The true taste of Italy in L.A. 12/11/2006

This is hands down the best Italian food in L.A. My family comes from Napoli and this is the food I grew up on. Good hearty Italian dishes. You know the old saying 'no one cooks as good as mom' is true, but this just makes me want to have two moms! The atmosphere is cozy, with a friendly and lively ambiance. The seating is quaint, yet packed, so expect to be rubbing elbows with neighbors. However, this isn't intrusive or a drawback, it gives more of a family style dinner atmosphere. It's just as great for a romantic dinner, although you may want to be seated outside. The staff is very nice and easy to get along with. Make sure to get to know Mama Flora, you'll understand exactly why I say you'll wish you had two moms. The food is excellent and the prices are almost a steal for the quality you are getting. I haven't had a dish there yet that I haven't liked and that's really hard to say for some places, but here it's true. It can get crowded so make reservations. You can bring your own wine or choose from their selection. I highly recommend Il Capriccio if your on a date, it's proximity to the Silver Lake night life makes a great way to start your night. Buon appetito! Pros: Great Italian food in a central location. Mama Flora, but brush up on your Italian first. ;) Cons: It can get very crowded, so make reservations. Finding parking on the street, but there is valet. more

Warmest Italian Service Around 9/6/2006

While the food was standard ""good"" Italian - nice cuts of chicken and veal in buttery flavorful sauces next to al dente pasta - it was the service that made this experience worth it. Our waiter took all required steps (and more) to make sure we were stuffed, satisfied, and smiling all throughout dinner. I recommend waiting for a patio seat - they are limited but the stylish passerbys give it a real Venitian vibe. Pros: Ambience, Service Cons: A little pricy more

Totally Worth the Trip 4/2/2006

They were slammed but the service as great. Servers were friendly and attentive. Food was great and reasonably priced. Going back for more - soon. Pros: Nice People, Good Food, Reasonable Prices more

That's Italian! 1/5/2006

Finally, a place that know how to make pasta!!! It's actually Al Dente! Pros: Great Food, Friendly Staff, Parking in Back more

cozy italian 12/29/2005

a friend and i celebrated our dual birthdays at il capriccio. the service was great, everyone was very friendly, but not overbearing. the food was pretty standard italian, nothing mind blowing. the place reminds me of those cozy joints that you find all over the place in boston, philly and nyc. Pros: parking, price, no attitudes! Cons: small more

Perfect Place Near the Greek Theatre 10/10/2005

We discovered this place while looking for eateries near the Greek Theatre. The food was excellent!!! We tried 5 of their pasta dishes and each dish was fresh and delish. Another bonus was that the prices were very reasonable. The service was also very good. The only negative thing was the very small wine list. Also, I noticed that due to the popularity of the restaurant, it is best to arrive early. This place is a keeper Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Close to Theatre Cons: Small Wine List more

quite simply the best 10/6/2005

we love this place. i come to il campriccio at least twice a month. their homemade tiramisu is a must-have and so is their fresh brewed passion fruit iced tea. my favs include the antonio and tres funghi! YUM YUM! good and cheap. don't come if you're dieting. Pros: good grub, friendly wait staff, desserts! Cons: fatting, small tables, wait on weekends more

Great Neighborhood Spot 9/15/2005

My husband and I eat at Il Capricio frequently. I wouldn't say that the food is amazing but it is quite solid. Overall, eating at Il Capricio is always an enjoyable experience and intend to conitue to be a regular. more

NYC Style Neighborhood Italian 1/16/2005

Restaurants like this are all over New York City and the surrounding area but there seems to be a dearth of them in LA. While the food is not revelatory, it is obviously prepared with care and is flavorful and attractively presented. Seafood is fresh and tasty and the occassional meatball special is truly delish - the meatballs are light and flavorful, not the leaden fare one is often forced to choke down. Service is attentive and casually personal - we're routinely greeted with a smile by the owners although we are by no means regulars. Prices are more than fare for the large portions. Affordable, fast and very, very tasty. REAL neighborhood Italian! Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Parking in back more

A neighborhood gem 11/14/2004

Having lived in Los Feliz for a number of years, it is hard to describe the value of an instant neighborhood favorite like this. Everything is wonderful about the food and the quaint ambiance (with a cozy patio as well!). Especially great is the service. The wait staff alone is so genunie and knowledgable about the menu and always recommend the most complimentary dishes. There are other Italian options in the village, but none give you that sense of someone welcoming you into their own kitchen like this one. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

this place rules!!! 11/8/2004

i wonder what happened to the eggplant parm complainer. i have been frequenting ilcapriccio for about 3 years now & one of my favs is the eggplant parm! it tastes just like my grandma used to make back in brooklyn. virtually everyone that i introduce to the place has become regular patrons & all of their friends as well. my most recent obsession has been to try whatever specials they have to offer. i must admit the service tends to diminish when its very busy but that is totally understandable, the charm of most of the staff & the new owners (especially mamma flora) far surpass having to wait for a table or my dinner. all in all ilcapriccio is one of the best italian eateries on the east side if not all of hollywod. i am pleased & will continue to obsess on the nightly specials! see you there more

tiny jewel 10/3/2004

With an outdoor patio and amazingly friendly service, this quickly topped my list of neighborhood treats. I hope their lunch service lasts. Its so nice to sit outside on a beautiful day and sip wine with an amazing pasta meal. Pros: free parking, very friendly staff, excellent food more

Good food, bad service 8/13/2004

We went on a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised to find available seating. The menu had a nice variety and the prices were extremely reasonable. The service was great until around 8 PM when the restaurant got very busy but no additional staff was added. Once busy, our waiter couldn't have paid less attention to us! Another drawback was (apparently) the daughter of the owner who came to eat as we were completing our main course but seemed to find it necessary to gawk at the patrons but not speak to them...kind of odd in a city where gawking is discouraged. Pros: Inexpensive, Parking, Variety Cons: , Not much flavor, Street Noise more

Reliable Italian 5/8/2004

Small but not too, there is patio seating, parking in the back and a big list of specials. Due to the other review, we stayed away from deserts, but one MUST is the black fettuccini - and you can mix and match the pasta and sauce - and they are really nice about it. Make it your reliable neighborhood Italian. more

Perfect 2/16/2004

Amazing service, wonderful authentic food and great atmosphere - thank god for Il Capriccio!! Even though the original owners just sold it, they've kept the menu and the service staff. The new owners could be a little less focused on the bottom line (I notice now they serve their own wine and have sales-y stuff on the tables) but overall, this is a great place for fantastic Italian. The squid ink linguini (with cream sauce) is AMAZING. Pros: service, food, atmosphere more

A true neighborhood gem 6/23/2003

Il Capriccio is a refreshing, cozy but not cramped, family-run gem in the midst of hipster-victim central, Los Feliz. Bread is yummy and served with herbed oil. Fried calamari easily serves 2 and was very good, but not great. Don't get the steak. I wanted medium-well, got mostly well-done, and the meat quality was Sizzler-esque. Sauteed spinach and roasted potatoes were excellent. Chicken Vesuvio is their signature and worth the wait. The lobster risotto special was very tasty. Chicken marsala and piccata are also good. They make fresh pasta daily. Creme brulee is great. Strawberry swirl cheese/mousse cake has chunks of real strawberries and a layer of whipped cream and grated white chocolate. Yum. Service was okay. The waitress was good at first, but we waited 20 minutes for our appetizer and continually asked for water refills. Calamari was $8. Entrees averaged $10-13. Steak was $15. Pros: reasonable prices, nice atmosphere, good food Cons: service just okay, no prime beef more

Capriccio on my mind 6/22/2003

I work all day serving food, six days a week. When I'm done I head over to Capriccio's for the usual: a soup, a salad and Antonio's pasta. My girlfriend and I bring our own wine and like to split dishes so that we have enough room for a slice of Rosemary's delicious zucotto. We have called ahead a few times to reserve a slice so that our dining experience will be complete! We inevitably end up talking to the people at the table adjacent to us and round out our experience of great food and service with wonderful conversation about all and sundry. Pros: flavorful food, terrific service, bring your own wine Cons: stomach too small, not enough zucotto, patio/ smokers only more

service 5/14/2003

the lighting is great and the food is priced appropriately but the service is not four star. the twins are less than friendly sometimes and you get forgotten quickly if it gets busy. It is still miles ahead of what else is available in the neighborhood (excluding the vermont). Pros: lighting, outdoor seating, clean bathroom Cons: service, service, service more

Great Food & Prices; Bring the Kids Too! 8/4/2002

This is a wonderful restaurant with a casual, happy atmoshpere although it gets a little loud. Staff are very pleasant and very eager to serve it your way. The food, along with the hospitality, make this place one of the best. The pene with lamb and egplant, chicken vesuvio, lobster ravioli, roasted eggplant soup, are among our favorite picks on the menu. And despite what the CitySearch review says, bring the kids! It is a very family freindly, comfy place! But call ahead on the weekends! more

Great Italian in Los Feliz! 8/2/2002

Great food in a comfortable atmophere where the owners and staff treat customers like old friends. Pleasant ambience, indoor and outdoor seating, and very reasonable prices. One of the best bets in the area! Pros: Great food, Friendly staff, Good prices more
