Get your burritos wet!

Since I live in the neighborhood, I've given this place plenty of chances - but I always leave disappointed. It's not as though there are 'plenty' of options - but it doesn't meri...

Quantity does not equal quality! 12/10/2006

Sure, the quantities may be huge, but in this case, quantity doesn't equal quality. I had heard so much about this place that I was very excited to try this place. My first time there, I tried the chile rellenos, which were just OK. The black beans were too salty and the rice was crunchy and underdone. One of my dining companions was totally incredulous that I didn't want to take home the leftovers ... I'd rather go to Taqueria Guyamas or Burrito Express. more

Great Mexican restaurant, Greenwood only now 12/4/2006

An EXCELLENT value--the burritos are hearty and delicious, the ingredients are all very fresh and tasty, the staff is very friendly, attentive, and helpful, the atmosphere friendly and informal, and the service very fast. I've never had to wait in line, which is pretty amazing. In particular, the condiments are rich and varied. I have never been disappointed with a meal here, and it's at least 500% better than a fast-food Mexican restaurant like Taco Del Mar, etc. Compared to the Gordito's in Greenwood, the Queen Anne location was a lot more spacious, clean, well lit, comfortable in a word. And no interminable waits like at the very popular Mama's in Belltown. Update (12-15-06): The QA location closed on the 23rd of Dec. A few days before it actually closed, I went to this location and I was somewhat disappointed--the ingredients in the burrito were NOT well mixed together, some of the condiments were VERY cold (not a good idea to splash your burrito with them). Will go to the Greenwood location when I can. more

Great Queen Anne location 10/25/2006

I have been a fan of Gordito's for so long. I have to say I was hesitant to go to the Queen Anne location. I thought...Gordito's.... Queen Anne...they didnt match in my mind...but I was convinced to go there since we were so hungry and didn't feel like anything but mexican. My experience was great, wonderful food...great friendly service. Thumbs up from me! more

What a disappointment 9/18/2006

Heres the truth- I'd rather go to Baja Fresh or Chipotle. First off, its fine that the burritos are oversized (I know people like the wow factor of that) but they put almost no meat or veggies in them. Its just a bunch of rice and beans. Its all a runny mess and the rice and beans are "ok" but not worth paying $6 for a huge plate of them, inside a thin flour tortilla. Don't even bother ordering a side of rice and beans, talk about overkill. Also I ordered my burrito spicy. Now I loooooove spicy food but they cut up so many jalapenos in the burrito that half of its coloration was from the green peppers! So on top of bland rice and beans I was tearing and had a burning puffy sensation in my face. I did like the salsa bar but where was the traditional pico de galo? Oh and the music they played... it sounded like polka. Maybe it was Mexican but I wasn't a big fan. Ok I sounded like I hated it and it wasn't that bad. I mean I ate the whole thing (yes I'm a pig) as did my husband. But do yourself a favor and forgo the Gordito experience. Its not worth the bus trip over. more

Bigger isn't necesarily better 9/4/2006

Where is the ambiance? There's nothing pleasant about eating here. It's reminiscent of high school and hospital cafeterias. Who feels nostalgic about that? Both conjure up painful images. So the food's alright. So what? This town is full of alright food. more

Want Huge (burritos? (gorditos) at good prices! 7/18/2006

Well this review is about gorditos its located in a whole in awhile on 85th, across from GreenWood Academy or near its painted with blue, yellow and red and it has a nice big sign. The burritos are amazingly huge and large, i would recommend getting a regular size for an individual and one huge one if you were on a date. Service is excellent friendly staff, it what you would expect from a mom and pop restaurant. I enjoy my meal there but the only gripe is that music was in the restaurant blaring loud and limited parking if you want to come during lunch yeah forget parking lol. but on a nice sunny day you can trek it and sit out in the back where the have chairs and tables which is nice. more

It's True 6/12/2006

They do have the biggest burritos in Seattle - for the price!! But, I don't go often for several reasons, the lines are CRAZY and I don't find the burritos that tasty. I know, I'm weird, but I don't like Red Mill's burger's either! It's nice that they cook it when you order and that you can use the leftovers for a meal the next day, but I find the veggies undercooked and they need something with a lot more cheese - I'm a big time cheese fan. I really like that they're not a big chain but a family owned establishment...that's about it from my perspective - take what you want from it. more

I can't get enough Gordito's... 5/25/2006

Well I can at one sitting (because the burritos are really big), but I always come back for more. I had to stop going so often because my wife started thinking I was a little obsessed. I love the atmosphere, the people, the food. They have a selection of fresh salsas (my favorite is the chipotle). They have beer too, which you can't get at a taco truck! more

Bring Your Extra Stomach 4/24/2006

Or just get one burrito for two people. LOTS of food. I don't care too much for burritos the size of my head, but I eat less than most. I like the friendly people who work there (owners, their family, friends, etc). Their ordering system is fun too. It can be crowded at times, but the line moves quickly. Horchata, yum. I know I might be crazy, but egg tacos are delicious. more

California style burritos 4/18/2006

Gorditos is the sort of burrito place that you'll find in surfer towns along the California coast. Find it crowded with happy, slightly hung over people eager for a huge burrito that won't be too much of a gut bomb. I thought it was ok, but not memorable. Tacos Guaymas is probably worth the extra dollar or two, in my opinion, or try Taqueria Tequila a few blocks west on 85th. more

Seriously, you expect me to eat this 3/29/2006

Okay, so I know I'll probably get some grief, but what is up with Gorditos? Come on, marinara like sauce on a wet burrito. What is going on here? And I recognize that it's a great a deal, and the portions are huge, and it's cheap, but what they heck are people eating? Maybe I'm spoiled, and/or have different tastebuds. But can it at least taste like Mexican food? Also, anyone have any suggestions for some good Mexican grub? It's one of the few things I haven't found in Seattle. more

cheap eats 3/20/2006

The food is good and cheap! I really like their homemade chips and salsa. They also have several options for vegetarian burritos, and they are all pretty good. The restaurant itself isn't that cozy, so I usually take out and eat at home, which works out great since a person can't eat a whole Gordito burrito in one setting anyway, so it makes having leftovers really easy. more

Have you ever eaten a burrito as big as a baby 3/20/2006

I'm unsure as to how the "Healthy" part of the restaurant's name came to be. Based on the burritos I've eaten here, I think it's possible to get your week's caloric intake in one serving. If you really want burritos as big as your head, then forget Chipotle. Gordito's burritos are huge. Beyond size, the burritos at Gordito's are good. From the moment you step in the door, you can see that the meats are being grilled right before you. The sauce and cheese ratio on the wet burritos is near perfect, not so much of either that you notice it. I don't think I can agree with reviews of Gordito's being the BEST Mexican restaurant, but I can say it is tasty and it hits the spot when I feel like I'm on the brink of starvation. Although there is a lot of seating, I don't particularly love dining in. It is rare for me to find a table that isn't sticky. If you do stay, at least Gorito's is prepared. Stacks of styrofoam to-go containers sit at the ready. On my last visit, there was a picture of a baby next to a Gordito's burrito. I think the burrito was bigger. more

Monster burritos and delicious too! 3/11/2006

Everything on the menu is fresh, tasty and big! My fave is the wet steak burrito and I like to get the grande because I can take it home and eat for several days! It is even better the second day! Great sauce, lots of meat and truly a delight to eat! Everything on the menu is good so you don't have to worry what to choose. Very casual atmosphere, noisy enough that it is private and fun. Lots of loud Hispanic music blaring and large open space with tables and chairs enough for parties four to eight or ten by putting tables together. You bus your own dishes but it's easy. It has probably the best sauce bar around. Three flavors with increasing heat; a mixture of cilantro and onion; and of course peppers. All you want cause it is self serve. Best to go before 4 as dinnertime offers lines out the door. Also, parking is tough when they are busy. BTW, people tend to be inconsiderate parkers in the little lot! Can be annoying, esp. when you are trying to thread your way out! Hours are 10:30-9. They are closed Tuesdays. Also, they tend to close for holidays and extended vacations from time to time. Call ahead if around holidays. more

Beyond Big... the choices are here are actually Good! 2/22/2006

Lots of cheap eateries serve filling meals but not satisfying ones. The burritos here are so large that they could glide by on that alone but somehow they actually make a quality product, or many! Try the quesadillas, which are like their brother burritos, just as big and suprisingly good. more

Gordito's: huge, inexpensive, good burritos and great service 2/22/2006

Went here just before noon and didn't wait long to get my to-go order. The cashier offered me a "small" (by their standards; plenty big enough for me) basket of chips and some salsa while I waited. Nice touch! I had a regular steak burrito with hot sauce (which wasn't very hot). I've had other burritos I've liked better, but nothing beat the combination of size, quality, and price here. I'll definitely go back to try some of their other items. (And the line was out the door when I left shortly after noon.) more

Cheap eats! 1/31/2006

Gorditos definitely serves you a LOT of food for cheap. The prices are great and the portions are huge. They really do actually have a burrito the size of a newborn baby. Their chips and salsa are yummy, but their vegetarian burritos are not my favorite. I've had a few different kinds and both times they've just been ok. I think you can find better vegie burritos elsewhere. The staff is super friendly and nice. more

Great! 11/22/2005

This place is a great place to dine when it is the day before pay day and you are broke. For only 5 dollars you can get a huge burrito a drink and some chips. You will find that when you are done you will still have left overs. For just a couple dollars more you can get what I believe is called a grande burrito. It is the largest burrito I have ever freakin seen!!! Enough for like three meals, or to split with friends. Great place, Great food and Great Ambience. All together GREAT! more
