My wife & I went there based on tour guide recommendation, and had a wonderful dinner of authentic Italian cuisine. I had the lasagna which was succulent and not microwaved like some chain restaurants, and my wife had the fettucine al bolognese. At $15 ea/ and 2 salads and bread, we were full for $70 incl tax & tip. We had 7:30 reservations but were there 1/2 hour early & got a nice window seat, no problem. But at 7:30, patrons were lined up at the door, so make the reservation. Waiters wore tuxes (ours had 25 yrs' there), but I was not uncomfortable in Dockers shorts & polo shirt on a Sat. night. Higher end menu items did appear quite pricey (maybe norm for SanFran), but looked very good from what I could see. The place was very clean, and romantic, but I'm not sure I'd take little kids there. 2 blocks from Muni bus ride. Much better I suspect than the touristy North Beach row of garlic-heavy cliche Italian places.
Pros: Freshness, authenticity, quality, heritage, and romance
Cons: A bit pricey but deserved.
