A pleasant end to a wonderful stay 6/1/2005

We ended up at Fork after much internet research on other restaurants in the Old City area. I was pleasantly surprised by the space-intimate, but lively enough to encourage conversation and a feeling of festivity. Service was good, but not outstanding. The food, however, was wonderful. The oysters had a lovely sauce that was perfectly paired with a sparkling wine-a delicious combination. The true highlight for me was the duck with the duck confit and wild mushroom sausage. It was absolutely stunning. The dessert was a fantastic bread pudding with vanilla gelatto. Delicious and in a great location-try it! Pros: Ambiance, Dessert, View of kitchen Cons: Wait almost too long more

Impeccable service and great food 2/28/2005

Service was really excellent here. Extremely attentive without ever seeming like they were hovering. Striped bass was well-prepared and fresh. The salad was the same. more

A great lunch date 2/12/2005

We had a great lunch one past tuesday afternoon. Our server was downright gracious and the food was nothing short of phenomenal. I highly recommend anything from their dessert list, our pecan crusted passion fruit cheesecake with gingered pineapple was borderline life changing. more

Not Accomodating and Dishonest 6/25/2004

I had spoken to the ""large party coordinator"" for the restaurant in order to make a reservation for a party of 15 one month ahead of time. He had said that they cannot accomodate large parties until after 9pm, which was understandable due to the size of the restaurant. When I requested to make a reservation for after 9pm, he responded unregrettably that he cannot accept my reservation at all, with no reason. He had contradicted his own statement and was dishonest. This occurred the day after I had spoken to a hostess from the restaurant who reassured me that if I spoke to the ""large party coordinator"", I would be able to make a reservation because of the numerous availabilities. Cons: , Unaccomodating more

Great place 6/9/2004

The food was wonderful, service was excellent, a little tight space but it wasn't too much to deal with. The Bar seems to take up a lot of space, but we were there on a Saturday night and the smallness wasn't too bad. The food was AWESOME and our server so polite. He recommended a wine, and was absolutely correct to do so. Definitely make a reservation, because there is literally NO waiting area and you'd probably have to wait outside! Pros: Food, service, wine Cons: , only one bathroom more

Trendy but unpretentious 3/29/2004

Fork is a great restaurant. The atmosphere is great, but you could serve that food in a basement and I'd still rave about it. Everytime I go there (the menu is seasonal, so you never have the same thing twice) I feel as if the recipe was created just for my pallatte. Last time I was there the dessert was the highlight of the meal: A warm pecan torte with vanilla ice cream served with cranberry compote. I'll never be able to eat another dessert again. Pros: the dessert! more

Just okay 3/19/2004

The location is great and the atmosphere is good but they need improvements on the food and service. The hostesses were friendly but our waitress took entirely too long to address our table. Not to mention that they were out of certain items. My french toast was runny and I've had better. I must admit that my mimosa was great. Pros: Friendly hostesses, Drinks more

Yummy 3/14/2004

We chose Fork on a whim during a recent trip to Philly from Boston. The menu was so interesting and it was so difficult to choose. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish. Can't wait to go back. more

Highly Recommended!! 12/4/2003

Excellent food, nice atmosphere, great service...looking forward to our next visit. Cons: Parking, Parking, Parking more

Martinis? 11/15/2003

For a restaurant that is touted for it's good bar scene they should be able to make an Apple Martini. Go for the food and ambience- it's good. But the martini's/ Yeah not so good more

Where's the martinis????????? 10/18/2003

Although my husband and I had dinner here awile ago and had a very unpleasant experience, we decided to try it for cocktails on a recent Friday evening, since it won the 2003 editorial award for martinis. Well, to our dismay, after ordering an apple martini, our server informed us that they do not make them or any other fancy martinis! So, besides avoiding dinner, avoid the over-crowded noisy bar and go around the corner to Blue Martini. more

great for romantic bdays! 10/16/2003

i took my boyfriend here. call in advance and when reserving arrange for a slice of chocolate cake w/ a candle. so delicious. everything was sublime. the cosmos too! the eel, salmon and duck are amazing. the wine is good too. not too expensive for the high quality you get. defintely recommended Pros: beautiful interior, delicious food, good wine selection more

GREAT! 10/8/2003

This classy restaurant has it all! The atmosphere is very romantic and the food is excellent. Slightly overpriced, but a great place to go for a special night. Pros: Intimate , Excellent menu Cons: Average service more

Great Date Spot 5/20/2003

I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Our choice of an appetizer wasn't quite what we expected (essentially salad greens and raw tuna), but her pasta and my steak were excellent. The wine list has many well described selections and the dessert menu had the typical fare (cheesecakes, fruit crisp, etc.). The staff was friendly and responsive, which is not always the case at Penn's Landing area restaurants. Make reservations, and leave the kids with a babysitter. Pros: Responsive service, Unique menu, Eclectic wine list more

Several disappointing visits 3/29/2003

I've been to Fork four times and I've been annoyed at myself for returning. Lots of people have good experiences here, but each time I've visited the grilled meats and fish arrived overcooked and the rest of the dinners have been bland. Tables near the bar are so close to standing bar patrons that it's possible to be jostled in your seat. And it's noisy, although that's true of most of the hot Center City restaurants. Service is very friendly and efficient without being intrusive, the menu is nicely varied, and the prices aren't that bad. But the food isn't that good. Pros: Ambitious menu, Very good service Cons: Disappointing food, Crowded and noisy more

Overhyped 1/20/2003

The atmosphere is comfortable and makes for a good time, yet the food was only average. The service was also average. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there, but I wouldn't discourage it either. more

Philly's Best 12/21/2002

It's the best! If your looking for a great date place, this is it. The food is tasty and the menu is always changing for come back customers. The staff at the FORK are professionals, they carry themselfs well and know the menu. Eat at the bar, it is the best spot to see everything and to get good conversation. I think they could have a better bread assortment, the olive and white is getting boring, sometimes the bread is soft and you could feel it is from the day prior. Also sometimes the butter tastes like it was in the fridge too long. One of the owners Ellen Yin, she is great. Always making her rounds to each customer and checking on the quality. Pros: The bar, Nice menu Cons: the butter refg taste, bread needs changing more

Fork it over!!! 11/5/2002

This restaurant excelled at everything! The atmosphere, service and food were all top notch. The menu has some changes with the seasons but also keeps certain item on going. My salad of quail and frisse was fantastic! But my scallops were superb- cooked perfectly! The prices were really good- dinner for 2 each with a starter, entree, shared dessert and 4 glasses of wine was $88. We'll definately visit Fork again if we are back in Philly! Pros: great food, great value more

Terrific! 10/11/2002

I've been to Fork three times over the course of three or four years, and I've never been disappointed, but the meal I had this evening was the best thus far! The food is interesting, innovative, balanced and beautifully presented. I started with the duck pate with gingered pear (yum!), continued the most amazing pork chop and split two desserts-- chocolate cake and baked apple in phyllo dough. My friend said this was the best meal she's had in Philadelphia. Everything was wonderful! more

Great Dining Experience 9/2/2002

We took a friend to Fork for dinner for his birthday on Sunday night. Overall, it was one of the best dining experiences we have had in Philadelphia in a long time. Try to Carrot Fennel soup- it is excellent! more
