El Loro Mexican Restaurant

Worst service ever. Do not go here. The hater bartender didnt listen to us when we ordered Steak Fajitas for two. Instead we got steak, shrimp, pork, and chicken. What the? We politely explained the situation and in return received greasy, oily, nasty steak fajitas an attitude from the broad behind the bar. They spoke badly about us in Spanish. Its my fault you got the order wrong? HATERS....YES MAKE EXCUSES FOR YOUR HORRIBLE SERVICE! AND Yes, some white people speak SPANISH, we are not all GRINGOS! more

Eagan is effectively a giant wasteland for food; unless you want to eat at some godawful chain restaurant, you're pretty much out of luck. There are a few bright spots, and El Loro is one of the brightest of those. They serve well-prepared, authentic food, and, importantly, they're very consistent--this isn't one of those restaurants where you're blown away one time and get inedible drek the next time. I've never had a bad meal here, and I've eaten at El Loro more than any other restaurant in town. In particularly, I highly recommend their verde sauce. Great stuff. This is easily my favorite restaurant to go to ever. They start you off with endless warm tortilla chips and fresh salsa and what I think is a ranch style sauce. The service is quick and you get free refills (which they're very quick with keeping up with also). The food is out of this world, I can't think of anything I've had that I didn't like. If you like something more plain, the chicken quesadillas are amazing, the chicken is deliciously tender and juicy, and there's just enough yummy cheese sauce to hold it together without it being overwhelming. Then there's more complicated dishes like the enchiladas with mole sauce. I didn't know that this sauce was made with chocolate the first time I had it, and now that I do know, it's all the more amazing. Even something as simple as freshly brewed iced tea is great there. Most restaurants I won't order it because it tastes like brown water, but here they actually brew it for long enough- it's wonderful to actually be able to order a drink I like.\r \r (FYI- For those that said it's not ""authentic"" mexican food, my husband is not only from Texas, but also part mexican, and he says this food reminds him of what his grandmother makes. REAL mexican food isn't supposed to be incredibly spicy, you put on however much hot sauce you want after, which is exactly why at El Loro they provide you with three different kinds of hot sauces at every table.) This resturant is one of the best places to eat in the city. The service is wonderful and fast. Whatever you end up getting it will come within 10 min. and will be very hot. My friends and I go here all the time and it is sooo hard to pick something new every single time I go because the chicken chimi's are so good. The food isn't expensive and you get a lot for the money. The chips and salsa is great to! My best advice, go there as soon as possible!!!!!! I was really excited to try this place after a friend recommended it, but wow was it horrible! I ordered a small margarita and vegetarian option A which included a tostada, bean burrito, and cheese enchilada. The food arrived very quickly, but maybe they should have taken more time to prepare it. My plate was basically a big soupy mess. Everything was covered in nasty enchilada sauce that tasted like Chef Boyardee spaghetti sauce, and the beans had run all over everything as well. There was no spice or good flavor at all! Even the salsa, which was free with chips, tasted like it came from a can--it was basically like watery tomato sauce. I tried to at least stomach the enchilada but couldn't even get that down, as it was just too saturated in greasy sauce and beans. My Amy's Organic frozen enchilada meal I had for lunch this week was way better than my meal at El Loro! \r The margarita tasted like it came straight out of one of those bottled mixes you can get at any store, and they don't even offer different flavors or the option of blended vs. on the rocks. Maybe I'm spoiled by the great food and margaritas that places like Bar Abilene offer? Either way, I will not be back to El Loro. You can't get Mexican food like this anywhere else in the Twin Cities. It is not Americanized. I have tried the chorizo soft flour tacos which come with sour cream and cheese and I tried the beef enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. I love this food. I live closer to Ol Mexico and La Casita, but my wife and I enjoy driving the 11 miles to this spot for a weeknight treat. My wife says the tomales have too much corn and not enough meat (southern Mexico style). Pros: Great food, prompt seating, no reservations more

Finally!! A non-corporate-chain Mexican restaurant that still offers FREE CHIPS and SALSA!! Even better, the cream sauce they supplement the salsa with. I take many friends here and they all love it. The best deal is the tacos---I've tried the enchiladas, burritos, etc. and was not impressed. But I haven't found tacos this good anywhere in MN!! The cheese is the best part. And the beans and rice are great. Dessert here is ok. In short, I can only recommend the taco dish. This is so good, it makes it on my top ten restaurants list despite the fact I don't like much else. Staff are quick and friendly. Always plenty of families dining here, too. If you're a Mexican food snob, do not go here. HOWEVER, the combination of ""good"" mexican food, GREAT prices, and speedy service can't be ignored! I usually go during lunch as I can get in and out in a half hour. Since the drinks are average at best, I think this place is best for a quick bite for lunch. ...the cream sauce for the chips is better then expected as well?!?!?! Ver disappointed. I'm from South Texas and this was not Mexican food. I ordered a combo plate and all 3 items tasted and looked the same. They was no Pico, just a plate full of red saute. I go to El Loro ALL the time!! I think it is a great place, the food is quick, hot, and REALLY good. I think it is the most authentic Mexican restaurant in the area!! The service is awesome - I don't think I have ever asked for a refill, the server is all over it. Definitely my favorite place to eat...it reminds me of being in Mexico...I love it!! I like this place, easy to get in. They have a mariachi band that plays there. The food is great, pleasant atmosphere, and easy on the pocket book. Good for a quiet place to eat, or bring the entire family. A++++. more
