Best

I have been to many doctors and this one got my astigmatism contact lenses best I have ever had. Dr Kurtin was not rushed , polite, very informative, and has a neat sense of humor...

Worst

I deleted the review, just wanted to make a point Dr. Kuritn.

Keratoconus-Dr. Kurtin Rocks! 7/9/2010

I have been suffering from deteriorating eyesight for the past 3-4 years. I was diagnosed with keratoconus and was referred to a cornea specialist. At my first visit I was scheduled for a corneal transplant! To no surprise I was shocked and scared! Feeling that I deserved a second opinion I looked online for a keratoconus specialist and found Dr. Kurtin in Plano, TX. He was very caring and patient with me the whole way through. He discussed my condition with me in a way that I could understand. He offered me some options and I was fitted for a special hybrid contact lens. So far my vision has improved drastically. I am a teacher and depend a great deal on my eyes. I understand that my vision will continue to change as the condition progresses although I am comforted in knowing that Dr. Kurtin will do what he can within his means to achieve the best vision for me possible. I continue to have an open mind and realize that one day I may in fact need a corneal transplant, but until then I?ll rely on my AWESOME Dr. Kurtin! Pros: AWESOME more

Thank you so much for taking care of me 6/25/2010

I have gone to Dr. Kurtin for about 22 years, and go every year and now bring my children. This year he found a retinal detachment in my eye. Just want all to know, he does not cut corners, every year he is just as thorough as he was in past years. I am thankful for having my sight and trust this man. Seems like he has gotten better running on time too. more

Happy now 6/22/2010

I went to Kurtin Eye Center to get fitted for contact lenses. I tried them a couple of years ago at an Ophthalmologist offfice after going several times and after a few months gave up. Dr Kurtin fit me with astigmatism contact lens for my dry eyes. I was impressed that it took this guy just one pair for me to try and it worked. The office is super modern, all the awesome gadgets to see the back of my eye without those annoying dilation drops. I have told several friends to go here, and they all come back happy :-) Pros: Reasonable prices, professional staff more

Dr. Kurtin is great offers patients options 6/10/2010

I met Dr. Kurtin about 5 years ago when I was trying to improve my severe nearsightedness by using the See Clearly method. Pros: He offers patient lasik referrals, and Corneal Refractive more

Expensive and Incompetent 6/5/2010

My wife had been going to Dr. Kurtin for over 20 years and so we expected continued highly competent care. The purpose of her last visit was to obtain a prescription for eyeglasses (her contacts were working fine). He convinced her that she also needed a new prescription for contacts so after shelling out over $800 for an exam and new contacts, imagine how surprised we were that the new contacts were worse than the originals. As for the prescription for the eyeglasses, they were standard magnifications for both eyes without any correction for her astigmatism so of course they were incorrect also. I guess he thought her astigmatism magically corrected itself. Well, we went to a competent optometrist, paid $63 for the exam, and got glasses that work. This guy has lost it. Pros: None Cons: Way overpriced, terrible results more

Fixed my double vision 5/19/2010

It's scary to start seeing double vision, then got on web for more information and saw list of thing that could cause it. Lucky for me I went here for an exam, turned out after prism testing , I had age related issues. My astigmatism also got worse, and was fixed with these new synergyes lenses. Its the best vision Ive ever had, no kidding. Dr Kurtin and his staff are tops. more

A doctor that listens 3/20/2010

I'm new to town, and had no idea how many vision places are around. I ask some people at work, went on line and chose this place. Being from a big city in the north, I find people very impatient and really do not listen well. I told Dr Kurtin about my vision changing, as I did everytime with other doctors, and he diagnosed Keratoconus. He went the extra mile and took a picuture of my eye, then showed me what was happening. For about 10 years no doctor could explain my vision changing after telling them my concerns. Other than surgery, I opted for a contact lens to hopefully stop the changes. Luckily it was not too severe. Pros: Doctor really knows his stuff Cons: Had to pay some out of pocket but overall worth it more

Great place for bad Service! 3/16/2010

When I first made my appointment I felt funny about going here, the girl over the phone was sooo rude and spoke to me like I was an idiot..(i think her name was cristian or kristan) I was confused about the contact lens exam with my insurance and instead of being understanding she rushes me off the phone and puts me on hold for about 3mins. Another girl picked up who knew more about insurance and was really nice...but I was still upset. After arriving for my appoinment, I realized who the rude girl was immediately!!! The first thing out of her mouth is "SIGN IN" (No Hello!!!!) Then "do you have your paper work? NO I was not told about printing paper work, so she says "now you have to fill out paper work which will delay your appointment" OK SO I DIDNT SAY ANYTHING I sat down and noticed she had a really bad attitude rolling her eyes at her co-workers in front of customers....VERY unprofessional.Ok I was done there. Pros: Friendly insurance girl Cons: horrible service otherwise more

Thanks mom 1/2/2010

I hate doctors, always seem to talk down and have zero staff services. My mom pushed me to this place, and said my vision would be thankful. Okay, mom was right, and I do know why Dr Kurtin is well regarded. He's a strait shooter, handled my care with real respect. I'm 32 years old and have gone to eye doctor all my life for bad astigmatsm. I still cant believe how much better I see now than ever before. By the way, my 7 year old loves him, he's funny. Pros: Location Cons: Took day off from work for available appointment more

Wonderful Doctor 8/11/2009

Took my 6 year old, referred from Baylor Childrens. She had exam with another eye doctor last week in Frisco. But Dr Kurtin did some tests I never heard of-- something called 'Supression'-- my daughter was fine. But had issue with traking he said. Dr Kurtin is a wonderful doctor, I would recommend him to anyone. more

The Best in the Business! 7/20/2009

Dr. Kurtin and his staff are wonderful to work with. It is hard for me to get contacts that work well for me but Dr. Kurtin lets me try several types before I have to make my decision. This is so helpful because some brands of contacts are more like an investment when it comes to getting the right ones for my special eye needs. Mariam works in the eye glasses department and is so helpful and knowledgable when he comes to lenses and frames. No matter how many times I stop by to look at frames or get adjustments, I am always welcomed by my first name as I walk in the door. Everyone there is fantastic! Pros: They work hard to make the customer happy Cons: None more

Great Doctor & Great Staff 7/9/2009

My family has been patients with Dr. Kurtin for many years - i believe over 6 years. Dr. Kurtin and Staff have always paid close attention to details and very helpful helpful when picking out frames. My elementary age daughter has difficultly with keeping her frames straight - sometimes we have been in Dr. Kurtin's office once a week getting adjustments. Dr. Kurtin is a great doctor and the staff is exceptional. Go see him!! Pros: Take Time with patient Cons: n/a more

great doctor! 6/9/2009

Dr Kurtin is a real find. I have a condition called keratoconus. My original eye doctor had told me that I would soon need a corneal transplant. So I decided to look around. Dr Kurtin had so many more options for me. I now have better vision then I ever thought possible and real hope for my future. He cares a lot and it shows. His staff is also very kind and professional. I would definitely recommend him to anyone I know. Pros: very thorough and caring Cons: no Sat appointments more

Go here 6/3/2009

I'm very difficult to fit for contacts and been all over, I never had vision that I think it should be. I found dr kurtin on a search- Unbelievable-- he ordered a pair of sample of lenses for me to try. I'm not kidding, this was the best lenses I have had-- his nurse was great too, really helpful and very professional. Pros: best eye exam I've had Cons: could not get a saturday appointment more

First Exam 2/13/2009

Just wanted you to know that I traveled a far distance to see this doctor after reading these reviews. I never had an exam and was worried about having to wear eyeglasses. My vision was always better than most people I met and I could see way out in the distance before anyone else. When I no longer could see close up, I bought magnifiers at CVS and they worked for a while but my vision was still getting worse. Like most doctors I have been to, I expected it to be quick and get a prescription and be on my way. The doctor found that my vision was getting worse because of my sugar was probably being high, which I later found out to be true with my family doctor. I would have given him 3 stars because they did not take my HMO insurance when I thought they said they did and it was a long drive. They wanted me to write this too and tell other people about them, which was fine with me. I think the doctor saved my vision and my family doctor said it was a good thing. Pros: Very thorough more

Travelled from Frisco Texas 2/1/2009

I don't usually believe many blogs and ratings from the internet. I needed to find a really good place for an eye exam and be fitted for these special torik contact lenses, my doctor in Frisco just could never get my vision sharp. My obgyn recommended dr kurtin, this is her doctor. I was a little nervous about going, but once I saw the place and talked with staff, it was a great big relief! Very modern, very high tech, I could not believe how different this place was compared to the guy I was seeing in Frisco. Dr Kurtin fit me in these one-day lenses for astigmatism, I was totally impressed with how clear my vision is. I just had to share this super place and tell you this is a doctor with real talent-- I told some people at church, and little did I know many of them already go here. Funny how you an live in a place so long and never realize what been there... more

Great Experience 1/25/2009

I found this place from my insurance list and it was a welcomed surprise! I was used to retail type of doctors and optical centers. The difference is amazing in the quality of care, knowledge and overall treatment. Everyone there was friendly and they guy that sells glasses was very helpful. The assistant that takes you back before you see the doctor is as sweet as she is hot! The selection of glasses isn't as much as retail places but it's all top quality and name brands. I know I'll be back! Pros: cool aquarium and coffee machine. Great Staff Cons: ran late more

Better than chainstores, glad my insurance changed 1/12/2009

I hated to go somewhere else when my insurance changed. I had been going to chainstores and thought not about it, until my appointment with Kurtin Eye Center. Never did I realize any difference between chain doctors, who always took my insurance, and a real doctor that offices with a bunch of other doctor types-- I never did notice know this place was next to my kids Pediatrician's office all these years. All I can say is the quality care is so much better, the staff treated me in sincerely caring manner, the doctor himself was very hip and up to date (and very very handsome) , and seemed to have all the time in the world for me, maybe that is why he ran late with me. Pros: Great place for children exams Cons: Bring work, may be late running more

Back again 12/10/2008

I had been going to Dr Kurtin for a few years back in the 90s. I went to another doctor after because I was tired of paying more for something I thought was the same everywhere. After my stint going there, I was now tired of the hustle of that doctor and now she is gone and don't know where she went, just disappeared, with my records. There is a lot to be said when I returned back to Dr Kurtin recently. He had expanded into a larger building, more gizmos to test for all kinds of things and a real nice staff. I thought he would be even more money since all the niceties, but after 12 years his fees are still about the same! I just need to give it up and stop being cheap as I really need better care with doctors like Kurtin, even if he doesn't take my insurance. more
