Excellent! 4/25/2010

The atmosphere and attitude of this restaurant was astounding. The waiters, the manager, everyone had a great sense of humor, were very enthusiastic, and, of course, were all Italiano. The food was top notch, a very authentic Italian cuisine. I could not recommend this place highly enough. I had a great time while I was there, was attended to very well, and was constantly entertained by the manager's friendly, over-enthusiastic attitude. This restaurant is a place that you must go to next time you are in San Francisco! Pros: Great service, extremely friendly, authentic, delicious more

Lucky Find 1/11/2010

A group of 6 stumbled upon this restaurant and had no idea what to expect. The staff was very friendly and set up a table. Cocktails, Wine and Food were excellent and the wait staff was very friendly. We enjoyed hearing about the history, favorite dishes and nice wine selection. Pros: Very accomodating for last second more

Best Italian in Town 2/9/2009

The oldest Italian restaurant in America! If nothing this place deserves 5 stars for remaining as an institution. But that should not mean the food is mediocre. Far from that, I've had the best veal dishes (marsala & picatta) and home made pastas at this place. Service is professional yet friendly. Pros: All you can eat pasta for $18.86 on wednesdays! Cons: Too much food more

Great place to dine! 1/24/2009

Fior D'Italia was fabulous! The decor is beautiful and the staff is friendly and welcoming, makes you feel like home. The food is one of the best italian I've eaten, I loved the cheese tortellini that was served before the main dish. I had a filet migon, it was tasty, cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. My husband had veal and loved it. We can't wait to go back again. Pros: Great Italian Cons: San Francisco parking normal more

Back again and still GREAT! 8/23/2008

First, the Fior d?Italia made us a great offer. For an additional $6 they let you turn your entree into a four course Italian feast. They gave us soup, salad and dessert for $6. Wow. Even without that our experience at Fior d?Italia was the best ever. Our waitress was so professional and helpful. Service was extraordinary and the food superb! What a great night that reminds you of what dining and service used to be in San Francisco. Too many times now we have been disappointed with ?yuppie? food and a server who wants only to be our friend- ?hi I?m Sally I?ll be taking care of you tonight?. Sound familiar? The Fior is real they really do take care of you. The best in SF in our opinion. Pros: Real Italian Food Cons: Large portions if you have a small appitite. more

Fresh pasta, nice sauces, slow service! 9/2/2007

Stopped by with no reservation on a Sunday night. We were dressed way too casual for this place (shorts and flip flops) so we asked to sit out front which they gladly allowed. It was a really nice night. Service out front was a little slow and I found myself constantly searching for the waiter, but when he was around his service was excellent. The table top was filthy and I would not let the silverware touch it. We started with a Caesar salad for two which was good, but unimpressive. I feel like I've had better Caesars at a chain like Carrabba's. I had a pasta dish with a pesto sauce which was good, but with so much sauce I felt like I was eating soup towards the bottom of the bowl. My companion had the fettuccine with meat sauce which was good even if it reminded me of Chef Boyardee. The food tasted good and was definitely fresh, but when I saw the $50 check for our meal I realized I would not be back. Considering we had two salads and a bowl of pasta and water to drink, I can hardly justify $25 each. more

Excellent Italian for ""locals"" away from touristy areas 8/7/2007

My wife & I went there based on tour guide recommendation, and had a wonderful dinner of authentic Italian cuisine. I had the lasagna which was succulent and not microwaved like some chain restaurants, and my wife had the fettucine al bolognese. At $15 ea/ and 2 salads and bread, we were full for $70 incl tax & tip. We had 7:30 reservations but were there 1/2 hour early & got a nice window seat, no problem. But at 7:30, patrons were lined up at the door, so make the reservation. Waiters wore tuxes (ours had 25 yrs' there), but I was not uncomfortable in Dockers shorts & polo shirt on a Sat. night. Higher end menu items did appear quite pricey (maybe norm for SanFran), but looked very good from what I could see. The place was very clean, and romantic, but I'm not sure I'd take little kids there. 2 blocks from Muni bus ride. Much better I suspect than the touristy North Beach row of garlic-heavy cliche Italian places. Pros: Freshness, authenticity, quality, heritage, and romance Cons: A bit pricey but deserved. more

THE BEST 8/5/2007

Fior is one of the best. My great grandfather first worked there when he came over from Italy and we havent stopped goin since. The food is great, but the atmosphere in the new resturant is not as nice as the old one (which is now dimaggios) but its still nice. One bad thing is that the valet is terrible and expenisve at the same time. i wouldnt mind paying $14 for valet when you recieve you car ontime and dont see the valet guy driving it around! In all its great! more

Best traditional Italian in town! 3/30/2007

I had one of the greatest dining experiences at the Fior. I finally got a chance to eat at the new location since the fire and I was amazed how they were able to maintain almost (except for the location) everything the same. You don't get that professional service and treatment everyday these days. And when you top that with an impeccible menu, you know you are in good hands. Can't wait till the next time I go there! more

The real San Fancisco 3/22/2007

We have been to the Fior d' Italia's new location (6th building I believe) several times. Talk about a classic. It is so much nicer tha the last location that got kinda old and worn out. The ""new"" place is very attractive and romantic. Got to be one of the best in the city. more

Good Wine list, older crowd, knowledgeable staff 7/1/2006

I moved here from Boston a year ago and am still looking for somewhere that beats the North End! Pros: Wine list, knowledgeable staff Cons: Food lacked flavor, veal was tough more

User review by aeharibo 11/22/2005

We've been waiting for it to open, and we were not let down! New to the area, we had to try it. The food and service was exceptional, and the romantic atmosphere added to the evening. more

Always Fantastic 10/5/2005

I've been coming here for years and the food and service have always been exceptional. I had the occassion to take a few out of town guests to dinner and Fior d'italia as always left them wanting more. The dinner was fabulous. Pros: food, staff, drinks Cons: parking more

wow 8/18/2004

This place is fantastic. Don't listen to the other critics, it must have been an off day. The place is EXPENSIVE, but it is worth it for a special date. I had the 55 dollar sampler, the appetizers were yummy. Chilled crab, fantastic fresh tomato, tasteless mozarella, and fantastic prosciutto. next came the caesar salad, yummy, nothing too fancy. the pasta was great though. 3 kinds, marinara, pesto (so creamy fabulous!) and some white cream ravioli, light alfredo i believe? finally, the meat course, 3 kinds, veal, steak, salmon, all were fantastic more

The Best of The Best 5/13/2004

I have never had such a great experience in an Italian Restaurant. Fior D' Italia is by far the best. The calamari was excellent and the veal to die for!The service was very professional and friendly, something you don't find that often. I strongly recomend this Restaurant if you want to enjoy good food and good service. Pros: Food, Service, Great wine list more

Loved it 4/28/2004

Took my family and had a wonderful time. Mateo was our waiter and was wonderful. Had a Caesar that was great. Fried calamari was real good even tho I read here it wasn't. They get it fresh from the East coast. My kids ate the tortellini. The wife's Halibut and my veal was fabulous. We had never tried Pumpkin ravioli and tho rich, was a treat. I liked the chef, Jonny, who came to the table to check out how we liked it. Recomend trying the booths in the dining room. If you like osso bucco, and comfort food, this is the place. We'll go back. Pros: Food, service, prices were ok Cons: , crowded bar more

Elegant Italian Restaurant 11/12/2003

I was suprised by the ambience, its elegant dinning area. It felt luxurious in comparison to other Italian Restaurants in North Beach. The food was modest. Tried the canneloni and tortelini. A bit expensive, service was adequate. Pros: Elegant Ambience, Romantic, Food came quickly Cons: Bad Parking, A bit expensive, Service normal more

Worst Restaurant Ever!!! 6/2/2003

My 2 friends and I went over the weekend to this restaurant thinking it was a really classy place and instead had the worst experience ever. The server ignored us for the majority of the time, and when he actually came to our table he was incredibly rude. The food didn't taste good. The caesar salad tasted like miracle whip mayonnaise. Even the ""manager"" was really rude! Tommy Lasorda may be a fan but I think Denny's has better service. Cons: Very overpriced., Horrible service, Gross food more
