What a joy to have found ""the best""...right in my own back yard. My childhood hair color was dark blonde (lighter in the summer), but as I've aged it's gotten much darker -- with pesky grays thrown in for good measure. Not any more! Almost 20 years ago, I read in Boston Magazine, that Joanna Giraud was Boston Magazine's Best Colorist in Boston. I went to her salon, Solus, on Newbury Street ,and it didn't take me long to see why she had earned that reputation!! My base color is dark brown, and finding the perfect blonde highlight was usually a struggle for prior colorists. Not Joanna, her color is always perfection... Joanna is by far the most talented when it comes to color and especially highlights and low lights.. she has trained some of the most sought after colorists on Newbury Street today. Corey Melisi, also a Newbury Street professional, has joined her in Hamilton . Omar Giraud, is a leading Newbury Street stylist, who works on Newbury and in Hamilton to provide fabulous styling to their clients. Lauren Menezes is Joanna's new assistant, who is thoroughly delightful and she is always there to make certain your visit to Giraud Studio is perfection!! I have followed Joanna from Boston to Hamilton and would travel anywhere to continue to receive the most professional coloring from her. She is an absolute delight to listen to and talk to and you will love the atmosphere and great energy of the salon. I just moved from NYC to boston and was having trouble finding a good colorist that specialized in blondes. I had a a bad highlight experience at Shag (nothing against them, they just don't have a good colorist...They put random reddish tone highlights in my blonde. ick). Thank God I met a girl with a great blonde and got the name of her colorist joanna. I was not disappointed! The staff is friendly, the salon is very zen and Joanna did a wonderful job of rescuing my blonde from the last highlight. I'll be making that 40 minute drive quite a lot, I think.... Joanna is absolutely the best colorist I have seen yet. I have been dying my hair for about ten years now and have had the opportunity to have my hair done by a few talented colorists (and several average or subpar as well). Giraud studio brings big city stylists to local residents. People travel long distances to come to the studio because the stylists are so good. If you have had a bad dye job they can correct your color and get you on track to healthy natural looking hair so you will look great again. This is the perfect salon if you want your color to look great all of the time with fewer trips to the salon!!! I see Joanna (Corey is awesome, too!!!) every 12 weeks and my color always looks fresh without roots. The secret is the treatment that they send home with me for application between my salon appointments, at week 6. It is easy to apply (my husband does mine!!!) and it lifts the root and makes the color always look fresh, like it was just done. All of our lives get so busy, but with this mid-treatment, I only need to go to the salon 4 times a year and this is one of the main reasons I travel one hour to see Joanna. In addition to fabulous color and cuts (by Omar), the staff is professional and fun (Lauren is always smiling), the parking is a breeze, the nearby shops and restaurants convenient, and the salon is warm, friendly, clean, and peaceful. I would never go anywhere else!!!! more

The absolute best place to get your hair done on the North Shore and well worth the travel if you live outside the area. Every person you encounter at this beautiful salon will make you feel wonderful!! From the moment you walk through the door you will be warmly greeted by Heidi and you will feel right at home! I have been getting my hair done with Omar for over a decade and he is amazing. The concept of a bad hair day has been completely eliminated for me. The attention to detail, the great salon environment, and Omar's great personality and care keep me coming back - even when I have needed to fly from the mid west or drive 3 hours to get to the salon. I highly recommend Giraud Studio. I always feel like a princess from the moment I walk in the door. Joanna is an expert hair colorist, and listens to what your desires are. She makes your hair easy to maintain and works with each client to fit their hair color routine into their lifestyle. Omar is an experienced hair stylist and takes pride in spending lots of time cutting your hair to perfection. In addition he is an expert at using the bioionic hair system for straightening hair. He used to work for the company as an educator. I have had my hair professionally straightened for the past 5 years at several high end salons on Newbury Street and Omar's results topped them all. It is not easy to find a professional hair stylist and a pleasant environment in the same setting. In Boston and surrounding towns there is so much ego that I often had to tell myself ""this won't be fun, but you have to do it."" In my first experience with Giraud Salon I got a great hair cut and a professional and friendly salon! Giraud knows his craft very well. After so many years of going to Newbury St. where consistency of cuts is hard to come by, I was most impressed with his professional knowledge and ability. He repaired a poorly done cut and sent me out of the salon looking great. The entire staff has high professional standards and were very helpful and sincere. My color consult with Joanna was so spot-on that I am excited to make my appointment with her. There were no undertones of ""if you want to come to this salon then you should have this, this and this done."" My shampoo and scalp massage were well done and relaxing and made me want to come back even before my fabulous hair cut. When I called to schedule my first appointment, Lauren Menezes showed her gift with people. She listened to my concerns and I felt understood. It was a relief to speak with an intelligent and kind person (a lot of emotional intelligence here) when so many salons are trying to impress their clients with arrogance. I think her sincerity comes from knowing she is a professional working with professionals - not people with more attitude than talent. I have found a great salon just when I was losing faith. For more than 5 years I have depended on stylist Corey Melisi to not only give me a style that makes me feel wonderful, but to provide first class service one comes to expect while at the salon. From the moment I sit in her chair I feel a calm knowing I will be given Corey's full attention as she begins her work leaving no detail undermined. There's a certain amount of trust one must build with their stylist--an understanding that your personal needs will be met as well as your expectations. Corey sets a high bar and often exceeds such expectations with a gentle suggestion for something new or knowing how to keep things just right. I have been a client of Joanna Howell-Giraud's for many years, first in Boston and now at the salon in Hamilton. I drive from Vermont to see her - she is an artist. I have long hair, greying early, and she keeps it a natural looking, light brown with blond highlights. It looks gorgeous every time I leave. Joanna is amazing, I get so many compliments on my hair. She specializes in natural looking color, just more FABULOUS ! I put my hair through alot of stress, but she uses products that keep even long, blonde hair shiny and beautiful. Not dry at all. Omar is a phenomenal stylist, he does a great job with the ""in style now"" cuts and also the more conservative. On my quest for hair color emergency Joannas name appeared reapeatedly but i was skeptical as i live in the South End and am ahuge hair snob.desperate i made the pilrimage to HAMILTON to find agorgous studio.I REALIZED joanna had been my colorist 20 years ago when she owned Solus on newbury street,it was like coming home.Joanna has none traits of someone with such talnt she is pretty ,low key, well educated and artilate with abritish accent to boot.Three hours later my disater was unveiled.I then had he husband Omar cut my hair with equal talent.Ihave never been happier.Nervous of maintaience I was sent home with a to go kit ,come back in 10 to 12 weeks to keep the time and cost to four times a year,Yay Pros: gorgeous,cappicino,FREE parking and keraste TREATMENTS. Obviously from all the raving reviews there are just not enough good things that can be said about Giraud Salon. Joanna is a MASTER as what she does. She listens to what you are saying, even if you can't fully explain what you are trying to achieve and within minutes can repeat back to you what she thinks you are looking for and offers advice on what she thinks would be best, it's PERFECTION! I am constantly asked ""who does your hair"" I feel like I could be her agent with the number of times I've referred people to her. Omar is simply the best in cutting that I've ever had touch my hair and there have been many! I won't let anyone with a pair of sissors near it for the rest of my life now! The rest of the girls, Corey, Heidi and Lauren, each one is a star in their own right. The warmth, energy, fun that this salon exudes makes it try an experience that you don't want to miss, even in our busy lives you look forward to this appointment!
