After a great experience last time, I made another appointment with Libby, who's fantastic, friendly and really knew what to do with my hair. When I walked in, I was informed that Libby 'no longer worked there' and that they didn't want to honor my appointment, even though the shop was completely empty (no surprise there). The snotty girl at the counter said she called and left a message for me, which is a complete lie, since I have my phone with me all the time. Forget about professionalism, this is flat-out insulting - I can't believe this place is still in business! more

I always had trouble getting my hair colored the right shade of red but ever since I went to Haven and got it colored by Libby it has just as I wanted. Finally I dont have to worry about trying a new salon everytime as my hair is exactly like I want it. The other stylists here are warm and nice as well even if you are not their client. \r They also have a cute garden where you can relax while your hair is processing. And this is right in the middle of Ballard! more

A visit to the stylist is an exciting treat. Don't be caught up in the illusion of grandeur on Haven's website. If I wanted the atmosphere of a walk-in salon I'd have went to one. Rather, I took my time looking up Seattle's top 10 salon list...my faith has since dissipated from that list! \r I waited 15 min past my appt time, which I'd left work early for. Come to find out, my stylist whom happened to be the owner of the place, had been sitting getting her hair done. I was in shock as I watched Sasha ""the owner/stylist"" get up from having her hair casually talked over and styled. Then 15 min LATE stroll over and act as though I'd just walked in the door. I explained to her this was not ok. It was very disrespectful to ask a client to schedule an appt. to then have the appt disregarded as well as personally be disregarded. $80.00 is indeed a treat! A treat that I don't just hand to anyone, specially someone whom hadn't time to simply acknowledge the situation...\r \r Hi, wow it's already 4? I'd hoped to be done before you got here. I'm so sorry. Would you mind waiting while I finish pulling myself together?\r \r Would have gone a long way...at least sugar-coated the situation. I don't have it in me to give Haven a second chance. more

I've seen 3 stylists and they have all done a great job. With my recent experience being a ""clean-up"" job because I went to a local barber that hacked my hair, I have finally concluded that Haven is the place for me! i recently had the pleasure of an appointment with jim at haven salon in ballard. he was genuinely excited to take on my hair and ended up working with and adding to my style in a way that made me extremely happy. jim made the experience far more enjoyable than any other i had gone thru so far with some more up-market (aka. pricey) salons in the seattle area and i wouldnt hesitate directing anyone to his chair. JIm has cut hair in 4 different salons in the years that I've known him, and I've followed him everywhere. He knows how I like my bangs trimmed - and I'm pretty picky. He listens to what I want and follows through, and I have no qualms telling him my opinions because I know he'll do something about it. Since moving to Seattle, I have been on the search for a good stylist. I want it all: a stylish yet work appropriate haircut that doesn't take an hour to look fabulous, and with long hair, this is hard to do creatively. After a long and expensive search all over the city, Haven is where I will go back to. Crysdian performed a miracle on my lack luster 'do. He was really helpful with what he thought would look best, but also took into account my own likes and long term plans for my hair. I don't know what he did, and how he combined all what I told him but the result is great, and for the first time in my life, I have a haircut that I love even after I've left the salon for a while. One other cool thing about my experience was the space, the Salon is so cool!! There is a beautiful garden in the back of the Salon, I can't wait for Summer appointments. Lastly, they play great upbeat music. I followed the owner, Chrysdian, from his central Ballard location. Not only are his skills exponetially better than those of my prior top stylists (Honolulu's everchanging ""avante guarde"" & Dallas' premiere talent with Toni & Guy's top brass!). I started here in Seattle at Gary Manuel, (good boot camp but you immediately adjust your hair in your car and know your work is cut out for you), Vain (the only true vanity once you leave are those of the colorists laughing as they reinvented a metallic orange on your locks meant only for a Britney Spears BACK-UP dancer wig) and the basic good training cut of the "" I will never do corporate"" rebels of Spex Salon, who I must admit had some decent yet unenthusiastic talent. At Haven, not only do you get the experienced talent you expect at a salon, but you recieve genuine and HONEST feedback no matter how hard the truth is going to hurt you! ( I wanted to go brunette, Mr. Chrysdian was quick to grab samples and show the error of my erratic thinking.. he explained it with a wry smile that only a fortune-teller could express- I stand corrected and happy!) Visit Sarah Kahn at Haven and you won't be disappointed! I have been going to her for years and she has always done an excellent job with my hair. Not only does she do amazing cuts & colors but her insight into what kind of style will look best on me is what I really appreciate. She's fun, upbeat and always makes you feel comfortable. This place is a hidden treasure! The atmosphere is chill and has a gem of a location in Ballard with tons of parking. And MONICA is so rad! My hair was kinda blah when I first went to see her. She told me right away that she wanted to make my hair more fit my look and personality, which is tattoos and rock & roll. She helped me push my boundaries with the cut and it turned out so rockin! And the color she suggested was just perfect! One of the best parts about it was that is NATURAL! She achieved a vibrant red that still hasn't faded with her plant based color. Not that I'm a hippy, but it makes a huge difference when it come to the health of my hair, its less damaging. I got second looks on the street and compliments from strangers, which is always a good sign! On top of being the sweetest stylist without the attitude, she'll be my stylist for life! Sarah Kahn is the ONE to go to! Sarah has been doing my hair for four years and after a lifetime of ho-hum hair, my hair finally looks great. She makes me feel comfortable and more than that, beautiful. She is quick, professional and a lot of fun. One thing I love is the delicious scalp massage she gives with each cut and color. She has the knack of both listening to my preferences and coming up with creative genius when it comes to new ideas for my hair.\r All my friends say my hair has never looked better!\r Go in and try her out. Monica has been doing my hair for the past 3 years and I am so happy she found Haven and Haven found her! This salon is beautiful and very conveniently located to my house. Monica is wonderful at managing my thick wavy hair and coloring it the perfect shade of blond. I like the fact that she gives an essential oil scalp massage prior to any haircut and that she only uses natural and organic products and hair color. I always look forward to our appointments and have never been disappointed. Shes got talent. After a coworker got her hair straightened by Tara, I had to do it too. Her hair was so straight, no frizz, and she was so happy. Now I am too! Tara was great, it took 4 hours, but they actually went by really quickly. My hair is better than I imagined it would be. Tara was easy to get along with, and I gotto have a glass of wine too. If your sick of your curl, and sick of spending hours straightening it, see Tara!! Cons: There is a lot of construction near the salon, so it took a 2nd drive around the block to find a spot. more

***Note*** Tara has moved to Source salon in Ballard. \r \r I had been going to my hairstylist forever. I needed something new, that he wasn't giving me. My daughter just moved to Ballard, so I thought I would look online for a salon there. I saw the reviews Tara has and thought I would give her a shot. I am so glad I did. I wanted to go lighter and have less hair. Mine is thick and there is a lot of it. She was able to get my hair a lot shorter without making me look bushy, (which is what usually happens) and got me to the perfect shade. Not too light for me to have dark roots, but light enough to brighten me up. She talked me into changing my bangs, and my coworkers have not only complemented me, but copied me too. more

Haven is a great salon. Super cute and comfortable. My stylist Tara is the best. She knows what she is talking about and always has great advice and knowledge if I ever have any questions. She will give you the best haircut and color you have ever had.\r She cares about her clients so much that she will work with you and your schedule to make an appointment. I went to Haven's to get my haircut and colored last week. Tara, my stylist, did an outstanding job. I wasn't sure what style I wanted, so she gave me some options to choose from. What I really liked was her willingness to offer suggestions and not just let me pick and pray for the best. The same can be said for my hair coloring. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with a full color or just some highlights. She told me the pros and cons of both. I went for the highlights and they look very natural. She is great and I would highly recommend her to anyone! more

All I can say is I have found my new salon. I just moved to ballard and didn't want to drive downtown. I'd heard good things about Haven. I got an appointment with Tara and am really happy. She really understood what I wanted, even though I wasn't being very specific. I left feeling really uplifted. I have been a client of Tara's for nearly a year and have loved her. Her cuts give my fine limp hair volume! Her idea to put a 3rd highlight color in for depth has gotten me a ton of compliments, and her move to Haven is a good one. The place is as great as she is.
