Rude staff & bad promoters 3/1/2009

We were going to celebrate a bachlorette party at Greenhouse -- we had used a promoter to book us a restaurant and bar for the event. A LOT of money was going to be spent on the whole night to ensure we had VIP access and that the bride had a perfect night. When we arrived at Greenhouse not only were they rude to the group of us (especially the door guys/girls), but they had given our VIP table away and offered us a TINY table downstairs, which was so packed no one could even move. For all the money we were going to spend and all the time it took to plan the night, the promoter and ALL the staff should have treated us like true VIPs. We left and went to another club where we were treated very well and they did everything in their power to ensure we had a good night, which is how Greenhouse should have been! Pros: Nice decor Cons: Everything else more

HOT SPOT 2/19/2009

I went here the other night and had a great time. It was just me and my boy (we both live on the UWS) and we had no problems with anyone there. I just read through all these reviews and don't get all the haters!!! Lol. I'm totally confused. The place was great, there were a bunch of good-looking people, and the music was good, too. The door guys are jerks, but that doesn't bother me. I've been going out in the city for years now, so I expect it. They aren't there to kiss up. The staff was friendly and aside from the smoking (which the management seems to be actively trying to control by telling people to put their cigs out.) I also found the crowd diverse, older, and upscale, so like I said, I don't get what these people are talking about. I highly reccomend this place. Check it out. Pros: good looking people, good music Cons: the door and the smoking more

Race Matters 2/17/2009

It was quite sad to see how white the crowd was last night. From what I remember, NYC is not the midwest. Jon B needs to find some bouncers who are race blind to get into the place if he wants this place to last. Bouncers should be arrogant and pretentious.. but the there was this tall white man (prob around 6 foot 4 inches) whith a bad accent who thought he owned the place (he didn't.) When I was in line, he made it a point to turn away blacks and browns by mumbling "you are not welcome." It was quite depressing. Like many of the reviewers have mentioned before, the inside was packed, but didn't really have a dance floor and had 0 diversity. And apparently much like some of the high end clubs in the city, you should feel free to smoke away. Nobody cares. Pros: Smokers can rejoice Cons: Race matters more

Dishonest and Low-Class Club 2/17/2009

Last Thursday evening I purchased four cosmopolitans from the main bar. When I closed the tab (at 12:30 - an early night) the bartender charged an additional sum for placing them in a normal glass and added an automatic tip (surprising given that it was a bar tab and not bottle service). I am very easy going, so I just signed and made a smiley face next to the tip. Upon review of my credit card - Greenhouse added an additional 30%! Three calls later to management, simply to report the moral dishonestly of the bartender - I finally got a copy of my receipt with my handwriting. They did in fact inflate the price! This should not happen and patrons should be wary and check their credit cards. Several of the prior reviews were written by management addressing previous complaints. Beyond the dishonesty (which alone is reason to go elsewhere) the club reeks of smoke, the music is too loud and not well mixed, and the crowd is lacking (read homogenous meatpacking with little class or substance). It is a shame that the club prides itself on being 'environmental' - there are many smaller venues that have organic liquors, great music and tasteful patrons (not the ho-hum promoter land, bridge/tunnel, daddy-paid for my Louis Vuitton but I choose to pair it with my Forever 21 dress sort that are at Greenhouse haha). The crowd is self-important with nothing to back it up. If you are looking for diversity, beautiful people or genuinely honest staff - this is not the place for you. Pros: Coat check woman was very pleasant. Cons: Dishonest staff, Tacky crowd, Sketchy promoters, Smoke, Music - JUST GO ELSEWHERE more

Had a great time here 2/16/2009

I went to this place last Friday with a bunch of my boys. We bought bottles and sat in the main room upstairs. The music was pretty good and there were tons of cute girls there. Our waitress was pretty cute, too. The smoke was annoying, but not unbearable. Yeah, the door guys were rude, but we expect nothing less in NYC. We got in, we spent money and had a great time. We would go back again and probably will this Friday. Pros: cute girls, good music Cons: the door more

Always a fun night out... 2/16/2009

Fist of all, I neither work for the club nor am I in any way associated with anyone who does. I have been to Greenhouse several times and it has always been extremely pleasent and fun, every time we pulled up in a cab a bouncer was there to open the cab door for us, hold an umbrella over our heads when it was raining and either let us in right away or politely ask us to wait for a moment till they accomodated the people who had arrived prior to us. I am not a model, neither am I particularily important I'd say, I have went with different groups of people, different races, genders, backgrounds etc. and we never encountered any problems at the door. It is needless to say that we dress appropriately and are polite to the doorstaff as well. If people who are dressed like bridge and tunnel trash yell at the bouncers because one of their wasted, all-out-there friends is not being let in and therefore the whole group does not get past the door, then take out their anger online the next day, that can hardly be viewed as an objective review. If somebody insist on making a "cash deal" at the door to let you in, that is a very obvious hint that they simply don't want you there and they expect you to leave offendedly and never come back. If that is what you do, they did their job. Great club, great mix of music, fun interior and enough space to dance the night away. Not recommended for people who do not know how to act, demand special treatment because they came all the way from Jersey and have their prettiest 'forever 21' dress on. Pros: Friendly and fast staff, great mixed crowd, good music, spacious Cons: None more

Worth checking out 2/16/2009

I went here last Friday with a bunch of my girls. We danced, we drank and we had a blast!!! The place is gorgeous, the music is pretty good and I didn't notice the smoke. I thought it was a great spot! The doormen were rude but really hot, so we didn't mind the attitude - Lol! We will def. be frequenting this place a lot more. I like it as much as Pink Elephant : ) Def. worth checking out... Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

RUDE DOOR MEN! BIGGEST WAIST OF TIME; DO NOT BOTHER!!! 2/15/2009

So it was my fiances 21st birthday on Valentines day. We decided to check out the Greenhouse once we arrived the doormen were extremely rude and were trying to make cash deals in order to get in. They were asking for a minimum of (3) Bottles at a minimum price of $350.00 per bottle. That was not the issue, the issue was the doormen they were extremely rude and snobbish for no apparent reason. I bet those guys could not even afford a night there. There are plenty of clubs in New York City where you can go and have a great time. They come a dime a dozen. Pros: NONE! Cons: EVERYTHING! more

worth the hassle 2/15/2009

Greenhouse has one of the toughest doors in town, but it is deinitely worth a try. yes the doorman is rude, BUT it is a mobscene outside so i don't really blame him. I was there tuesday for the i hate models party- it was amazing. beautiful girls everywhere dancing to amazing music. cannot wait to go back tonight! Pros: music, crowd, decor Cons: door more

Great club! 2/15/2009

I went here a few weeks ago for my girlfriends birthday party and we had a great time. I don't work there or know anyone that works there for that matter and my honest opinion is that it's a great spot. We didn't have any problems anywhere. Yeah, the doormen are jerks, but aren't they suppossed to be? The music was good, the staff polite and the crowd pretty decent. Don't know what all these crazy people are talking about. When someone expresses such insanely extreme feelings about something, with no objectivity whatsoever, you have to wonder what their deal is. I reccomend the place highly. Pros: Almost everything Cons: The door and the smoking. more

Dont believe the hype 2/12/2009

The loser below uses words like loser because he is a loser. The mens bathroom only has cheap smelling axe, so if your sweating and want to smell the like the Etrash working the door, your set. Otherwise dont go to this awful place. sooo expensive for absolutely nothing. I can also say that the emo rock band that played before the music got pumping sucked. In addiotion, the dj kept messing up. Way to much cigg smoking, some guy with medium blonde hair will say put that out then turn the other cheek. WE WILL SHUT YOU DOWN FOOLS@!!!! smoking indoors is against the law in nyc, and 50 percent of the people are secretly premitted to smoke. AND THE BOUNCER THINKS HE IS IMPORTNAT, he is a small, power tripped person that was my doorman for the night, haha he couldnt even afford a night out there probaly. Pros: SUPPORTING GLOBAL WARMING NOW~! Cons: EVERYTHING more

Love this place, loser below probably didn't get in. 2/12/2009

Wow what haters out there! I guess this person is promoting Mr. West? Gag me. I actually was there last night for a Bday party and had a great time! This loser probably couldn't get in, too bad for him. Pros: Had a great time Cons: The door. more

My new favorite NYC spot 2/11/2009

I have had a fabulous time everytime I have visited Greenhouse. I have had several friend's birthday celebrations there and have yet to be disappointed. Love the decor, great crowd and great music. All of the people who are so angry on this website probably never made it through the door. Pros: Great music, great crowd beautiful decor. more

WORST CLUB DOORMAN IS DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2/11/2009

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Wanna be club, full of hipsters, and underage teenage boys! The bouncers are a joke and make cash deals at the door! honestly the wort club i have ever been to in nyc. Cool looking place, however I would never go there again. If they changed their management, the bouncers, and the teenage promoters i would consider trying it once more. Please boycott this shit-hole. I love clubs and spend easily 20 grand a year going to clubs, and this place is blindly exclusive. I hope they get shut down! Pros: It makes you appreciate other clubs Cons: BOUNCERS are idiots! Teenagers running around! Hipster crowd. Awful DJ's!, and over priced!!!!!!!!! cash deals at the door?!?! more

Great Night. 2/11/2009

Went to Greenhouse the other night and absolutely loved it. The music was great and so was the crowd. It got a bit crowded for a minute but it's a new space so I guess that's a good thing. Service was also amazing, I felt like a King. I highly recommend. Pros: Great music Cons: Might get too crowded at times. more

THE MOST FUN IVE HAD IN A LONG TIME! 2/11/2009

ive been to greenhouse numerous times now - and every time its been so much FUN! the music and atmosphere is great and the staff is friendly and helpful. im definitely bringing all my friends here, its the best club in the city by far. more

BEST NYC CLUB TO OPEN IN A LONG TIME 2/11/2009

I have been going to this hot spot since it opened in November and have had NO problems at the door, with the staff/clients or anywhere else in the place. The staff is HOT, the crowd is HOT and the music is HOT! Makes me think all these people who wrote bad reviews were there on the same night or something. It's very shocking to see. I work in the industry and have not heard one bad thing about this place, with the exception people not liking the smoking. This place is going to be around for a long time and I am THRILLED!!! Pros: Absolutely everything!!! Great decor, great crowd, great music and great staff!!! Cons: The smoking is a little annoying and the drinks a tad overpriced (even for NYC) but TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! more

NOT GREEN NOR PLEASANT! 2/5/2009

First and foremost this venue should not be promoting GREEN when it allows their guests to act as walking chimneys. The promoters and just the ambiance in general is abnoxious and absolutely NO fun at all! The music is okay but what good is having okay music at that point.. My girlfriend and I wanted to try something new and ended up finding out our usual places may very well be better ie: 1 Oak, Suzie Wong, Empire Hotel, Home, Guesthouse.. Pros: The space is well decorated.. Cons: Ambiance is horrible.. more

the worst club/lounge experience 2/1/2009

i've lived in nyc for years now and never have i come across such rude people...don't waste your time at this "wannabe" trendy club....If you're anything other than white don't expect to get much attention at the door...and the whole "eco-friendly" theme was a nice idea but the overall snootiness of the place negates the whole concept...i have no idea why this place tries so hard to make it impossible for people to get it...it's a shame... more

Wannabe Miami Club 1/31/2009

I've been to the best clubs in Miami and this place is a cheap knock off. The bouncers are loud and probably have a combined IQ of 2 and they let in way too many greasy looking guys for my taste. I came with 5 girls and had to wait and when I eventually got in I was surprised at how un-trendy this place really is. Tenjune 1Oak and such places live up to standards and waiting in the cold is always justified yet this place is trying so hard to be cool. Save your time, money and energy and go to another place and oh ya the "green' gimmick is priceless. I dont think the people here know anything about the environment cuz the bouncer himself and all the guys he was letting in could have caused an environmental disaster with their hair products alone. Pros: lots of people dancing Cons: Everything else more

Greenhouse is New York's First Eco-friendly Multi-functional event space, perfect for events & parties of all sizes

Owner Message
  • Greenhouse Events proves you can have a great time while supporting a green lifestyle. This SoHo Event Space is New York's first Eco-friendly destination, featuring a two level event space that can cater to corporate parties, private events, listening parties, holiday parties, bar/bat mitzvah, & other events.

This New York City Event Space is New York City's first L.E.E.D. registered Eco-friendly Event Space. This 2 floor, 6,000 square foot event space is built from recycled or recyclable materials; and has an environmentally conscious construction & design. Each floor can be booked separately or combined.

Among Greenhouse's most spectacular attributes is the transparent ceiling fixture, comprised of over 5,000 individually hung crystals, which is designed to emulate a rolling landscape & the bars which are comprised of clear recycled glass panorama designs.

Editorial
  • Jon B. (of Guesthouse and Home) puts a politically correct twist on the New York nightlife scene at this 6,000-square-foot bi-level club, located near the base of the Holland Tunnel. Five-thousand crystals dangle from the ceiling, while lush natural scenes peek out from the recycled glass bars. Bamboo floors and leafy wall coverings complete the heady look, giving Greenhouse an almost trippy "Alice in Wonderland" vibe. Upstairs, house music blares as club-goers pour bottles from the comfort of reserved tables. The downstairs bar area boasts a more traditional lounge. Both have VIP sections.

Hits: The downstairs lounge is where it's at. Low ceilings, perimeter seating and a great soundtrack of mostly old-school hip-hop provide a more intimate, relaxed atmosphere than the clubby scene that dominates the upstairs.

Misses: Although it seems that everyone in Hollywood has gone green, don't expect to mingle with celebs here unless there's a private party. It's generally the same crowd that hangs in the MePa District.
