This restaurant is not on the upscale level. \r \r 1. Let me start with the valet: they charge $10 to park, then they park your car on the city street, taking up the free spots, forcing the other people to park in their $10 lot. Scandelous\r \r 2. Cover charge: $20 to get in. Ridiculous, this is too much for a Hip Hop club.\r \r 3. Gratuity: They charge a 20% gratuity. Are you serious this is not Vic & Anthony, Flemings or Perry's Steak house. Mind you they don't tell you about the %20, you find out when you get your bill. \r \r 4. The drinks: Can you say weak Polly Pop. You expect a nice drink at an upscale restaurant. I had so much cranberry juice in my vodka and cran it cleaned out my kidneys. Needless to say I only had one drink.\r \r 5. Music: The band was OK. The DJ was good if you like Hip Hop all night. No R&B straight Hip Hop all night.\r \r 6. Dress Code: straight Hip Hop Hoochie Mama attire. Not upscale at all. \r \r I've been to Grooves when they first open and it was nothing like this. The service was slow but the atmosphere was much better. Grooves should do better. Stop your valet from charging people then parking their cars on the street; If you want to charge $20 to get in you need to change your image because as of now you are a $10 cover charge club; If you want to charge 20% gratuity you should inform your guest in advance, but this is still too high; the drinks are entirely to week, I'm not suggesting you get people drunk but make a nice drink; If you want to be upscale the music should be a mixture; If you want to be upscale the dress code should be followed. more

This place has it all! Two super swank bars and a club with a killer sound system . They even have a NFL Players and Celebrities wondering around. Best of all they have lots of bartenders and serving capacity, so you're not waiting around for drinks when you want them. more

Been waiting for another premier spot to open up downtown after the old Grooves closed in 2010...GROOVES OF HOUSTON IS IT. Excellent sound system. Great layout. Everyone who works there has been super polite and nice to deal with. Having been there a few times already, I definitely intend to make this a regular stop for the foreseeable future.??And a good club isn't a great club unless they have great LIVE talent playing regularly and in the year this place has been open, the talent has been nothing short of amazing. I'll be a regular! more

My new favorite lounge//nightclub (insert a little heart) A totally balanced dynamic, and on the nights when both levels are open, it's fun to go back and forth for the energy/ambiance change: -INSIDE is 2 bars with plenty of space and comfortable furniture for sipping, lounging, and conversing. Music varies from soul classics to hip-hop to the occasional light music. It's perfect for sipping a carefully-proportioned martini or a house-concocted cocktail by the best bartender in Houston Nikki (if you're feeling stiff, try her Darlyn Nikki Shot or a yummy Grooveycane). They have a great new taco/tamale Saturday night where they offer a promotion of $2 tacos outside on the way out. -NIGHTCLUB - the nightclub has the best sound I've heard in HTown yet! Totally makes me feel like I'm in a club in New York. Their tables are normally sold out depending on which party they've booked for the evening, so it's a good idea to plan ahead an reserve a table before the night of. Definitely a lot of well-mixed music and they have live music on Saturdays Overall, the crowd is great (edgy, urban, attractive) and the ambiance is fabulous- definitely classy but not pretentious, which is difficult to achieve. They've only been open a year so I can't wait to see what comes from this much-needed new spot as they perfect their technique. I'm a regular, for sure xx more

If you want to take your ghetto to a whole new level, Grooves is the place. I hate to even write a review like this because this place used to be nice. I'm not sure what happened but my friends and I went on a saturday night around 10pm. Service was awful, two girls outside who take your money made us wait 2 minutes while they set up a late night hook-up dates with some guys who were just standing around (non-employees). Expect to pay $20 to park or you can park for free under hwy 59 and walk a quarter mile across a dark multi-lane highway with vagrants greeting you, also $20 to get in, and $20 per drink, DONT NOT USE YOUR CARD, I was told in order to use my card you had to purchase $50 in drinks or it won't work? WTF! I mean, if I'm gonna toss up $200 for the night, at least have some CLASS, to give me my money's worth! Then there's what looks like a poor attempt at a VIP section- wannabe-hip hop-like-video-entourage-on stage. While a HORRIBLE DJ attempts to gain the crowd's attention with his 9' laptop onstage. That guys needs to go back to his moms' basement and DJ class 101 again! He actually said "" this song is for your white friends"" People where throwing there hands up as he attempted to find the right genre of music for his crowd. OMG H-town just becuase a place charges you a $20 cover charge does not make it classy! People bring your $200 dollars to a nice resturant with dinner and dancing! There are several 5 star hotels here, who will top this attempt at class! GROOVES get it together!! more

THE OFFICIAL GROOVES REVIEW The Good: Food: Excellent with good-sized of the portions. Excellent steak, amazing salmon, and outstanding crab cakes. Service: The service at Grooves is good. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and very helpful. All in all, the service here is very good. Atmosphere: Grooves is hard to beat with its combination of fun ambiance, music and friendly service. The Bad: Noise. It can get quite noisy in this particular restaurant. In all fairness, this should come as no surprise considering the live music and popular dance floor. If you are looking for a quiet evening I recommend you go elsewhere. Prices are on the middle of the road side, but the quality of the food and strong drinks is worth it. The Final Verdict: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GROOVES for the great atmosphere, the wonderful food, live music and dancing. more

I had a birthday party here, the place still rocks, and has some really fresh djs who don't play the usual crap. Get a booth if you can and watch the hipsters pass by. They have a Friday Happy Hour that will leave you in heaven. more

I am absolutely addicted to this club. I haven't been to another club in Houston close to being as fun. It's really easy to find not hard to miss as soon as you see the Grooves sign you know oh there it is! Just valet park it's only $10. Depending on what time you get there the line can be long but that's only when people are trying to get in at midnight, but when there is a free cover there's no line. But even when there is a line it's pretty fast. The bartenders have always been nice & they make strong drinks maybe they get the job done. The dance floor is packed by 10:30p. They have a stage to dance on if you're too tipsy I would advise you don't even attempt to get up there people have fell off hahahaha. The people there are laid back, and willing to actually have a decent conversation with you. The bathrooms really spacious. If you ever plan on going to one of there for a birthday party make sure you reserve a table because they go fast. more

This place is amazing!! They serve gourmet salmon which was outstanding! I went with a group of people. We went in for dinner and stayed the rest of the evening. The place is beautiful along with the staff and crowd. Everyone was very friendly. This is my new favorite spot. more

11/30/2010\r \r I was there Thanksgiving Eve for a Birthday celebration, I don't like to use my card because I don't trust that the charges will be correct. I bought 1 alcoholic beverage $9.00 on my visa; I tippied my waitress $2.00 in cash. I'm reviewing my bank account on-line, why did they charge me an additional $2.00 and how? I strached through the invoice to show that I only want to be charged $9.00 so they just took my money. so I end up being charged $13.00 for a vodka cranberry! Is that stealing? Did they just take what they wanted? Gratuity? I tipped my waitress with cash...the remainder of the night I drank cranberry juice which was paid with cash, they are too upidity in that place...Everyone wants to be important and glamorous. I hope the Birthday folk find another venue for their party next year. This is the second time I've attended this annual Birthday Party Red Carpet affair...next year cousin please find another venue. Unless of course the ""associates"" are retrained, I believe in second chances, but trust and believe Grooves is NOT Top Notch! Runnining around with your nose in the air does not make you better than me...it still takes my money and other customers to make it happen. Hello! listen to the people. more

Wow this Black owned bizz really brings you to the GHETTO! from the top managers to the staff. no one and i mean no one has the skills to be incharge of this place. no managers are never there when they are open. i mean come on, we waited 25mins. for change at the bar. they had to go to the gas station because no managers were there! one of the staff told us the manager was there it was about time for the club to jump off. she came in running around like she was busy. we to speak to her, now we looking at this girl tell her we had a few promblems. they walked to the back and the girl came back and told us that she was very busy at the time. not even 10mins. later she`s on stage drinking! WHAT!! the CEO AT WORK CLUBING & DRINKING!! DAM SHAME! more

Our nite last nite..... Our very first visit to Grooves. We arrive for a Birthday party for my wife's cousin, we got there around Happy Hour. After speaking to the hostess we find out there is no reservation for a very large party.(very odd). We have the hostess seat us at a table. I have never been somewhere where I have felt so crowded. People are standing all around us as we sit, they might as well of been sitting with us. We wait 45 mins to an hour for the waitress to cash out. But this is what really takes the cake. We had decided we were leaving, as we were waiting for our waitress, a hostess comes up to us and says ""the table we werfe sitting at was reserved for 9:30 and the couple who reserved it had arrived. she then preceeds to tell us that she was about to sit them, basically, we need to get up and remove ourselves from the table now. As we are leaving I tell the hostess i have ever been anywhere in my life this has happened, she then tells us with attitude, we can stay at our table and that we dont have to leave.......Make up your mind.......the music was very nice, the atmosphere was lovely, however the menu had maybe six things and expensive as a 5 star restaraunt and the quality of McDonalds in Mexico. The waitstaff pay no attention to their customers. (should of done a dine and dash) the overall experience I would say is a star and a half maybe two. and that is only because 97.9 had the dancefloor jumping and the ambiance of the club as far as setting was very nice. My recommendation for Grooves would be Fire the staff, hire someone with an educational level beyond a 3d grade spelling bee, and get a menu that actually represents an upscale club. (meaning how do you order Habenero Wings and they are not even HOT)\r if you are going out for dancing only and plan on going to the bar yourself to get your drinks and you like a staff of ghetto fabulous women that are standing around dancing instead of working, this is the SPOT. The first time I went here, I had a horrible experience. First of all, you either pay $5 to self park or $10 to valet. That's kind of not fair. I had gone out for a little girls night with a couple other girls. We could not find a single table to sit at. All the dinner tables were reserved and the bar tables were all taken. After about an hour of standing, we finally managed to get a table. After about another hour, we finally got some water. After waiting for about 30 minutes and still no offer to take our food order, I had to ask the bartender to take our order. It was just horrible, horrible customer service. \r Call me stupid, but I went a second time with my husband for a dinner date. I thougth making a reservation the second time around would be better. But after we were seated and waited for about 10 minutes, we experienced no help once again. No one came to offer us water or any drinks or take our order. On top of that, the music was blasting so loud, my husband and I could not even hear each other speak. It was only 8:30 and the DJ wanted the place to sound like a club while people were just walking in for dinner. I do not recommend Grooves,especially if you want to dine. me & some friends came to grooves last week for a party. the food was good. some of my friends order dinner they did'n have the chicken pasta on the menu but the guy with the dreads said he would make it. to make a long story short we ended up eating off her plate and order like 3 more pastas. my server was Mary! she looked like she was not going to be able to handle the order but she did a outstanding job and the cook with dreads. but this is not the first time we heard he can cook! I will recommend you guys to my friends. more

I went to Grooves after a group of friends decided they were going and I decided to tag along. I called before and asked for a manager. I spoke with Calvin and Brooklyn and together they answered all of my questions **I wrote them down so I had an extensive list** They were extremely patient and helpful. When we came in that night I paid the cake fee for my cake, they had already explained because they were a restaurant they didn't allow any outside food. I pre-ordered appetizers for my group to prevent everyone from having to order entrees. After dinner I asked for a manager and was greated by Calvin whom I thanked for making our party a night to remember. Afterwords when our bill came he offered us complimentary drink cards to use on our next visit. \r \r Even when dinner was over we were able to stay at the table as long as we continued to order. Our waitress was the best and kept us updated all night on the status of our food and drinks. \r \r Everyone has different experinces as I read through the reviews but I just wanted to share my experience. I had a birthday party there on Nov 13, 2009. I had a very good experience. The service was good. My reservations went well also. The staff went well and beyond the call of duty. Our server was named Michael. He catered to me and my guest with 5 star service. My drinks kept coming and my food for my guest was off the chain. I enjoyed the music by 97.9 they had us on the floor the whole time. I'm looking forward to giving another party there. Those who couldn't make my party you really missed out!!!!!!!!!!! WELL,WERE DO I START. THE LAST TIME I VISIT GROOVES IT WAS SAD! WE HAD A PARTY AND THE SERVICE WAS SO BADD WE DID`N WANT ANYMORE OF THE FOOD BECAUSE EVERYTHING WAS JUST BAD! THE PRICING OF FOOD WAS SO HIGH. NOW WE DID`N MINE PAYING IF THE FOOD WAS GOOD BUT IT WAS HORRIBLE. TWO WEEKS AGO MY FRIEND INVITED ME TO HER PARTY AT GROOVES. I CAME BUT WAS NOT GOING TO EAT AT ALL! BUT I`VE TASTED SOME OF THE FOOD AND WONDER WHAT HAPPEN!! THE FOOD IS 99% BETTER. WHAT EVER CHANGES WERE MADE WAS THE BEST! WE ENJOYED THE NIGHT,FOOD AND DRINKS. THANX GROOVES!
