Hole.in.the wall full with crap. 5/12/2010

Decided to check this place out since the parking lot always seem to be full of cars, and what a disappointment. below are the analysis of what we had: 1. Cheese enchiladas with beef sauce: you'll fare better with hormel sauce pour from a can. In fact, the sauce tasted as thought it came from a can. 2. Carne Guisada: A pile of gooey, tasteless, unidentifiable 'meat' that has the color of vomit. 3. Chef's Special: a pile of iceberg lettuce, sprinkle with cubed tomatoes & a sour chunk of raw avocado. If you're looking for authentic, tasty Mexican food, there are MUCH better places 5 minutes north on Lamar, and they're also a few bucks cheaper. Save yourself the disappointment & go elsewhere. Cons: Crappy, tastely, yucky looking food. more

Once good resturant has now gone to the dogs... 4/29/2010

It is always sad when an establishment that was once great goes down hill this far. Over the last few years I have had my opinion of Enchiladas Y Mas fall till it landed on their dirty floor. They seem to have developed a disturbing lack of concern with regards to getting a customers order correct. Repeatedly I have had menu items ordered as vegetarian ( and described as vegetarian on the menu ) arrive at the table swimming in meat. Additionally a large number of the items that are on the menu are not actually the price listed. In fact , what happens is that the menu states (for example) ""vegetarian enchilada dinner"" come to find out at this restaurant that ""dinner"" is 2 enchiladas. period. If you were thinking anything like rice or beans would be part of an enchilada dinner you are wrong. You will be dealing with a la carte pricing across the board. Additionally God forbid you get any kind of salad along with your order as you will be charged for each component of that ""salad"" individually. I would have given it less than one star if I had the option. In reading the reviews it would appear to me that employees and maybe family members have been pumping up their rating, I label this restaurant a FAIL. Pros: no Pro's at this resturant, too many errors for too long Cons: poor attention to detail, intentionally misleading pricing more

Super Rude Cashier 4/23/2010

The cashier was so rude when I went to pick up my to go order. Besides the fact that it wasn't ready, and she wasn't smart enough to calculate my check so I could pay while I waited, she was a complete jerk. It's amazing how during such a brief encounter someone can be so snippy and rude. So much so that I chose rather to walk away empty handed than give them my business. The manager seemed only mildly apologetic. Too bad since I've been going there since before they moved to Anderson Ln. But with a million Tex-Mex options in Austin, who needs them? I'll go where my patronage is valued. more

TERRIBLE SERVICE 11/21/2009

When you take down the wrong order and serve the wrong food, you FIX IT and you offer something (even a small something) for free for the customer's service. You do NOT yell at the customer. You do NOT tell them they have to pay for something they did not order. It's restraunt 101 - do NOT GO HERE. Cons: Service was terrible more

Not very good 11/14/2009

Wonderful Tex-Mex 7/2/2009

Been going to this restaurant since they opened their doors. First time I went I tried their beef enchiladas and have been hooked ever since. Fajitas are fantastic and their Migas are to die for. I've always found the wait staff to be very friendly and accommodating. Prices are excellent and the iced tea is always fresh and good. Gets really crowded around lunch time so go early...you won't be disappointed! If I wasn't constantly on a diet I would eat there every day! Pros: Outstanding food and friendly staff Cons: zip more

long wait..but worth it 4/22/2009

I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews. I've enjoyed my food each and every time I've gone to this restaurant. It's extremely packed at lunch time, so be prepared for that, but the enchiladas are definitely worth the wait. more

Enchiladas y Mas 4/17/2009

The fajitas are great, definitely some of the best in Austin. The margaritas are marginal. The service is not what I would call warm or inviting, more like Seinfeld's soup Nazi. more

Poor Customer Service 2/6/2009

I am very disappointed with customer service at Enchiladas y Mas. I ate there last night for the first time and the new cashier was having trouble running my credit card. When she asked for help from the other employees, they said, ""we didn't get any help when we started, we had to figure it out ourselves."" Well, today I realized that my credit card was charged twice. I called the restaurant to let them know and the manager ""Eva"" said that I had to bring a copy of my statement to the restaurant so they could verify it was charged twice before they would refund my card. Eva stated that there was no way for them to look at their credit card charges from the previous night until the end of the month when they receive their statement. I will just call my credit card company to dispute the charge and I probably won't be going back to this place. There are several Mexican food restaurants in the area to choose from and I don't think this one is anything special, especially with poor customer service. more

Adios Enchiladas y Mas 12/17/2008

I am so disappointed with Y Mas. I have met and known of Robert Martinez since Jorge?s off of East Riverside in the 1970's. I have supported Robert as a great cook and what is now Enchilada y Mas. The other night we waited for our food for over 45 minutes. That was not so bad, except that the people who had been seated long after we were, had been served their food and were eating. When the waiter finally came with our food, I expressed that I would not be paying for tonight?s meal. He said that I would have to talk to the manager. She came to the table and expressed that I would pay for the meal or I could leave. We left, but not without sadness of a restaurant that thinks not of their customers, but only to hustle people in and out with no concern of service or respect of customers who have been loyal to Austin's long time business owner Robert Martinez. The manager expressed they had plenty of loyal customers. Now they have two less. Adios Enchiladas y Mas, Robert Martinez and the wait staff that I have enjoyed for many years. more

Still the closest to the original Jorge's there is 11/17/2008

I am only writing after seeing the disappointing interviews below. I have know Ro and the Hernandez family since 1978. I have lived many places and have yet found mexican cuisine as good as this. If you ask for I will travel 3-4 times a year back to Austin and I must have my fix the first day..the Huevos Borrachos are great and the cheese (JT) enchiladas have no equal.\r \r For tex Mex in Austin this is the place to go. more

More than Enchiladas! 7/24/2008

Being listed as one of Austin's top 10 lunch spots we had to try it out. Although the reviews were mixed here on Citysearch we read carefully and planned our trip early around 11:00A to avoid the crazy wait and questionable service. We arrived at 10:55AM and were promptly sat. Iced teas came almost as quickly and I had to start with the large guacamole dip. After the first bite I moved the bowl from the center of the table to in front of me. I was not sharing. The menu was full of Tex Mex, but the American section caught my eye and I decided to try the Cheeseburger. The rest of my party had the Comida Regular, a combo of a crispy taco cold plate and a pile of enchilladas rice and beans as high as the pyramid at Uxmal. My cheeseburger was large, juciy, seasoned perfect with a pile of lettuce, tomato and mayonaise, exactly the way I ordered it. The chips were thin like I like them and the salsa perfectly spicy. Service was attentive, but I can see when the places fills up it would be a problem. We will be definitely adding this Anderson Ln eatery to our rotation of lunch spots. Pros: Portions were huge; go hungry!! Cons: No separate checks; no seating of incomplete parties more

Less than bad. 7/5/2008

I'm not sure how they did it, but they somehow have managed to make Taco Bell look like fine Mexican cuisine. I take it that this was a fine restuarant 5-10 years ago. As of now, a huge disappointment. Pros: If your colon lacks natural bacteria, this could be an excellent place to ""germ up"". Cons: Nightmare food quality. more

Horrible customer service and the food is worse 4/22/2008

To be concise, the food is horrible and overpriced for the lack of quality...the staff is rude...and the place had a bad smell...I wonder if they even passed a health inspection. It appears they have gone completely downhill reading the other reviews. I guess I am happy I did not get a piece of hair in my food...yuck! Cons: too many to write here more

A Hairy Experience 4/8/2008

First, I thought this was a good restaurant until I found a short, curly black hair in my food today. I complained to a staff person, but she was unsympathetic. She stated that it was probably my hair. I am blonde, so short, black curly hairs do not fall from my head. I just hope it was from someone's head and not from somewhere else south of the border. Next time you decide to eat here, ask if they USE hair nets and not just own them as you might lose your appetite pulling a hair out of your mouth. I might have tolerated my experience better if they were willing to apologize. I did not even get my money back for my take-out order. Even the food was below average. There are two other Mexican restaurants near Enchiladas y Mas that are much better...go there for better food without the hair. Pros: if you need hair in your food, then this is your place! Cons: if you do not like cheap tex-mex especially with hair, this is not your place more

Not worth your money or your time 4/8/2008

I totally disagree with the 2006 descrition of this place. They completely messed up my order and would not take it back. Even eating what I did not order I could tell the ingredients were cheap. Made me think that you could buy an El Paso taco kit and make a better taco and salad. Who knows, maybe they use a taco kits in their kitchen. Another minu is their horrible salsa. I get better salsa from a jar from the grocery store. Another tip...Asians do not go there...the hostess was very friendly to a Spanish speaking customer but immediately gave me a hard time despite just standing in line for my order. This is just a bad restaurant. Cons: ingredients, service, bad, very bad food more

back in the good ole days 3/29/2008

This place use to be really good. 2-3 years ago. The hot sauce is made from canned tomatoes and taste bad(old). The food was not good, bad cheese and not hot enough. The fajitas use to be great, now they sux. And yes, they started mopping the floor when my party was about to eat, at 3:00 pm. Poor service on refills. Pros: use to be good a few years back Cons: now it is not good more

Used strong cleaning solutions while we were dining 11/12/2007

I was absolutely disgusted!!! They started cleaning before our food came out and the smell was horrible. This ruined any chance of us enjoying our food. The food wasn't good (or it just could have been altered by the smell in the dining room). I went here because it was recommended here, but after this will not be back. Cons: Strong cleaning solutions used while we were dining /smelled horrible more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! 8/24/2007

I will never be ordering from this restaurant ever again after the awful service I received. I called in for a pick up order, the person was distracted and rude and did not read my order back to me - when I came to pick it up it was wrong and I was actually yelled at!!! They demanded to know who would be paying for the incorrect food and took over an hour to finally produce the correct dishes. This place needs a SERIOUS readjustment!!! Cons: WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED!!!! more

Just plain Tex Mex 8/9/2007

If you are looking for some fancy Tex-Mex or you are used to Cal-Mex or some other form of Mexican food(Yankee-Mex?), the this is not the place for you. This is pure Tex-Mex not to be confused with more traditional Mexican food. Their fajitas are just simply the best that I have had in town, although they are not for the weak as they can be pretty spicy. Their salsa is also fresh made and can also vary from fairly hot to scorching. I can't say their margaritas are the best, but they are good enough(sometimes a little too good). It can get very busy so if you go during peak business hours , expect a little wait. Pros: GRREEAT Fajitas Cons: Can get crowded. more
