I am super impressed by this place. I can afford to eat here, AND it's delicious. Their combo platters are great - both the vegetarian one and the regular meat n veggie comb (my r...

Tales of a Bland Palate 5/1/2006

I have a bland palate (oatmeal is about as spicy as I can take it) so the suggestion to go to Enat was far from enticing. But I ventured away from my British/Scottish ways and LOVED it. I got a bunch of things that weren't too spicy but were really flavorful. I am excited to go back. It was also really cheap for the amount of food. more

Ethiopian, yes. Enat, no. 12/30/2005

Ethiopian is an interesting experience that everyone should try at least once - but maybe not at this particular restaurant. I've heard the Blue Nile is good. All the dishes come served on injera bread, which tastes like a slightly sour thin pancake. It's placed in the center of the table for your group to share - but you should know some customs. No silverware, you wrap your lentils and potato in injera bread. Only reach into the "community" food with your right hand, because your left is offensive. When in doubt, go vegetarian. Oh, and it's tradition to feed your neighbor or date the first bite. more

Cold smoky restaurant, cold food with hair in it 12/8/2005

We were really excited to try Enat for our friend's birthday. The restaurant was freezing nside, and everyone had to leave their coats on the entire meal to stay warm. The atmosphere inside was extremely dirty and disheveled, and they took no effort to keep the bar area smoke from filling the dining area. Service was slow even though we were the only people in the place. When our food finally arrived it was already cold, but we were starving and dug in. The food was ok - but halfway through the basket, we found a huge wad of hair mixed into the lentil dish. Everyone was so disgusted that we left hungry, and cold. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are far better places to enjoy a warm, tasty, hair-free meal. more

Enat Ethiopian Cuisine 7/23/2005

Enat is a really, really good restaurant. Ethiopian food comes served with injera bread, a sour tasting bread, that is pulled apart and used to pick up the tasty dishes, that also happen to be spread out on a bed of injera bread. Our favorite dish is the vegetarian combo, a delicious mix of lentils, potatoes, veggies, all spread out over a platter of injera bread. This meal easily feeds 2 people for a cost of less than $10.00. I also like the kitfo, or raw ground beef mixed with spices. I know it sounds like a turn off to many, but trust me all you beef lovers: you'll love it. And besides, next time you're in an Ethiopian restaurant, remember the adage: "when in Rome, do as the..." more

Good food at a great price 4/22/2005

Enat is a small Ethiopian Restaurant in the Northgate neighborhood. About 2/3 of the building space is dedicated to dining tables and the rest is divided between the bar and a small dance floor. The food is usually very good, and a combination plate easily feeds at least 2 people for about $10. If you are not familiar with Ethiopian food, a variety of dishes are served on a giant piece of sour, spongy, bread (called injera). 2 large pieces of Injera are also served on the side. You don't use utensils of any kind other than your hands. Break off a piece of the Injera and use it to pick up the food. Although the restaurant is small, we have never had to wait for a table. more
