Best

My wife and I have been going to Vo for a decade. Great service. Central Austin. I have never had an experience like any of the negative reviewers. THis is my go to place for cut...

Worst

I know you get what you pay for and I understand that being just a random strip mall nail shop you can't expect too much. But boy was I disappointed, that has got to be the faste...

I'm very satisfied 10/22/2008

I've been having my nailes done at Expo Salon for eight years. The shop is very clean and I never worry about infection or fungus. The work is very professional and I am always satisfied with the way my manicures and piedicures turn out. The people who work there are very reliable and never miss appointments. They are polite and seem to always put their customers first. They work around my schedule and are very flexible. I can only think of good things to say about the shop and the people who work there. more

A real salon. 10/22/2008

I love Expo Salon, I've been going to see Vo and Mickey for 10 years now. Let me tell you why.\r \r I have long, thick, curly hair. Getting my hair cut, highlighted, styled... is pricey. It's also risky not everyone knows how to cut curly hair. I was recommend to see Vo by a friend, and I haven't seen anyone since. This is not the salon in the mall, it isn't going to try to wow you with a fancy atmoshphere and spiffy drinks. They are gonna cut your hair beautifully, listen to your concerns, and also help you get past your fears of color! I was terrifed to put highlights in my naturally auburn hair ... i haven't looked back since the first time Vo did such an amazing job.\r \r I even had Vo and Mikey take care of me for my wedding. Vo has completely redone my hair before when I wasn't happy with the cut she gave me, she's totally open to honest criticism... she wants you to be happy with how you look.\r \r This *is* a family atmoshpere, and I for one enjoy going to see the folks at Expo. They take care of me, know my name, and never over charge me. Even with a hefty tip Vo charges me less for my wax/cut/color then I would pay anywhere else... by at least $75.\r \r I've read all these reviews, and for the negative ones I have to notice the biggest complaint is that sometimes Vo and her family speaks their native language. How horrible that your biggest issue is that they don't speak English. I'd be embarrased if I were you. more

Best Salon 10/21/2008

I've been going to Expo Salon for over 3 years now. I love this place! I get my hair colored and trimmed. The staff does an excellent job. The customer service is friendly and professional. I make regular appointments and never have to wait when I arrive. They always listen to my ideas about color and style and then do a great job on my hair. I've always had a positive experience. I get often get compliments on my hair color and attribute it completely to the staff at Expo Salon! \r \r I also get manicures and pedicures at Expo Salon (usually while the color sets on my hair). The nail staff is awesome, too! They are gentle and efficient. The spa pedicure here is my favorite... I love the stone massage. My nails and toes always turn out perfectly polished and pretty! The mani/pedi at Expo is an incredible deal... one of the best manicure/pedicures around and at an affordable low price!\r \r Expo Salon is a clean and professional salon. I've recommend this place to my friends and family who have loved the place, too. I love coming here on a regular basis and will continue to visit Expo Salon. It really is the best place for excellent and professional service with friendly staff and reasonable prices for hair and nails. Pros: Excellent color/cut for hair; Excellent manicure/pedicures; Clean/positive/comfortable atomsphere; Great location with plenty of parking more

Enjoying Expo 10/21/2008

I've been an Expo customer for the last two years or so. I get my hair trimmed and styled there regularly. It always looks great, and I receive compliments on it. Specifically, the last time I got my hair done, the most notable comments were: ""your hair is so nice and bouncy,"" and ""I like your hair that way, it makes you look more professional."" The employee there asked me how I wanted my hair done, and I told her a little shorter, and I pointed to a magazine. She got very excited, and said that it would suit my face. She then proceeded to efficiently cut and style my hair. I also go to Expo for waxing and nails. My nails are always done professionally, and the staff members are NEVER pushy. The waxing was done carefully and gently, and I am always pleased with the results. I have never been yelled at, ignored, or persuaded to buy a service. I've always gone into Expo with a set task (e.g. hair and nails) and left with great hair and nails. I highly recommend Expo if you want kind, professional, inexpensive salon services. Pros: Value of services, ambience and atmosphere more

Bad environment 10/20/2008

I went in for a mani/pedi combo just to try out the salon. I told them I wanted a basic pedicure, and was told over and over again about how I ""needed"" to get an upgraded pedicure. I finally gave in after the incessant whining got on my last nerve. My fingernails were painted much better than my toe nails were, though i got this upgraded pedicure. It looked like the pedicure was rushed compared to my manicure. Getting a pedicure should be relaxing, not pressured and quick! Cons: Pressure to upgrade pedicures, rude more

Not recommended 10/20/2008

I was ""taken care"" by the owner of this place. Ha! what a joke, the most unprofessional people in the world. I do not know how to color and cut my hair and that is why I go to a salon, but I have had my hair done enough times to know that what she was doing was very careless and a very lousy job. After she bleached my hair I saw how she was upset because he didn't have enough toner to put in my hair and she still ""used"" that empty bottle. You can imagine that my highlights are not nice. The most careless haircut I've ever gotten and the worst of all, when I got home I realized that she made some spots on the top of my hair with the bleach and is not like she couldn't realize when she was styling my hair. I don't know what she should have done after she realized she had ruined may hair, but to pretend that nothing happened I don't think is very professional. I don't know how the rest of the people in the salon work, I can tell you that the whole time everyone was joking and fooling around the whole time. more

hair coloring disaster 10/20/2008

very disappointed with my hair color; I had to go back for fixing and it still wasn't good; so I ended up paying someone else to take care of my orange hair! I was not shown the color she had picked for me...maybe she just wasn't experienced.... more

Bad experience 10/20/2008

I don't even know what that guy said to me when I walked through the door, something about hollering or haultering, I don't even know. The receptionist was fidgeting on some little phone when I asked if they accepted walk-ins. It took her a few minutes before she looked up and even acknowledged my presence. Then when I sat down the stylist acted like she was my best friend telling me about her current boyfriend trouble and how her sister was doing something wrong. I didn't realize that I was supposed to take on a psycologist role when getting my hair cut. Upon leaving the receptionist apparantly hadn't finished using her phone, because it took her a while before she took my credit card. I left completely the opposite of relaxed. Do not recommend to anyone. Cons: Receptionist, yelling upon entry, more

don't be fooled! 10/20/2008

i was fooled once into spending my money at this place but rest assured it won't happen again. i should've been more thorough with the reviews. the good ones don't even make sense and is just a bunch of rambling on and on about the same thing over and over. people are entitled to their opinions but when they sound like its coming from one person time and time again then there's something wrong. don't take my word for it if you're the experimental type but i'm not going to go somewhere to spend my money somewhere that's as genuine as a door to door salesman because that's exactly what i felt like, not a salon. Cons: insincere trashiness more

Be careful or you will end up on the wall of clients! 10/20/2008

I have gone to Expo Salon twice. The first time my experience was okay, nothing special. My second time though scared me. Somehow they had gotten a picture of me and one of my sister on their wall of clients! How in the world did they get my picture i dont know, but to get a picture of my sister??? She doesn't even live within a hundred miles from here! That is a little creepy. So I asked the girl at the front desk where she got my picture, and her only reply was ""oh i dont know."" That is reassuring to know that they dont know how my picture got up there, i guess it just magically appeared! Now I realize where I lost my those pictures my first time. Cons: wall of clients more

family atmosphere? is it a business or a holiday garage sale? 10/20/2008

I don't know about you ladies but I myself don't go to a salon to be made a part of the family. I think that's just a little too personal. There should be a sense of professionalism. I understand that being in a sales position the staff should be nice but man oh man is it tacky! Just TACKY! It's so blatant how fake they are in trying to invade your privacy whilst trying to up sell their service. The constant nagging for me to get my hair color is obnoxious when I'm just trying to have a mani no matter how much you ask about my personal life. You haven't seen people who won't take no for an answer until you met these people. Thanks for a terrible experience, one and only time customer Jessica Wayne. more

run while you still can 10/20/2008

This place is bad. Just plain bad. As raggidy and cheap as this place is, it sure aint worth my money and time. Even the most ghettorific shops on the east side do a lot better than this. Cons: Prices more

i honestly don't think they're up to code... 10/20/2008

I'm not a state expert or anything but I'm also not dumb either. But as a discerning consumer I know what's clean and what's obvious disregard for regulations. I don't think that just turning the water on and splashing it around a wee bit is going to clean the pedicure basin much, if at all, but that sure didn't stop anyone from using one several times as I sat there watching. I also noticed that it wasn't just with the nail service portion but also the hair service as well. Sometimes she would just sit customers down in chairs with the last customer's hair and random globs of coloring chemical still on the chair! It's hard to portray all the things that are just plain wrong, nor is there enough room allotted. All I can say is that I called the state and hopefully some things will be corrected. Cons: grossly underkept more

They call this a salon? 10/20/2008

For starters, there is enough hair on the floor to fill a bathtub, not to mention the random bottles of hairspray and various gels. I am glad I didn't wear my flip flops or I would have been treading through the field of hair trimmings just to get to my seat. If you are looking for a clean sanitary salon, stay away from here. Cons: HAIR HAIR HAIR EVERYWHERE more

huge mistake 10/20/2008

I thought I give this place a shot from reading the reviews on here but it wasn't until after my visit did I learn to look the good reviews more carefully. My they must have a passionate clientele base with all the yelling and such. In fact that was the initial incentive for my visit but once I got the chance to interact with these so called beauty professionals did I really sense the true chaos. And chaos is a bit light in fact I felt as though I was at a fish market. There was so much chatter I started thinking with an accent, and I don't even know what language they're speaking! lol Cons: you SHOULD visit just to understand what i endured haha more

Where did my hair go? 10/20/2008

I went in to Expo for a trim. I never expected to come out with a whole new look! Not one that I had in mind either. My hair stylist was a little rough to begin with. I did not realize how much hair she was cutting off until she turned me around and I looked in the mirror. What started as a minor trim ended up as the ""bob"" style hair cut that she told me was ""coming back in style!"" I do not appreciate anyone deciding what hair style I should have, regardless of what is ""coming back."" Thanks for a terrible job Expo, Debbie Parsons Cons: They think they know what is ""coming back in style."" Products are EVERYWHERE. more

HIGHLIGHTS FROM HELL!!!!! 10/20/2008

My experience at EXPO salon was anything but good. The lady that did my highlights made me look like a hard rock junkie with a blonde mohawk! I had to dye my hair again that night to fix her horrid job. I was too embarrased to even go out in public to get my hair fixed. Aside from a terrible job, I sniffed enough chemicals to lose half my brain cells. When I mentioned that the chemicals were a little strong, the lady gave me an evil look and told me that she didn't smell any chemicals. I guess she lost too many brain cells? There are definitely better salons out there, so I wouldn't recommend this one. Pros: Nothing comes to mind. Cons: TERRIBLE HAIR COLORING!!! more

shameful 10/20/2008

I tried this place out because it was supposedly such an interesting place but it turns out it was just a bunch of phoney reviews because it wasn't anything like what it was advertised to be. First off it took me like forever and a day to find the slum. The outside is run down and hidden behind a pile of garbage on the back of Goodwill. It's obviously old and run down on the outside but I'm thinking maybe it's not their fault because that's more of the landlord's job. Well I'd like to report that the inside is equally disturbing. There was so much stuff and random junk everywhere that they were just scrambling to throw things from one side to another in order to just make a place for me to sit. And once you're snugly tucked away between hair and nail clippings just kick back and enjoy a plethora of fumes seeping in your pores. Maybe that's intentional so it can drown out the exhausting foreign language ranting at one another. Cons: old and unmaintained, poor location, dirty interior more
