Best

this was my first club scene and the energy inside was so powerful it was exciting, i really loved it

Worst

i came here for a Halloween party. OMG. forget it. the line was huge. the most importamt - we preordered entrance tickets online, but when we came overthere- they told us these ar...

i love greenhouse!!! 1/28/2009

i go to greenhouse with my friends once a week and i love it! the people that talk negative about this venue are obviously to poor or cheap to be going here. and if the bouncers are making you pop mad bottles that obviously means that youre way to ugly to be in there, because me and my friends never have a problem getting in and we only pop 2 bottles.. i love the crowd, the dj's the bouncers, and the bathroom lady shes so nice.. greenhouse is my favorite party of the week and i go out everyday. Pros: the music Cons: its a little small more

waste of time 1/25/2009

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE DOORMAN'S PITCH TO PURCHASE A $500 TABLE MINIMUM TO GET IN. LITTLE DID HE KNOW THAT WE WERE THERE FOR A PARTY AND WHEN OUR HOST CAME OUT, HE LET US IN. CAN YOU SAY CONMAN? After having to check our coats ($4/coat) and marching into the basement lined with dead leaves, we were greeted with empty tables and stuck up bartenders and waitresses. The music was decent but standing around watching strobelights was not what we had in mind. We left about 20 minutes later. The drinks were overpriced and we already had a bad taste in our mouths from the doorman trying to con us into buying a table. I'm ok with spending a few hundred at a place that's worth the scene. I'm no stingy partier but when you do it in a way that's deceitful, it just makes me think you're desperate. I didn't want to give them any more of my money so we left. DO NOT even bother with this club. Completely overrated and there is nothing green or eco-"friendly" about this place. Pros: Bathrooms were nice Cons: Watch out for the Rick Fox look-alike doorman, especially when the first words are "Table Minimum" because there isn't one. more

this has to be the worst place ever 1/25/2009

i am never ever going back to greenhouse. if you're not white, expect a difficult time getting in even if you are on the guest list. and expect $15 watered-down cocktails in small glasses, so-so music, and bouncers who tell you not to block the sidewalk (still not sure how i was blocking the sidwalk when there was NO foot traffic there whatsoever). oh wow, i never hated a place so much... Pros: absolutely none Cons: rude bouncers, bad drinks, horrible atmosphere more

Worthless place! 1/25/2009

when i got there with four friends, there was NO line, but the rude bouncers told us that the club was packed and that we would have to pay for a 500 dollar table service in order to get in - for just ONE bottle. we were there for a birthday, and the bouncers ruined the night for the bday person because although there was a guest list already in place, they still tried to charge ridiculous prices for tables and gave everyone on the guest list a hard time getting into the club. the kicker is this: the place was completely empty, and a table there is much less than 500 bucks a pop. we heard later that the bouncers there get a cut of the up-sell of tables. looks like they came up with five hundred dollars for my friends and I because we had five people with us. the music and the crowd? great - if you like the eurotrash scene. The DJ messed a few times where the music would stop for minutes at a time and then suddenly start up again, which shocked a friend so much that her straw fell out of her overly priced drink. this is NYC, people. great nightlife and awesome places to hang out are a DIME A DOZEN. I've been to a LOT of places, and this one is the worst I've been to. they use the whole "organic" thing in order to act like they're so posh and trendy and that its the place to be. seriously, not worth the hype. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Underwhelming and forgettable 1/20/2009

I visited this establishment twice. On one occasion, I entered with my party and had a few drinks here, only to find the music atrocious and the drinks overpriced. I did enjoy the green-themed decor, which is a nice change of place and reminds me of some of the nicer places I've been to in London and Hong Kong. The appeal of the aesthetics wore thin very quickly, though, and found myself out of there within an hour. The second occasion I had of visiting Greenhouse was even worse. A friend of mine caught some buzz and wanted to meet some friends there, so we went, and waited in the cold for about half an hour only to give up to head elsewhere. I have no gripe with door policies, but this doorman was ruder than most, and whoever was pulling his strings that night insisted on a 2-bottle minimum for entry (which didn't include a table reservation). This, when it was nearly empty inside, was unacceptable. Give the place a shot and enjoy the eco-themed interior, but don't waste any time if you have trouble at the door. The meatpacking district is just a few steps away, just head there for a good time. more

THE WORST 1/14/2009

this is by far the snoobiest, rude, pretentious place I've EVER been to in the city and let me tell you, i've been to lots of places. If this place does not go out of business in 2009, i'd be surprised with ther service and raging attitude. This place should NOT be an option of any kind for anyone looking to have a remotely decent time out. Please RUN AWAY from this place. I beg you. more

Great spot 1/14/2009

Greenhouse is Great!! Those who were turned away were obnoxious and drunk underage females. As for those of us who were chic and mature (21+ and respectable), the doormen let us in without a problem, and to top it off they were also nice and funny. Didn't have a problem with the staff inside either. Maybe there was a change in employment or something because everyone was great. The decor was fabulous...upstairs lots of lights and crystals, downstairs decorated with what seemed to be lots of well-preserved green foliage. One downside was that I recently went on one of their off nights. It was suggested that Monday or Tuesday are the most entertaining days of the week at Greenhouse. Will be back soon!! Pros: Nice doormen, great decor more

Beautiful club, love the concept - no door issues 1/11/2009

I've been to Greenhouse a bunch of times already and it never has disappointed me or my friends. I'm not sure what experience the other clubgoers had with the doorpeople, but I've always found them to be cordial and fun. The inside interior is unlike any club I've seen in NYC (though I admit, I did initally think the rainbow lights were cheesy) - and the downstairs is fun and chill. Highly recommended, especially when DJ Elli (Eli?) is spinning? Pros: Great crowd, fun music Cons: Rainbow lights might seem campy more

tight door well worth the try 1/11/2009

the door and wait may be long at greenhouse, but let me tell you the pretention is left outside. i was with 3 of my hot friends and even though we didn't know anyone there we were let right in. anway the sound and lights are amazing and the drinks are strong we danced til alomst 5!!! loved the sparklers all over the place and the crowd was the best i have seen in years...i even saw two big celebrities (i am not one to name drop). will def be back soon! Pros: music, people, decor, light Cons: tight door more

Visually cool spot, but lame crowd and the smoking is awful 12/27/2008

There's nothing green about this greenhouse- with its fake foliage and thick clouds of smoke. The crowd was painfully awful on a saturday night. The staff was fully pushy. The picture above cannot be the same spot i was at. This place is much more cramped and not too many places to stand and hang comfortably. The smoking is gross. Would def not go back unless I had to for a friend's party and DEF not on a saturday night more

I beg you not to go! 12/26/2008

Let me start by saying, the place is beauitful, the sound system is amazing and the music was slammin. That said, I regret going and wasting my money, energy and time on this awful place! Before going I read some reviews on the rude staff... boy were they right, and then some. Just a couple of tidbits to give you an idea of the experience you should be expecting: 1. I paid for my ticket in advance because it was a Christmas eve organized party. The staff had people that prepaid stand online for over 2 hours, while letting people who had not prepurchased tickets in, since those people had yet to fork over their cash. What a smart business decision. Good will towards men - yeah right! 2. Inside, staffers kept coming up to us and yelling at us to move because we were blocking "walkthroughs". At one point, a sleezy staffer came up to me and told me to get moving, 2 seconds later he yells at me "second time I'm talling you! Let's go!" and makes some rude gestures. 3. I know a lot of people were frustrated with the $50 minimum for credit cards, especially since the bartenders didn't notify people of this before taking their cards. There are plenty of beautiful, fun, fancy, and good clubs in NYC, go to any of them, just not Greenhouse. Pros: Beautiful, good music - neither of which are worth it! Cons: Rude staff, rude staff, rude staff. Will ruin your evening. more

Nothing environmental about this night club 12/14/2008

First of all greenhouse? There is nothing special about this place. Environmental unorganized cluster .....k no practical separation between tables, not a place where you can enjoy your night at all! from the minute you walk in the door the host hustles you and judge you on how much YOU HAVE TO SPEND! The waitresses don?t tell you about the added gratuity so you get double charged and to top it all off I never saw her. The worst service, you just can?t do that to paying customers, who wants to be hustled. I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE. The 2nd level basement smelled horrible must be the fake leaves layered with dust Fake leaves Fake place. Pros: Vegas Touch Cons: Bottle Minimum more

Just another NYC club with nasty bouncers 12/13/2008

The place has a decent ambiance, good music..... but it is nothing that you haven't seen before. The place has the most rude bouncers that you will find in the city. Come here if you want to be treated like a second class citizen. Save your cab fare and stay in Chelsea. Pros: Good music, decent decour Cons: The bouncers at the door more

Worst Place EVER.... 12/13/2008

I am not one to write a review but this place was so bad that I felt I needed to warn everyone. Rude Staff not a fun place...trust me its a waste of time. Too bad because I love the concept. Go Green just don't go there!!! Pros: Leaving and never going back Cons: Everything more

Fun space, decorations and layout. Snail-pace bartender in basement. 12/7/2008

Was there for a party last night. Since the organizers brought their own DJs, the music was actually not "meatpacking / chelsea" as others mentioned. It was really good and handpicked for the vibe of the party. The layout was fun and the crowd was absolutely outrageous. Only problem I had was the unbelievably slow bartender in the basement. She was completely unable to multi-task. Also unable to monitor the flow of who was at the bar first, which led to some very angry people in my group. It is truly a disappointment that such a fun party could be brought down because you waste all your time in line because Greenhouse hired a bartending school intern to serve the entire downstairs space. Every move was so slow and deliberate and it took me on one trip to the bar about 25 minutes waiting just to get a beer. Pros: Great space Cons: Inexperienced bartender in the basement more

Quel Horribile 12/3/2008

The people who work at Greenhouse are criminals, and every thing that occurs in the place is filthy. I was shaken down in the ladies room and so were other friends of mine. We are accustomed to tipping in restrooms (like a buck or two each time) but these people are animals and wacked out. It was scary and strange to buy a table and get basically hounded every few minutes about how long you were taking to drink your $600 bottle of vodka. What a dump. I have been going out for over ten years and this is the first time I have commented. I know it costs a lot but this place is an absolute joke. It will be closed within a month if anyone knows what a good club should be, or if cops show up. I cannot believe how embarrassing it is to think there is any environmental benefit to a hole like this. eeew Cons: Overly Dirty Bathrooms, Harrassing staff, terrible clientele, awful to bring guests more

great place 11/29/2008

in response to the last review.. i thought "pretentious door service, expensive drinks" and "the same typical club beats that you can hear in chelsea or meatpacking" was a good thing :) Pros: pretentious door service, expensive drinks Cons: is wearing my mink scarf here considered eco friendly? i hope so :) more

Another nightclub (this time the fad = Green!) 11/23/2008

As the name states this new nightclub is purported to be made of 100% recycled material and uses clean technology etc. but aside from that hype the interior looks like the forest from Pan's Labrynth and the music is the same typical club beats that you can hear in chelsea or meatpacking -- the location is HORRIBLE -- near the entrance to the Holland Tunnel - which is a hike to get to and there is nothing else nearby so good luck hailing a taxi. The crowd was typical wannabe and bridge & tunnel inside although the lineup outside and bouncers with clipboards would lead you to believe otherwise. All in all if you're in the neighborhood (technically SoHo..) definitely give it a try but I wouldn't spend the $10 cab in each direction and stick to the mainstays. Pros: green eco-friendly theme Cons: out of the way location, pretentious door service, expensive drinks more

Greenhouse is New York's First Eco-friendly Multi-functional event space, perfect for events & parties of all sizes

Owner Message

This SoHo Event Space is New York's first Eco-friendly destination, featuring a two level event space that can cater to corporate parties, private events, listening parties, holiday parties, bar/bat mitzvah, & other events.

This New York City Event Space is New York City's first L.E.E.D. registered Eco-friendly Event Space. This 2 floor, 6,000 square foot event space is built from recycled or recyclable materials; and has an environmentally conscious construction & design. Each floor can be booked separately or combined.

Among Greenhouse's most spectacular attributes is the transparent ceiling fixture, comprised of over 5,000 individually hung crystals, which is designed to emulate a rolling landscape & the bars which are comprised of clear recycled glass panorama designs.

Editorial
  • Jon B. (of Guesthouse and Home) puts a politically correct twist on the New York nightlife scene at this 6,000-square-foot bi-level club, located near the base of the Holland Tunnel. Five-thousand crystals dangle from the ceiling, while lush natural scenes peek out from the recycled glass bars. Bamboo floors and leafy wall coverings complete the heady look, giving Greenhouse an almost trippy "Alice in Wonderland" vibe. Upstairs, house music blares as club-goers pour bottles from the comfort of reserved tables. The downstairs bar area boasts a more traditional lounge. Both have VIP sections.

Hits: The downstairs lounge is where it's at. Low ceilings, perimeter seating and a great soundtrack of mostly old-school hip-hop provide a more intimate, relaxed atmosphere than the clubby scene that dominates the upstairs.

Misses: Although it seems that everyone in Hollywood has gone green, don't expect to mingle with celebs here unless there's a private party. It's generally the same crowd that hangs in the MePa District.
