This was a favorite place for fried shrimp in the 50s. We recently were in the city again and bought some. They were as delicious as ever. However, they've gotten chintzy and now charge for the hot sauce, which came with the shrimps years ago! They certainly charge enough. I think 2 TBLS. of sauce could be included. more

My family and I have been going to Hagens for 30+ years at least. We never have been disapointed with anything that has been served (better said, passsed over the counter). We have brought our catches to be smoked we have ordered everything from their famous fried shrimp to their smoked sturgeon to their hush puppies (corn fritters). The only few disapointing things that I can say about Hagens just so happens no to be their fault; insane wait on Friday and Saturday nights and because there is NO compitition the prices are steadly rising. My brother and his friends started talking about this place many years ago, so I wanted to check it out. I'm glad I did. You can't eat inside, so you get everything to go. During nice weather, there are a couple small tables and chairs outside the store. They are famous on the Northwest side for their fresh fish. You can buy shrimp, catfish, any other variety of fish you can think of, as well as fried veggies by the pound. They also sell cole slaw, macaroni and potato salads, as well as a small selection of snack food items and condiments. I love the shrimp and cod pieces, as well as the salads. They are excellent. If you are a fisherman, you can bring in your catch and they will have it smoked for you. The best thing is that they are NOT "the man." They are an indie store and they deserve our attention. more

They have wide selection of seafood to choose from & offer raw and or cooked items for your convience. They also offer smoked fish,which we love to buy and for those who have their own fresh fish they caught,they do offer to smoke yours for you.Whether your looking for a snack or dinner this place aims to please..Service is great and prompt. Plenty of parking on the street. more
