders. I don't know what the issue was but it annoyed my guests as well. The pizza was not as good as I had expected. Now, I'm aware it's not easy to please a large party but if we weren't even given the opportunity. Never agian. This place really was not that special. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Service more

lovely night at la pizza fresca! 4/3/2005

Went there with my bf and another couple on a Friday night. When we arrived, it was still fairly empty, but by the time it neared 8:00pm, the restaurant was packed with ppl waiting at the bar for a table. The pizza portion is really good; the pizza was very tasty, not your typical crunchy thin crust pizza. But as other reviewers had stated, the crust is chewier with a slight hint of charred dough on the bottom. I had the quattro stagioni but I think I will try the margherita next time. For those who crave pasta try the tagliatelle with sausage in a black truffle cream sauce. So goood!! Overall very pleasant evening! Waiters were nice (not overly friendly as the place was quite busy) but always made it around to our table to refill our wine and water glasses. Would definitely recommend and return! Pros: great italian food, warm atmosphere, good value Cons: a little noisy more

Great everything! 2/23/2005

The food is excellent. Great service, servers are all very friendly. Extensive wine list, good selections too. Wide variety of pastas. Didn't get tired of the pasta, like I usually do halfway through a pasta dish. You'll be pleased if you want authentic Italian food. The pizzas are a MUST TRY, hence the name. I've had the tuna steak also, and it was made just perfect. And for dessert, go for the sorbets, absolutely outstanding. Cozy and romantic- perfect for a date. An A+ for this rare find. Pros: atmosphere, food, service Cons: parking, not much else more

Wow! Best pizza so far this year! 10/25/2004

I was in the mood for brick oven pizza as we had our first snow this year, so I decided to return to an old favorite, La Pizza Fresca. It had been a while since my last visit but when I arrived the waiter remembered me. Maybe I had forgotten how good their basic pizza margherita was because it was amazing this time -- the buffalo mozzarella was so rich and creamy it stood in delicious contrast to the sweet tomato sauce and chewy yet crisp crust. Truly a magnificent thing...it is just so different than all those other New York pizzas! I must return soon. Pros: top pizza in NYC Cons: busy on weekends with wait more

Best pizza west of the Atlantic Ocean... 12/23/2003

For those of you who have been to Naples and who appreciate true Neapolitan pizza--you'll be pleasantly surprised by La Pizza Fresca. Its margherita is clearly the best in New York. Don't be fooled by cheap imitations elsewhere. This pizza is the real thing. Great wine, an elegant atmosphere, and an authentic slice of Naples make for a wonderful dining experience. more

neapolitan pizza 12/6/2003

Pizza Fresca makes what is a certified neapolitan pizza. For those of you who have never had the luck to taste real neapolitan pizza (which you basically can't find in NY), it has indeed a distinctive ""sogginess"" to it. That means it's a bit softer and more ""chewier"". It is different from thin crust pizza. So, for all of you who complained about the sogginess, I am sorry but that's what Neapolitan pizza is all about (and also being a bit burnt on the side, in case you hate that as well, be aware). This said, I think Pizza Fresca comes pretty close to Neapolitan Pizza, not 100 % original but a very good imitation. And the place is very nice and the service is excellent...they might become a bit rude I guess when they have customers expecting Pizza Hut stuff... more

pretty good 9/3/2003

nice restaurant with good solid italian food. lots of different pastas and brickoven pizza to try. got a nice glass of house barbera which worked great. the calamari was ok. it's huge, you can totally share with a couple of friends. pastas seemed really rich. i prefered the pizza. mine was with prosciutto. service was low. there seemed to only be 2 waiters who seemed indifferent and a bunch of busboys running around performing waiter duties. i'd go again if i was in the neighborhood but for the money i think there are better places such as otto enoteca or l'ulivo. Pros: good pizza, nice wines Cons: pricey, poor service more

It has all... 4/18/2003

The authentic food, awesome wine list and friendly service made my experience enjoyable at this cozy Italian restaurant. Pros: great food, reasonable price, relaxing atmosphere more

Food Good, But Pizza SOGGY 4/10/2003

HAd a pleasant experience at fresca, the food , service, atmosphere - all enjoyable. My only complaint is that because of the cheese used - Buffalo Mozarella - and it's high water content makes for soggy pizza... so the longer the pizza sits on your plate the soggier it will get -so eat it quick.... Otherwise ingredients were very fresh and yummy, it's still one of my favorite italian spots! Pros: quality of ingredient, chill ambience, good food/wine Cons: soggy pizza more

Great pizza, rude service 3/11/2003

The brick oven pizza was excellent. The margarita pizza was delicious-- it was served pipping hot! Yum! I agree that the service was rude and slow. I understand the old world charm in leaving the patrons alone to enjoy a relaxed meal, but the wait was ridiculous. Pros: amazing pizza Cons: Rude staff, slow service more

delicious pizza 3/10/2003

I thought I was dreaming when i tasted the pizza Margherita. We were impressed with the fresh ingredients and the delicious sauce. The prices were affordable and the portions were generous. The only down side was the poor and disappointing service. Pros: great pizza Cons: poor service more

Deliciously authentic 1/2/2003

This little nook is truly a gem. Upon walking in and noticing the exposed red brick wall and the white tableclothes and and huge rack of various wines behind the bar, I felt like I was in a truly authentic Italian restaurant. The house chianti, salmon appetizer and tortellini with a delicious red sauce were all excellent. Prices were reasonable too. more
