Best

Service is excellent, very nice atmosphere. Price is fair. The food is absolutely fantastic, some of the best in town! Can you tell I like this restaurant? It's one of my favor...

After reading the glowing reviews of this restaurant, my cousin and I decided to try it out. From the moment we walked in the door, the experience was downright terrible. The ho...

the house...the best fusion in san francisco 5/25/2006

After enjoying The House for 8 plus years, I felt it was time to add my review. What can I say...The food is delicious whether you are there for lunch(very well priced) or dinner. I can close my eyes and order off the menu with a point of my finger knowing that the dish will be excellent. The black cod, sea bass, short ribs, pork chop, rib eye, noodles all make my mouth water. And the desserts which are 'house made' at the restaurant are always perfection as well- crem brulee, tapioca, apple pie, chocolate torte. Check it out and you will not be disappointed...Reservation helps immensely. Pros: Delicious, Well Priced, Nice Staff more

I great find in North Beach 5/1/2006

Even though they did not have our reservation listed, they did try their best to seat us as soon as possible. Not the best table, but we only had to wait 10 minutes (it was Friday night too). The food was amazing, and I'm not easily impressed. I would highly recommend the salmon roll, crab cake, and hamachi (special for the night) for appetizers. Two of us had the entree special, black cod, which was fantastic. The other two had the duck and flatiron steak. Everyone loved what they ordered. I loved it so much I'm taking a friend from out of town there for lunch this week. Pros: great seafood, fun location Cons: parking is difficult more

A HOUSE is not always a Home 4/23/2006

Every dish was chipped. If you are going to charge these prices, get some new dishes. When one diner pointed out to his waitress that his glass was chipped - she turned around and rolled her eyes. Pay attention to detail and be nice to your customer. Looks are deceiving. The Duck special was AWFUL! The duck was undercooked, veiny and flavorless; I felt like I was chewing gum and gulping it down. White asparagus sounded exotic, but was like eating a chewy, bitter, bamboo shoot. The waitstaff constantly gave us the eye to rush us out. For an 8 pm Saturday reservation made a month in advance, and at a restaurant with these prices, we should not be rushed out the door. REALLY tacky. The only reason I had fun at House was because of my friends; next time Id rather go to their House than this one. Pros: Fun Location Cons: Food, Parking, Touristy Area more

yum 3/30/2006

House is one of my favorite SF restaurants. The food is always good, fresh and creative. The quarters may be cramped, but I have always had an enjoyable meal. The salmon appetizer with hot mustard sauce is a siren calling me back each time. House is perfect if you are interested in great food and a well selected wine list. It is not a place for a private conversation or easy parking :-). Pros: food, creative menu, value Cons: Parking = North Beach more

Fusion done right 12/5/2005

Not only is the food delectable, this place also does an excellent job of presenting the end results. The pork chop in a pomegranate sauce (the favorite at the table), the ahi tuna with spicy mustard aioli, and steak with passionfruit puree were all great, and the dessert (pear crisp, served a la mode - special for that day) was fingerlicking good. While they do accommodate vegetarians with some small plates, and will rustle up a custom order of noodles with tofu (quite tasty, and there are even a few sauces to choose from), it's not exactly a vegetarians' wonderland. The server was very gracious and did not rush us at all, even though we ended up staying almost 20 mins. past closing time. Pros: food, service Cons: north beach parking more

My Absolute Favorite! 6/23/2005

This is the best restaurant ever! Every single item on the menu, from entrees to desserts are always phenomenal! The service is excellent and the small ""house-like"" atmosphere is very comfortable. I recently moved to Southern California and I still have to visit The House at least 3-5 times a year! It is definitely a restaurant that never disppoints me, everytime is just as satisfying as the last! more

Great taste and portions 3/20/2005

Hang out in North Beach all the time and have never eaten at ""the house"" because it's always so crowded, now I know why. went late Sat night, excellent flat iron steak on top of wasabi noodles with a nice little punch to them, my friend had the skirt steak special, while many plcaes offer this, his was full of flavor, tender and cooked to perfection. Definitely too loud for a romantic dinner, but perfect to start a night out on the town with a friend or two Pros: food Cons: busy, parking, loud more

Bummer 3/18/2005

Waited for half an hour past our reservation, but had a show to go to, so ended up having to go to a tourist trap for dinner because our table still wasn't available. Beware of the wait even after a reservation. more

sooo good 3/6/2005

small place and difficult parking but the food is soo good, especially since it's north beach. waited a little bit even though we had reservations but only about 15 minutes. and the food was worth it! they have a good selection of not so common beers like duvel as well as wine and sake. Pros: food, food, food Cons: parking, not cheap more

Hit or Miss 6/9/2004

The food here is wonderful but the service is hit or miss. The restaurant is always very crowded so your experience may not always be good. The last time we ate here we were served a $70 bottle of WARM wine. They dont have good wine storage so I would be very cautious when ordering wine. Pros: tasty food Cons: , crowded, bad parking more

One of North Beach's best 3/24/2004

This restaurant is relatively unknown to outsiders. the wait staff is very attentive and helpful Food is absolutely delicious. Lots of creativity have been put into this place. I have brought many east bay diners as well out of towners and I have yet to disappoint. If I was going to own a restaurant .. this place would be it! Pros: food more

Excellent food, friendly staff 3/8/2004

Live in North Beach, first time at the House. Absolutely amazing appetizers, wonderful service and even better entrees. The grilled sea bass is to die for. Great food, good price. Can't wait to go back! Pros: Not too pricey, Good crowd, Friendly staff more

A Very Fine House 11/1/2003

Have had lunch at the House several times, started off with the mussel appetizer which was very well done. Main entree was a curry noodle with chicken, substantial and tasty. Overall, everything is reasonably priced and decent, service is good for a casual spot. My one concern is the noise levels due to the bare floor/walls. Half-full the space is very noisy, when totally full, it's very difficult to have any sort of conversation at a large table. Go for the food and go when the House is empty! Pros: Good Asian Fusion, Good Service Cons: Far Too Noisy more

Great fish 8/13/2003

I went there with a friend from Tokyo (and of course, she has a very sophisticated taste for seafood) and we both enjoyed the food. Softcrab tempra was ok, but the white fish we ordered (one of specials of the day) was fantastic. It was thick but very tasty, not dry at all, with wasabi hinted source. Mango tapioca was great too. The place was a bit too noisy and small though. Pros: great food, friendly staff Cons: noisy, small more

Love their crab cakes... 8/6/2003

The best crab cakes! The presentation is pretty impressive, and the crab cakes themselves are different from the norm but are really tasty. The sea bass is pretty good too. The only thing we didn't care for (we tried most of the things on the menu after many visits) is the fried calamari. Would recommend! more

The best 6/2/2003

Amazing food - try the deep fried salmon rolls with the incredibly spicy mustard. Best sea bass in town too. Actually, try anything Lewis the waiter recommends - he's the by far and away the best waiter in town and practically always there. more

Have never been disappointed 4/4/2003

This is our 'take people from out of town' standard. Not too expensive, always great service, always great food. We've never been disappointed by this place. Tres Yummy (very yummy). Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Wine Cons: can't think of any more

Great Food! 8/20/2002

When I first ate here years ago I thought the food was good. Somehow I found myself back at the House recently with some out of town friends and all our entrees were great. The four of us each had something different but everything was so good, forks were going across the table to other plates. I don't understand the bad reviews...Later that evening we were STILL talking about how good dinner was. Cons: small restaurant, noisy more
