Giraud Studio combines high caliber talent with the 'best of the best' in customer service. The whole staff works very hard at this and they succeed. Usually, high quality hair styling and service mean premium prices and here this isn't so as they keep their prices very much in line with what they provide. It is a wonderful, upbeat and creative place to care for yourself. I highly recommend as I've had enough appointments to know that what I am saying is true. I'm happily looking forward to my next appointment! more

Joanna cut and colored my hair all through college (yes 20+ years ago!). I traveled from Chicago to Ann Arbor just to have her style my hair. For the past 10 years I've lived too far to benefit from her talents. I was thrilled that recent travels brought us together again. I too was a little puzzeled and must comment on the unfavorable review posted on 4/7/10. I have been a client of Joanna's for over ten years. My first experience was at her salon on Newbury St. in Boston. After years of being less than happy with my hair color and reading the article about her salon and expert talent of color correction in Allure magazine, I decided to visit her. Best thing I ever did. Not only did she take the time to consult with me and listen to my needs, she proceeded to evaluate my hair condition and create a color that was perfect for me. I left her salon that day looking & feeling the best I ever had. I have been with her ever since. Joanna not only knows you as a client, she gets to know you as a person. I have always found her to be well groomed, considerate and professional while being friendly and making you feel comfortable. Her shop is beautiful, clean & relaxing where you get to meet and mingle with other regulars over coffee, tea, food etc. Her speciality is hair color, she does not cut hair only. However she will cut hair for her clients that she colors, over the years she has catered to all my whims and changes of hair styles desired, I have never been unhappy. I have many people comment on my hair color and style, that is the best flattery and recommendation anyone can achieve, not to mention how good it makes me feel. I rarely take the time to write reviews (too busy) but in the process of searching for something else, I decided to look up all of my favorite places. I noticed a less than flattering review below and was moved to chime in that Joanna Giraud is absolutely the best colorist and hairstylist I have ever encountered. I drive an hour each way every month for the privilege of being her client. Once, about 5 years ago, I had my hair colored while I was vacationing at a well-known spa. The spa colorist did a decent job but, after years of having perfection, I was disappointed and have not let anyone other than Joanna touch my hair ever again. more

Having just finished reading a most unusual review of Giraud Studio, I feel it necessary to say that I have been a client of Johanna;s for eighteen years and have nothing but praise for Johanna, Omar and the staff The Salons have always been immaculate, the staff dress in an understated way, and are always pleasant and most importantly, the color and cut are the best. I do a fair amount of traveling and when I have my hair done in Paris, London, South Beach, without fail the stylists ask where I get my hair colored, because it is such a subtle natural look. Based on previous reviews, I was so excited to be able to get an appointment at Giraud Studio. Upon arrival, staff was friendly and hospitable. Atmosphere was excellent! I recieved the best shampoo massage I have ever had. I believe her name was Alicia, she was friendly and made me feel at ease. I saw Cory for my color which was exemplorary. She was extremely professional and cordial. The color came out ""perfect""! I sat in the owner Joanne's chair and she gave me a wonderful consultation for my new style. I was very, very excited. As she began to cut my hair, a strange foul smell permeated the area. As she continued, the foul smell became stronger and stronger. I had a hard time not gagging. I couldn't just get up and leave as I was in the middle of the process of my new style. So I held my breath and stuck it out. The result was a smelly experience and a just average cut and style. It was definately not worth the money. To my dismay, the stylist was disheveled and inappropiately dressed for her position. I was greatly dissapointed because I was so impressed with the excellent staff, superb hair massage, and beautiful color. I also want to comment on the attentiveness and professionalism of the receptionist. Overall, five stars for shampoo, color, and hospitality. One star for the average cut and minus one star for the foul odor, which gives me an average of an overall three stars. Being a disc oncerning client living in Boston Iwas very reluctant to drive to Hamilton although very fancy!I unfortunately had ahair disaster and affter much reasearch Joanna was my awnser to beautiful hair color but was excepting no new clients at her Newbury St location.Giraud was an unexpected surprise gorgeous Marano Glass,European magazines,flowers slippers, champagne, no neglect to detail.The small staff were accomadating but Joanna herself is unasuming and incredibly articulate she had read my book club book but is not in a club and loves opera!That was my experiance but the hair surpassed allmy expertations natural and shiny and splurge on the kerastase treatments for shine the pink one!Best news she only wants me back in 12 weeks Pros: Interlectual hairsylist more

I drive from Boston to Hamilton just to have Joanna Giraud do my cut and color. It is worth the trip. The salon is in a great location so that if you drive the distance like me you can get a bite to eat or go shopping in some of the cute boutiques close to by. Pros: Joanna Giraud more

I just had my hair cut and colored by Joanna and, once again, it looks amazing. Joanna is like magic with color. Giraud Studio - from Omar and Joanna to everyone who works there - offers lots of TLC along with expertise in hair styling. There are slippers for your feet. Bubbly water, coffee or tea. Magazines galore. And you come out looking fabulous. You can get cheaper hair cuts but I find that Omar and Joanna's cuts and coloring last longer, so the expense is well worth it. Joanna is a genius! I came to her after two terrible experiences within the past week at another salon that left my hair extremely damaged, bleached, and almost pink in color. Joanna rescued my hair and now the color looks better than it ever has. My hair also looks and feels healthy, which is a miracle after what it's been through in the past week. The color consultation with Joanna was very thorough. She obviously takes pride in her work and is very good at it. She was able to give me thoughtful advice and really looked at me to determine what would work best with my skin tone and coloring -- this seems like common sense but unfortunately doesn't happen enough at other salons! She also helped me understand and articulate what I was looking for, and she clearly explained everything she planned to do. The overall atmosphere in the salon was welcoming, friendly, and supportive. I think my bad experience was actually a blessing because I wouldn't have sought out Joanna if it hadn't happened. After much research I chose Giraud Studio because my friend had done it with Omar and raved about his expertise. It was great becuase they had three to chose from, Bio Ionic, Simply Smooth, and Marcia Texiera, all on thier website. Results are amazing. I spent $350 to get the brazilian keratin (marcia texiera) and that included shampoo, conditioner, and a long list of do's and dont's from the guru. Not a straightener but a smoother and defrizzer!! Worth every penny and all the time Pros: Beautiful, no frizz, easy blow dry, lasts long Cons: 72 hours can't wash, helmet head but worth it! more

Before my trip to Giraud Studio my hair was unmanageble, frizzy, and a complete mess. I was referred to Giraud by a friend whom also got the smoothing done. I called and made an appointment to speak to Omar first befor getting the treatment and the receptionist was more then helpful! She got me in the first appointment available. While at the salon I also spoke to Joanna about color. I made an appointment for the service all in one day. The best part was I got my color done the same day! When I was finished my hair was beautifully smooth, shiny, and felt the healthiest it has ever been! The color was more then perfect and the cut complimented my face just right. Everyone at the salon from the receptionist to the assistant was so pleasant and made sure my every need was met! I know that I will be back for all my services all the time. Joanne seems to have an endless supply of good humor and knows how to meet each client's needs...even the fussy ones (not ME, of course!!). She is a master colourist but still (after all these years) seems to take joy in each creation....good hair, good cut, good style.....I once offered to be her assistant just to get to figure it out.....not just the hair but the person! I can recommend Giraurd Studio unequivocally. You will not be disappointed.... Pros: Colour, colour, colour Cons: none I can think of more

I have extremely thick hair and recently had the Bioionics straightening done. I feel like I have a new head of hair! Omar has traveled around the world teaching this process and it shows. He is so professional and his work is unbelievable. I can't believe I didn't have this done sooner. You absolutely will love the way you look at the end of your session and I promise you will get compliments/ inquiries about where you got the great cut/color. Take your mirror outside and you'll see what they're talking about. The gorgeous color, shine and natural looking highlights come from Joanna's years of training by professionals at the top of their game. Add to that Joanna's instinctive artistic eye towards beauty and her thoughtful, considerate attention to each client's desires and you'll see why everyone is so eager to write a positive review here.
