Have eaten here dozens of times and always felt we were getting a good value for our dollar. But at our most recent visit, the food was terrible. We had a tasteless vegetable soup. (The salad was its usual great self.) And our pasta dishes were so dripping with oil, it was amazing we did not have a gall bladder attack on the spot. I could put up with the deficiencies of this place before - but if the food is going to be so poor, we will not patronize any more. I had dinner tonight with friend of mine at this place. Overfull, very unkind women at the cash register (assuming manager) kicked us out of the restaurant because its 10:30 and they are closing! Our bottle of wine was half full, but she didn't really care. She just wanted to be out of there. Not first time that I'm shocked from this place how unkind people (usually manager/host at the door) are (never waiters, they are OK). So, as a local who live next door in SoHo, I would not recommend this place and I will not came back. Don't even think about bringing friend or something, unless u wanna be embarrassed. I recently ate here this past weekend and realized that I should have listened to the reviews before stepping into the restaurant. First off we had a party of 4 and was not seated because only 3 out of the were in attendance. I told the hostess that my son was parking the car. To our dismay the hostess said sorry and seated another party ahead of us. When we finally got seated we were only given 3 menus. They said they ran out. I must say the food was subpar and I actually exp. The no wine after your meal ordeal. The food is subpar yet the service and owner run this place to the ground. It is like a military food camp. Get you in and out just as fast. I will not recommend this place to anyone more

I love Italian food, but this is the worst place to eat, even if the food is half descent.!! The Owner who is nasty, rude, only to chosen customers as I observed, can ruin your appetite and dinner experience all at once. I had inquired about my order being wrongly served and she apologized without any real sincerity and move on without a care in the world. The food is sub-par and the manager is DISGUSTING, RUDE, SARCASTIC and CONDESCENDING. They have no sense of customer satisfaction and should be AVOIDED at all cost.\r \r She refused to seat us when there were THREE empty tables in the restaurant because ""only 5 out of 6 people were there."" \r \r When the waiter brought us the wrong dish, the manager responded by saying ""pasta is pasta they all taste the same."" Who would have expected such a response from a restaurant that supposedly serves decent Italian food. Not only did they fail to apologize, they did not let us order another dish and only after continued complaints did she respond in a completely sarcastic tone saying ""don't worry I already removed it from your check."" For the rest of our meal she continued making snide remarks and blatantly mocked and laughed at us for complaining about our food.\r \r No New Yorker or tourist in their right mind would eat here. I'm really bothered that i've been forced to write this review. I've gone to this restaurant consistently for the past 8 years and have always raved about their service. The food is excellent, really inexpensive and the variety of pasta is a major plus. However, after having dinner there yesterday (which was a Friday) I will never give them my business again. My party of 3 ordered 2 appetizers, 3 entrees and a bottle of wine. After finishing our bottle of wine, we asked the waiter for the wine menu to order another. He comes back to the table 5 minutes later and says he can't serve us another bottle because they need to free up the table. I grabbed the owner/manager and asked her why we weren't being served another bottle. She proceeds to give us a long rundown about how ""it's bad for their business to let people sit a table and drink when they need to keep tables open. That a $6 glass of wine isn't worth it for them because there dinner menu is too inexpensive. They can't afford to lose other business. If it were a Tuesday not a Friday it would be different and on and on""... Gasp!... I could not believe what I was hearing, in a restaurant, from the manager. I'm also more confused because we were about to order another ""bottle"" (not a glass) which would have likely turned into another bottle, plus dessert. Who's to say the next customer may have only ordered 2 entrees only and no alcohol???... Sorry, my rant is so long... ugh!... Still fuming! The food is fine and affordable, but when I asked for another glass of wine they refused to serve me. Mind you I wasn't intoxicated, I only had one glass of wine. But they have this ""policy"" when they serve you dessert they will no longer serve you wine. Their reason is because they don't want people to take time sitting drinking wine when they have people waiting for tables outside. Well I feel that is ludicrous because if you had ordered a bottle of wine you would be sitting there drinking it regardless of the course. I told the maitre d her argument was invalid and she refused to accept she was wrong.\r \r I wont be going back again after years of going there. I would advise to find another Italian style restaurant as there are plenty others around serving the same food, for the same price. more

The prices are very reasonable because they don't spend much on flavor. How is a fried chicken breast with salad greens on top a ""special""? I was there for a birthday dinner and tried many of the pastas on the menu and many tasted the same. The ambiance is a step above a diner and they take great pride in their 16 year policy of not seating incomplete groups, even when they're empty on a Wednesday night - AND, no joke, if someone joins a seated party, they won't let them eat. What kind of policy is that?! Too bad they care more about their policies than the customers or the food. I won't return.\r p.s. This is a cute little restaurant that serves up satisfying fresh pasta and yummy pizza. I always end up ordering the squid ink linguine with shrimp, prosciutto and peas in a tomato cream sauce - SO GOOD! Also recommend the four cheese pizza. I lived around the corner from Il Corrallo for 15 years or so, and have eaten here many times (maybe 20?). I never had any problems with the staff, although this is definitely the sort of place where you eat, pay the bill, and leave. (Cheap places like this need to turn over the tables to make a profit, so I could see the staff getting huffy if a table wanted to linger and chat.) Stay away from this place, I can?t believe how they treat people there. The food has either no taste, or it?s just pure salt and it?s served cold. Me and my friends ordered so much food, and we wanted a bottle of wine with it. They gave us a bad wine, literally it went bad so we politely refused to drink it but the waiter told us we should give it some time to get some air and then it would be fine (?). After 20 minutes the wine was of course still bad and not safe to drink so we asked if we could order some other beverages and they refused to take our order for beverages! The manager came out to us and yelled at us that if we order something we should stick with our order and not pretend like we know so much about wine, and if we don?t like the service and wine so much then why the hell did we come here in the first place and that we should have gone somewhere else! Our jaws dropped, we haven?t even complained much about the wine, we simply asked the waiter for more other drinks since the wine seemed to have gone bad. I totally agree with some people here. The 5-star reviews of this restaurant must have been written by the owner because there is no possible way anyone could genuinely like that place. All of the people who I know and have been there had an awful experience! The waiters are beyond rude, the hostess is completely crazy. They will tell you how much and what you can order and what not. They will refuse to give you beverages during meal saying you should be finishing your food faster!! Don't even deal with the hostess, she will defend her staff and yell at you that you should eat faster ang go!!! They will ruin your meal and you will leave angry or sad. Moreover, the food is not that good, it was ok... lacked any flavor really. And the restaurant, epsecially the back of it is very dirty. I don't think it's even safe to eat there. I just cannot believe this place is still in existence. They must be able to run it still only because of the location that delivers them constact tourist clients. Because any New Yorker in the right mind would not go there twice!! more

I have been to this restaurant three times before (by coincidence each time really because the food isn?t anywhere near great to make me go back a few times to eat there). Each time I was there, the hostess/manager seemed to have an argument with some guests, and they would end up leaving very angry. Finally it was my time to learn the truth about this place. I arrived a bit late one night and my friends were already sitting down and their food was just arriving to the table. When I asked for the menu right then it was refused to me since the place ?does not serve late parties?. The waiter just walked away. My friends then decided to order something more for themselves so I could nibble on it as well, and the menu this time was refused to them as well, the waiter saying angrily that they cannot order because they would end up giving the food to me (pointing his fingers at me), and that if I want to eat I can be seated at another table because they won?t serve late parties. Mind you, the restaurant was half empty so it wasn?t as if they were worried about us staying there late and keeping the table busy with me ordering late. This time we asked for the manager, the server said angrily that she will come out. She did not. We asked again, again we were told the manager would come out but she never did. At the end the desert was refused to us as well and we finally got up and went to the manager, who with a smile on her face said that the there is a sign saying the restaurant does not serve late parties and if we didn?t like that, then perhaps we should have gone someplace else. And she walked away. We could not believe our ears. I have never been that disrespected in any restaurant in NYC or in the world. Please don?t ever take your friends there, the staff is incredibly rude and you?ll be ashamed having brought your friends there! more

I don't know how this place stays in business! The food is so good and so cheap. Where else can you get seafood pasta for $13.95? A friend lives nearby and I was looking for restaurants in the area, and after reading the reviews, we thought it might be entertaining to see how rude this hostess was. She was so nice, smiling and pleasant, and she was the one who brought our bottle of wine over and opened it for us. Maybe it's a different hostess? Definitely check it out, and get a pasta with cream sauce, the pastas with garlic & oil were good, but not as flavorful. more

Very rude hostess! Would not recommend in any way to go there! The woman thinks she is the queen and can do anything she likes. We were witness when she kicked out one person from the restaurant because customer asked to see menu again (?????????). Then refused to bring us coffee, with words ""you are staying long enough - time to leave"" (??????). We spend $120 for dinner and we are staying ""long enough""? Is she crazy? My husband and I have never had a bad meal or experience at this restaurant. We often take out of town guests there for some good Italian food and an easy atmosphere. We enjoy their great pasta dishes and appetizer salads. The prices are reasonable and their pizzas are excellent.
