Love it, Love it, Love it 5/1/2008

I've been coming here for a few years now and can't seem to stay away. This past weekend I brought some out of state friends to the place I'm always talking about and they immediately agreed. The food is amazing, the service is just the same, along with the atmosphere. & on a personal and possibly a ""tmi"" moment, the new chef is a real cutie ; ]...yet another reason to return! Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Great Taste...Handsome new chef lol more

Best sushi with great atmosphere 8/6/2007

Been going here for over twenty five years. Always bring friends from out of town and they always want to come back ""to the Japanese place with the sushi floating by with the funny name"" place whenever they come back. Not just because of the sushi floating by but because the sushi is some of the best most of them have ever had or ever will have. I had a friend who from New York who really knows his stuff about sushi. Way beyond me. I decided to take him to Frying Fish more for the fun of the conveyor belt, while knowing he'll get a solid meal, maybe not as exotic as he was used to but great. He gets there and after watching what the chefs had to work with ordered something exotic, way beyond my knowledge. He smiled with expectation as he popped it into his mouth. I watched as the smile turned to a very wide grin. ""Great"" was all he said as he threw a five dollar bill into the Chef's tip basket. The chef smiled, knowing my friend knew his stuff. We stayed for another two hours. He goes back every time he's in town. Pros: Great food and great ambience Cons: None I can think of more

Best inexpensive sushi in Los Angeles 6/5/2007

I've eaten here more times than I can count. The sushi is always good and the service is always fast. Depending on who's working, the chefs can be a little surly, but for me that has become part of the charm. This is fast-food sushi, so there's not much flair, but the quality and price are unbeatable. The spider roll and dynamite are particularly good.\r \r Pros: Quality, service, price, parking, location\r Cons: Small, tight seating, can get quite busy for diner/lunch.\r \r Advice: If it's packed for lunch, get a bento box to go (comes up pretty fast), a drink at the market next door, and eat at the picnic tables across the street by the Japanese-American center. more

The best Spider Rolls in town 3/9/2007

I have been to so many Japanese restaurants, and i have to say that Frying Fish has the best of my favorite of all the places, Spider Rolls. My next favorite is Black Dragon. Try this place first if you are first time sushi person so you can compare what's good what's not the next time you go somewhere else. Pros: Great Spider Rolls more

in little Tokyo 12/15/2006

I live in Utah, but every time I go to LA I try to stop here to eat. In fact, I just ate there tonight. The prices are good. The albacore just melted in my mouth. Someone wrote they only take cash, They do take credit cards because I used one tonight. Service is attentive, They constantly kept my tea cup full. Sure there are fancier places to go, but for the money this is a good deal. I like this style of service. It's fun and quick and my fish tonight was fresh off the boat Pros: price Cons: only sushi, not fancy more

Fun little sushi bar 4/26/2006

This place is worth going based on atmosphere alone. Frying fish is one of the more unique restaurants in L.A. The uniqueness comes in form of a conveyer belt. At frying fish you dont have to order your food through a waitress/waiter, you simply pick off your desired dish through a conveyer belt that circulates around the bar. Once you finish, the bill is tallied based on the color dish you chose. On the wall of the restaurant is a poster which serves as the key to the price structure of the dishes. This place may not have the best sushi in the area, try sushi go 55 for that, or the least expensive dishes, but its uniquness is worth a visit. Definitely try for lunch if you work around the area. Pros: Atmosphere, Friendly staff, Valet Parking Cons: a tad expensive more

Round and round the sushi goes... 4/13/2006

Great sushi, great rolls, and overall good prices. Locaed in Little Tokyo, this is one of many sushi resturants in the area, but it's been there forever and the steady clientele and courteous chefs make this a catch. The seating is cramped when fulll, but the experience is worth it. Pros: Good fish, Good service, Good chefs Cons: cramped when busy more

Good Value 1/7/2005

Went here on New Years Day with friends upon recomendation and was pleasantly surprised. This is really a sushi bar and very little else, but the staff and chefs are friendly and the service is TERRIFIC. I couldn't get out of my seat without someone attending to me. I accidentally dropped my cap on the floor and they reached under the adjacent seat to pick it up before I could! The sushi is good (not great), but for the prices they are charging the sushi is terrific. Recommended. more

fish friend 6/6/2004

This place is one of the secret gems of Los Angeles. The prices are unbelievable, and the atmosphere is laid back and fun. The chefs are halarious. The sushi is excellent. I really think it is the best sushi in all of L.A. I especially like the albacore. Great place for a first date. Pros: inexpensive, good parking more

Great food, even better prices 9/8/2003

After reading the previous review, I felt obliged to add my own. I eat here all the time and really enjoy it. The chefs are funny, the food is delicious, the ambiance is campy--especially the sushi conveyor belt, and the prices are fantastic. Be aware, this isn't Matsuhisa! Rather, I feel like I'm sitting in a random sushi bar in Tokyo. Pros: Great fresh food, Cool conveyor belt, Inexpensive Cons: Cash only more
