Worst

The food was below average at best. Wait staff was slow, slow, slow! Pros: looks nice Cons: our food was just not good

Oldest and the Best! 1/8/2003

Everything about this restaurant is great - the hosts, the waiters, the food, the ambiance, everything. I've been going to this restaurant for years and I won't ever stop. I've done two group events here and the service was wonderful. I can't imagine a better Italian restaurant. The location is also perfect. more

Tourists: Don't be trapped! 12/30/2002

I agree with the last reviewer who said the calamari was inedible. By far it was the worst I've ever had. We ate a few bites of the calamari and never finished the rest. One of the chefs came out and said, ""You didn't like the calamari""? I told him it tasted like rubber. He told my friend and I that we "" . . . must not have had calamari before"", and walked off in a huff. I've also always thought that its pretty hard to screw up pasta. They succeed in making it awful. On top of the terrible food, the bartender apparently thought he was doing us a huge favor by serving us drinks. Take it from a North Beach local - this place is truly awful. Pros: Valet parking Cons: Terrible food more

Finally a restaurant worhty of being called an Italian restaurant. Great food, excellent service and most of all, great value. Pros: Quick Service Cons: Limited Parking more

Worst Italian Food... Ever!!! 8/18/2002

Went to this restaurant for lunch last Sunday. I always passed by and was curious. In short, this is the worst Italian food I have EVER eaten. The calamari was inedible. Im not even sure it was calamari. I had gnocchi. It was terrible. It was mushy and the sauce tasted like spaghetti-os. My friends had pasta and both were unhappy. Even the iced tea was bad. All this and ridiculously high prices = steer clear, way clear. Cons: bad food, high prices more

The real deal 8/3/2002

It is always a relief to be waited on by a professional, as opposed to some philosophy-major college ditz who wishes they got that record store job. The waitstaff is so attentive, and our experience has always been so personalized. And the food! The pumpkin-stuffed ravioli is inspired, if sometimes a bit rich. The linguini tutto mare is hard to beat. The lasagne is usually ordered by our teen-age daughter, and she is a very picky eater in fancy restaurants. The house Merlot is better than most other Italian eateries. Don't go to sit in the front of the house unless you don't mind the noise and you just want to watch things go by (this is best done later in the evening). This is like eating in someone's well-apportioned living room with their uncle from Tuscany as your waiter. Pros: ambience, food, waitstaff Cons: parking more

Gotta Try It! 7/11/2002

After wandering the steets of San Fran trying to find the perfect restaurant, we found it when we stumbled into Fior d'Italia. The food was incredible - definitely try the chicken and veal cannaloni - and the service was great and also entertaining. I'd recommend making a reservation if possible because the main dining room fills up rather quickly. But, if you have to wait, it's well worth it! Pros: Breat Ambience, Incredible Food, Nice Wine Selection more

Authentic Italian... FINALLY!!! 6/5/2002

I'm surprised at a few of these harsh critiques. My boyfriend, who was born in Italy and lived there for 20 years, loves this place. This is his favorite Italian restaurant, which reminds him of mamma's cooking (and damn she's good). The lasagna is to die for, and many of the pastas are homemade! None of this fake Olive Garden garbage! It's a warm environment with a beautiful wooden bar..... molto buono! more
