Northeast Gem 1/12/2010

What a pleasant surprise. I don’t often get to Northeast Minneapolis, but happened to be there the other evening. Being hungry and thirsty, I stopped at Keegan’s for supper and a drink. The menu is broad and my meal was excellent. Drinks are reasonably priced. The staff is both helpful and friendly. This pub is not large but has a very nice “feel”. I stayed longer than I had planned and would definitely go again. Pros: Menu ambiance staff Cons: None more

Great Food...Great Atmosphere 1/11/2010

My husband and I last visited Keegan's Pub last week. While his favorite menu item is the Fish n Chips, I tried something different this time. The Chipolte Frisco Melt was fabulous! It's a favorite place for us to eat - not only for the delicious food but the friendly staff and wonderful entertainment. If you want a place to go that has great food AND great entertainment, you MUST VISIT KEEGAN'S PUB! Pros: Friendly Staff, Wonderful Menu Choices Cons: None more

Awsome fish and chips and ice cold McSorely 1/10/2010

I stopped by this authentic Pub for fish and chops and a pint. Our group was met and seated by Kailie who had a GREAT smile and very friendly. I ordered a McSorley on tap and it arrived ICE COLD. We ordered and I had the fish and chips. Make sure you get the malt vinegar to make it like being in the UK. My food arrived just as I finished off the first pint. Kailie was right there to refresh the table. All at the table commented on how good the food was and that we each want to go back to try other menu items (shepard's pie). 2 beers and a meal for $20.00 was a GREAT DEAL. I will be back and with more friends. Marty the manager invited us back for Trivia later this week. I highly recomend this place, as I eat out way too often and have had a few bad expeiences. THIS was definatly NOT one of them. Pros: Fresh food, Ice cold beer, GREAT SERVICE Cons: Can get a bit croweded when busy more

My Favorite Pub 12/26/2009

Truly an Irish "Local". Friendly staff and easy to get to know other customers. New menu features much more than standard pub grub. I expected only fish & chips, corned beef, etc. but found a truly international menu. The scallop Linguini is spectacular. They even have a fillet mignon which I have not tried yet but friends like it.\ Keegan's is an Irish Pub in the truest sense. Intimate and friendly with good food and not too expensive. Pros: Intimate like the pubs in Ireland Cons: Limited seating more

Really Fun Place 12/25/2009

I love the Tuesday trivia. Good competition and great fun. Food is always good. Friendly staff. I highly recommend the place. Pros: Excellent Food and Fun Pub Quiz! Cons: Sometimes too crowded more

INSULTING WAITRESS - OVERPRICED FOOD 12/12/2009

The only reason I gave this place one star is because zero is not a choice. Realistically, a negative 5 would be appropriate. I normally don't have the time to do write ups, but the treatment we received last night was so insulting that it is worth the effort. I went there with relatives because it was convenient & no waiting list (now I know why). This was Sat. night & the place was 1/2 full. There were 7 of us & we asked Jillene if it was OK to split the check 3 ways & we immediately encounter a disgusting look & sigh. Jillene was obviously inconvenienced with our request as she scratched out our order & had to rewrite it on another page. The next issue came up as she took our order. My wife & I wanted to split an order of fish & chips. Jillene advised that there a $2 additional charge. I told my wife that I wasn't that hungry & told her to order whatever she wanted. Jillene, in a very condescending way leaned toward me & slowly explained all the reasons why they had to have the additional charge. Everyone in our group was amazed at the blatant disrespect she was displaying. If we weren't so tired, we would have walked out. The service was extremely slow, I had to walk to the bar & get another beer myself. Others in my group said the food was OK, but small portions, definitely not worth the price we paid. My sister-in-law could not eat the ham sandwich, it was too salty. Typically, the solution to bad service is to modify the tip, however, gratuity was automatically added. My brother asked why that was included & Jillene smugly said there were more than 6 people in our group. But wait! She wasn't done insulting us yet, with a shit -eating grin she said "you can always add more". My wife was floored at that comment & looked at the menu to check if that was in writing. It was, & as we left, Jillene asked my wife if she found the gratuity policy on the menu. We ignored her as we left. Jillene was so rude & disrespectful, we will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It is aggrevating to think we had to pay someone a tip to treat us like dirt. I work in the customer service area myself & if I acted the same way, I would be out of a job. Pros: Leaving the restaurant Cons: Jillene our waitress, over priced, small portions more

I never had a local in my hometown until Keegan's opened in 2002 10/11/2009

I never had a local in my hometown until Keegan's opened in 2002. I have always felt welcome when I visited Keegan's, both by the staff and by the punters. That's what keeps me coming back. Their prices aren't the lowest, but the friendly atmosphere, plus the great beers on tap (especially Guinness and Smithwick's), keep me coming back. more

Really great pub food! 8/11/2008

I have eaten here five times now. I have never had an issue with the service, in fact, I often find the wait staff slightly flirtatious (maybe it's just me). There is a great selection of Irish beers and liquors if you need a great pint of Guinness or a neat of McCallan 12. Fish and Chips is probably the best in the Twin Cities!!!! I also highly recommend the Corned Beef Sandwich and the Irish Onion and Cheese soup!!! 3 Standout dishes! I have also heard good things about other dishes. I love to go here, and usually immediately follow-up lunch at Keegan's with free wine-tasting at Surdyk's across the street!!!! Pros: Basically everything, proximity to Surdyk's, Cheese & Onion Soup Cons: Pay for parking in the lot or at a meter more

Great Irish environment with comfortable ambiance 9/12/2007

Warm and cheerful environment with absolutely wonderful selection of fresh drafts of good Irish, English and continental beers and ales. Top notch pub food, always freshly made. Great shephard pies, with good fish and chips and fine daily specials. We go often and always feel comfortable. Good crowd mix, with frequent local Irish entertainment. Service quick and friendly. Pros: Good food, good value, congenial atmoshere more

Horrid place to visit 12/12/2006

Threrule of no less the 3 people at a 4 top table is stupid. All the 2 tops are small squat table and only one was left. We asked someone (who ended up being the manager) if we could sit at one of the 4 tops. She said she would go check. She ended up sitting at the end of the bar and having a glasss of wine. She was the one who could make the decision! While we were there we saw 3 two tops turned away bacause they could not sit at the 4 top table. That is not way to run a business. Our server was rude and not friendly. The food was good, but not good enough to go back. I warn all, "DO NOT GO HERE" Pros: food Cons: management.stupid rules, service more

Horrid Place. Avoid at all cost. There are much better places to go. 12/12/2006

The rule of no less the 3 people at a 4 top table is stupid. All the 2 tops are small squat tables and only one was left. We asked someone (who ended up being the manager/part owner) if we could sit at one of the 4 tops. She said she would go check. She ended up sitting at the end of the bar and having a glass of wine. She was the one who could make the decision! While we were there we saw 3 two tops turned away bacause they could not sit at the 4 top table. That is not way to run a business. 1/2 Way to St. Patrick's Day Festival 6/28/2006

Okay, so I know I posted a review about an event last time, but I can't let this one pass anyone by either. They are having another FREE event in a couple of weeks, and this time it is all weekend long! I found the information on their website, so I thought I would post it on here. Keegan's is having this festival to celebrate the 1/2 Way to St. Patrick's Day "holiday." How great is that? They are also going to try to break a record for the biggest fish fried in Minnesota, on Saturday night. I talked to one of the bartenders about it, and he said they are donating the net proceeds from the fish fry to the American Diabetes Association. Now there is a good reason to celebrate... the money is going to charity! I thought I would jot down the band info. too. Friday, Sept. 15th Kissers.7 p.m. 10 p.mOutside Erin Rouge.........10 p.m. CloseInside Saturday, Sept. 16th Wild Colonial Boys.3 p.m. 6 p.m..Outside Locklin Road...7 p.m. 10 p.m....Outside Erin Rouge.........10 p.m. CloseInside Sunday, Sept. 17th Traditional Irish Session6 p.m. Close..Inside The Biggest Fish Fried will take place Saturday at 6 p.m. Everyone should stop by! The people are great, the food is great and the beer is even better! more

A Most Unwelcoming Place 11/26/2005

Visited Keegan's on a Sunday afternoon with one other person (party of two). The restaurant is only half full, but ALL the tables are marked "3 or more people". Grab a table in the front, in a group of tables. Wait for service. Wait some more. Finally a waitress comes over and says that we can't sit there because the "band" will be sitting there in 2 hours. I ask her where two people would be able to sit in the restaurant, (half full). Hmmm she looks around, and looks around some more. Basically there is NO PLACE for 2 people to sit in this half-full restaurant. This is the third time this has happened to me at Keegans. So we leave and walk down the street to The Times. Very welcoming. Bartender and waitress actually welcome us when we walk in and say "grab a table anywhere you'd like". Cons: Seating, Rudeness more
