Amazing service and fresh, summer food! 8/6/2007

I haven't been to franny's since the colder months, and WOW, what an amazing selection of summer vegetables are on the menu now! The heirloom tomato salad blew me away, and the eggplant crostini was crazy good. They now have pastas on the menu! My bucatini alla carbonara was unbelievable, some of the best pastas I've ever had. They also have a really fun wine list, which the always knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff is eager to talk about. We had a really delicious lambrusco that was biodynamic. I think this place is great and one of the few restaurants around who really is in tune with seasonality. Pros: Fresh, seasonal food. Educated staff. Super hospitable! Cons: None. more

Stop the hate 6/20/2007

If you 'want it your way' go to Burger King. Franny's is not your normal pizza place. As a matter of fact its not a pizza place. It is the best restaurant in Brooklyn. If you want a pepperoni pizza with onion and meatball, as i often do, don't go to frannys, becuase that's just not what they do. It's true that most of the pizzas on the menu can not be altered, but thats just the point. Chef has created complete dishes that really can't be improved. It is the best crust you'll ever encounter, and the pizza's are always balanced and insanely consistent. The pizza is amazing, but the rest of the menu is just as good. The wine list is always exceptional and constantly evolving. Yes its not 'cheap', but its worth every cent. (the prices are on the menu, if you don't want to spend the money, then just don't' Pros: Worlds best crust, Staff are true foodies, Great wine list Cons: guests at the table next to you complaining becase they can't create thier own pizza more

way expensive for what you get 5/30/2007

i went for a friend's birthday and we had to wait forever for a table. decided to ask for bread to snack on at the bar and were charged for the mediocre few slices. i'm glad they use organic and local ingredients but the pizza was just not that good. ingredients can only take you so far if you don't use em right!!!! and it was sooo expensive. they can claim it's because it's organic, but i know how much wholesale organic flour costs, and it is PENNIES. can't say i'll return. Pros: quality ingredients Cons: way too expensive, long wait more

Franny's my....... wallet 5/14/2007

I beleive all the good reviews for this pizza joint on this site came from the owner or the wait staff, come to this place where no one smiles and everyone looks at you like you're not worthy being there, rubbish attitude , worst service, overpriced food, and you still want to go there ?never again, Pros: good bottled water Cons: worst wait staffs attitude, watch out for pizza rules and regulations more

Fantastic! If you want to be treated like a child 5/2/2007

The WORST service experience in my entire life! The staff was overbearing and hell-bent on making up rules for the sake of enforcing them. We went as a group and were seated at two adjoining tables. We were told we can not share our pizza with the next table because ?it would be too confusing for the chefs?. We were chastised for having a chair tilted slightly sideways, and then told that our tables could not talk to one another because they do not accommodate groups. To add insult to injury, they included the tip in the bill for ?group service!!? The pizza was average and overpriced. This abysmal place is not worth your time or money. Cons: rude service, cramped quarters, disappointing food more

great pizza - but I leave the kid home 4/2/2007

The pizza here is very good. The atmosphere is warm and laid-back. The wait staff recommends good wine. But, as mentioned below, this is not a kid-friendly place. Which is perfectly fine (although the restaurant should change the ?Kid Friendly? designation). Not every restaurant, even in Park Slope, has to be welcoming to families. Franny?s is a good adult restaurant. We need these too in Park Slope. Pros: pizza, wine, ambience Cons: too crowded/rushed on weekend nights, not kid friendly, if that's a con more

Come on, it's good 3/24/2007

Franny's is expensive. The park slope crowd is boring. The decor is a little sterile, but let's face it the pizza is good. the wine is good and the service is good. The appetizers on the other hand are excellent especially the artichoke. Yes,I always leave feeling like I spent a lot of money, because I always spend a lot of money, but I go back because at the end of the day it's fresh delicious food. Pros: Food, wine list Cons: Farty crowd, average ambience more

Easily some of the best pizza in New York 1/31/2007

Look people, it's not a cheap place. Beer is about $6 and the pizza roughly $16 for a pizza that barely fills two people. Sometimes the place is so full of kids and those behemoth strollers it makes me wonder why I come back and question whether I ever want kids. But this is why you should be bowing down at the altar of Franny's. Pros: Quality of ingredients Cons: Kids and Park Slope Mommies everywhere more

$28 is way too much for pizza and beer... 1/21/2007

Pizza is not available by the slice, so is expensive since you have to order the equivalent of 4-5 slices. The bartender-ess tried to influence my choice of pizza, saying the less expensive ones didn't have cheese, and didn't I want cheese on my pizza. By the time I ordered, I was up to a $14 pizza. I also ordered a draft of a local beer. I wanted the $4.50 size but she didn't ask and gave me the $7 (very small) pint. Net, net, the pizza crust was limp and not crunchy at all. And the $28 bill (incl tip and tax) was outrageous for one person. I feel ""taken"" by the bartender-ess so she could get a bigger tip. I will never go back. Cons: very expensive; unscrupulous waitress more

Very expensive pizza 12/28/2006

Although the pizza and drinks were good, this place is very expensive!!! There are tons of better pizza places in brooklyn at a fraction of the cost- you may not get the same ambiance, but its still a pizzeria. The waitstaff was rude and hurried us throughout the whole meal. I do not recommend. If you are willing to shell out $$$$ for pizza and want to be in a yuppie environment this is your place!! Pros: good food Cons: very expensive more

So addicted my accountant put me on a Franny's budget 12/23/2006

We've been regulars at Franny's since it opened, and love everything about it. The bartender knows the italian wine list inside and out, the hostess is darling: friendly and accommodating, with a great smile. The atmosphere is cozy and lively with great, funky music and fab. decorations. We love the savory crostinis and innovative salads on the menu--they're as good as the yummy pizzas. Our favorites are the cannelini bean or tuscan bean crostinis. We also love the seasonal fritos. Very tasty. The charred pizza crust is perfect, as are the fresh ingredients used to top the pizza. Somehow, we always find room for the decadent chocolate sorbet (delicious and homemade), panna cotta, and almond cake. Pros: Creative, tasty Italian Cons: No delivery! more

Excellent Pizza, Nice Little Spot 12/16/2006

Franny's is excellent, a wonderful addition to an otherwise barren stretch of Flatbush. The pizza is superb, with top-notch ingredients, perfectly balanced, thoughtfully executed. The dough is airy, and the sauce is tomato-y and crisp. Nice wine list with mostly (all?) Itallian varietals. The bartender was very nice, the waitresses friendly and helpful. Pros: Food, Wine, Service Cons: It's on Flatbush more

NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY - and the food is not worth the trip anyway! 12/4/2006

I was told by the staff at Franny's in no uncertain terms that, although my children were well behaved while there, they were not the clientele this snooty pizzeria wanted to cater to. The staff was rude to us, despite the fact that my sister, whose birthday we were celebrating, is a regular there (not anymore!!). Although this restaurant describes itself on this site as ""Kid Friendly"" (see Amenities), it is anything but. We were dining at 5:00 on a Sunday, a time where it is reasonable for children to be at a pizzeria, no matter how upscale it is attempting to be! My children were appropriately behaved for their ages and NEVER left their seats or cried. Nonetheless, we were made to feel unwelcomed by the rude staff and hostess. In a neighborhood filled with young families, this restaurant has made clear that it is not interested in serving families with children. Pros: Large wine selection is the only prop I can think of! Cons: Pizza is subpar, expensive and atmosphere is unwelcoming to families more

Fresh and Fast 11/26/2006

Very tasty and tasteful dishes. We loved the white bean crostini and the apple and pear salad. Quck brick oven style pizza with big crust bubbles and burn marks. Great, light sauce and classic Italian toppings. Go. Pros: Super delicious Cons: A bit expensive. more

Disappointed, not a good value 11/26/2006

I just wanted to add to the otherwise glowing reviews on this site. We went early on a Saturday night with high expectations. It was tough not to notice that toddlers of Park Slope had the run of the place and hence the restaurant has at once an extremely chaotic and suburban vibe. Nevertheless we were steady promptly and the wait staff was quite friendly, almost cloying. The menu appeared initially very appealing and the wine list is extensive and balanced (though our particular waitress wasn't ""much of a wine drinker"") . Pros: Good wine list (bottle and by the glass), good location Cons: Overpriced, dull pizza, too many kids running around more

We love Franny's 9/2/2006

In a neighborhood with no shortage of restaurants Franny's is a great stand out. The food is amazing. The pizza is light and delicious with a charred, slightly smoky taste and heavenly ingredients. The salads are bold and interesting. It has all the cool of a great after hours club while somehow producing complex, interesting food. We felt like we just scratched the surface and it was all over way too soon. Pros: Great interesting food Cons: Little pricey more

I dream about Franny's every night. 6/22/2006

A meal at Franny's is guaranteed heaven. Go when you first get your paycheck in the mail; the prices are on the high side, but it'll ruin the experience if you waste your energy trying to be stingy. Every pizza on the menu is divine - provolone and onions, anything with sausage, and the classic bufalo mozzarella and tomato are hard to pass up, and one time they had one with fontina and porcini mushrooms.. it was my absolute favorite but I havent seen it since, so if they have it when you go, GET IT! And whatever you do, save room for dessert and order one of everything. I'm not kidding. Especially if they have the Fiore di Latte gelato - it's otherworldly; the panna cotta and chocolate sorbet are equally dreamy. If the wait for a table is too long, just sit at the bar; you will still have a great time. Bon appetit! Pros: FOOD! the food overrides all cons! Cons: price (if youre feeling cheap), long wait for a table for bigger parties/on busy nights more

Good Pizza in a tough Pizza town 5/8/2006

The pizzas are generally very good, but can be hit-and-miss at times. The Tomato and Provolone Piccante with Red Onions pie was simply divine, but the Anchovy pie was so-so. Since the portions are small, it may not be easy to share with a large group. Because Franny's is a small restaurant, be prepared to wait when it's busy. Since Brooklyn has good Pizzerias all over (Grimaldi's, Totonno's, L&B, and DiFara's), it's tough to say if Franny's is simply the best given the various pizza styles (i.e.: L&B's square pie). Personally, I like Grimaldi's just a little better. But Frannys is up there. While Frannys appetizers and desserts are also very good, the main attraction is the pizza. Points are taken off for the rushed service when it's busy (i.e.: taking my drink before I finish it completely) and the very expensive prices for relatively small portions of food. Pros: Pizza Cons: Service, Expensive, Waits more

I get confused... 3/11/2006

Frannys is definately great for a couple on a date- they have pretty great pizza and delicious appetizers; however, the service confuses me. Sometimes, the servers and other business people there are helpful and kind, other times, i have found them crabby and harshly unkind (and for what reason??). The price is not worth the whole deal though. It is way too expensive, albeit quite tasty--- for the size, servings, quality. Truly, i sometimes eat there- but always take out because of the poor service i have received. Pros: tasty food, intimate Cons: too expensive, service issues more
