Best

Great place to go after work. I've been here several times, I've always had great service and i love trying...

Worst

The sushi is incredibly bad. The drinks were imaginative, I'll give them that, but the food is horrible. I rice was dry and the fish bland. Cheap does not mean good value. If ...

Sushi in bar not very good 1/14/2007

I have gone to Dragonfish a few times and always leave disappointed with the sushi. I have sat in the bar everytime and while I've had good service, the sushi isn't that great. The happy hour prices are great, but you defiantly get what you pay for. Pros: Good service and nice ambience Cons: Not very tasty sushi more

Great for a special occasion 12/12/2006

I go here for the appettizers, entrees, and the mixed drinks. Try the chicken lettuce cup and the curry chicken. I haven't had anything here that I didn't like, although I swear the Dragonfire Chicken was hotter the first time I had it (a couple years ago). Their desserts are normally excellent. I still remember this lime kiwi dessert they had once upon a time, mmmmm. The portions are huge, and my family always ends up with leftovers, since we can't decide what to share. The prices are moderatly high, which is expected given the area and the restaurant itself. The service is normally friendly and quick. Pros: food, portions, drinks Cons: price more

Great for non-sushi lovers too 11/17/2006

A group of us went out for sushi and one guy didn't care for sushi but was impressed with their other menu items (a bit overprice I thought). The sushi was good and the atmosphere is great. Pros: friendly service Cons: cost, parking more

YUmmy 11/15/2006

Food was awesome, but somewhat overpriced. As for sushi, selection was limited, not a place to try sushi at its best. Waitstaff was great, very helpful with explanation of menu items. Pros: food Cons: parking more

Movie and a dinner 10/9/2006

Watch a movie at the theater across the street and stop in for some good asian cuisine. I'm rating this average overall, but this is really a great place to take a small group because there is something for everyone. Sushi, chinese, thai, you name it. I wasn't impressed with the curry. didn't come with rice, so unless you drink it like miso, you're not going to get all of it. Kung pao was average, but lacking on the peanuts and other veggies. Spring rolls hitt the spot, and the sauce was good. Service was average, and we were seated immediately (Sunday night). more

Best Happy Hour in Portland !!!! 8/27/2006

The sushi prices rocked, and the rolls and negiri tasted great. Awesome atmosphere, the kind of place you can take a date to or just go down for a few drinks and a good time. The staff was more than friendly and also quite knowledgable of the menu leading me to great dining experience. Go to Dragonfish and you wont be disapointed! Pros: Awsome bar layout, fun bar staff, Strong drinks Cons: Bar opens late, limited seating when it is busy more

Overpriced and bland, not a happy hour deal 8/18/2006

Never again! I went there for happy hour. This cafe is supposed to be pan-asian, but it's anything but. Asian food is supposed to be flavorful, but Dragonfish's version was very lacking in that area. The ribs were tiny, over boiled, and over priced. The chicken thing was almost uneatable. The sushi was also small and overpriced (you can get better for a better deal at just about any other happy hour place that have sushi). Their cuisine is ""meant to be shared"" but I really don't see how...the portions are way too small. That's saying a lot since I'm not even a big eater! Pros: the logo is cool Cons: the HAPPY HOUR FOOD! small portions, bland food more

rude service and overpriced, average food 3/27/2006

On our first trip to Dragonfish, also our last;we went in the hotel entrance, not knowing about the main entrance, sat down and were ignored for at least a half-hour. When we spoke up,asking for service,we were upbraided by the young lady who was bussing tables, etc. The food was way overpriced and was way average. We will never go back. more

Not the best, but still worth it. 3/21/2006

Portland has some amazing sushi, and this place isn't really one of them. BUT! their happy hour IS a deal to be had. Pros: location more

Great lunch value 9/29/2005

We were visiting Portland last weekend and had lunch at the Dragonfish. We found the food very fresh, the value for lunch very good, and the service responsive. We ordered the salmon dishes and were not disappointed. A side comment. When posting reviews, if one believes there are better restaurants of the same cuisine, they should note it in their reviews. It would give the reader other options and and opportunity to compare. Pros: Fresh, Good Service, Very Tasty more

Consistent 8/12/2005

I've been to Dragonfish numerous times, both in Portland and Seattle, and I've found their food and service to be consistently pleasant. Slightly overpriced -- but that's expected considering their location. I recommend the honey walnut shrimp and green curry chicken. Pros: friendly waiters, fast service, good food Cons: overpriced more

Overrated 8/8/2005

It took us a while to finally make the time to check out this restaurant that was in all the dining articles. We were extremely looking forward to it, only to be met with bland food and bad service. There are tons of great asian food places just in and around downtown Portland where you can get decent prices with outstanding food quality. Dragonfish is certainly not one of them. As for service, we were herded in and then pretty much ignored for much of the time we were there. The waitress was flat-out rude and we left, feeling insulted and dissatisfied. Pros: location Cons: food, service more

Good Service & Good Food 8/7/2005

My husband and I have chosen The DragonFish Cafe' as one of our favorites. We have always had excellent, friendly, and quick service. One reason we've liked this restraunt is that the food is made with fresh ingredients, Its brought out when its ready, encouraging you to share your warm meals. Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere more

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR 8/6/2005

Well, I have read the other reviews and it seems like people think they paid too much for the quality of food and service. In my opinion, having eaten at numerous sushi restaurants in dozens of cities, you get exactly what you pay for here. The sushi was good, but not great. It was fresh, and the ahi was exceptional. You can watch them prepare your food if you sit at the bar (which we did), and the sushi chef was fastidious in washing his hands, as well as in keeping the prep area clean. We ordered several dishes and, aside from the bread pudding, we did not have a bad dish. The service was spotty at first, as they were dealing with the remnants of a wedding reception, but picked up appreciably after the reception was over. Overall, for the price we paid in Portland, we were not disappointed. Pros: Ahi tuna (fresh), service, price Cons: Limited selection more

Total Waste 5/2/2005

This place is the most overrated sushi restaraunt in the world. If you really do enjoy good sushi, this is not the place for you. All sushi tastes the same here. Very bland. Even the wasabi sucks (not hot at all). The service was scant at best. Never going here again. more

Start your Happy Hour here! 3/24/2005

the happy hour menu is a steal !!! sushi is great to start with and the drinks are worth the dollars. great venue to: tons of downtown'ers and hotel guests. Great to meet folks from out of town. the miso soup is one of the best in town: not too salt and the price is right. can be loud but that's fun for happy hour. windows that are at sidewalk level add for fantastic people watching. Pros: Sushi prices, exotic drinks, beer selection Cons: loud, tight space but fun more

Excellent Pan Asian! 1/16/2005

I disagree with the previous reviewer. I found Dragonfish very flavorful, sushi and japanese dishes are top quality and extremely fresh. I have not had the dinner, only lunch (yet). Recommend box lunches, great value, but prepared fresh. Lovely atmosphere and service is also good. I will be back. Pros: Asian food, service, clean restaurant more

Quite pleasantly surprised 1/14/2005

We arrived at 6pm on New Year's Eve, no reservation & needing to be at our movie by 6:45 - the hostesses were quite gracious, we were seated immediately at the bar & promptly greeted by the engaging waiter. We ordered a couple of appetizers for our meal (spicy ginger chicken was an unbelievably delicious concoction!), which were delivered quickly, and our drinks were quickly refilled when necessary. On any given night I would have been impressed with the service, food, and promptness but particularly so on New Year's Eve. It was the perfect choice for a pre-movie meal. Pros: Deeelicious, Prompt, Pleasant staff more

Bland food 11/30/2004

Just had to say we got back from Dragonfish and were not pleased at all. The food is very bland with no flavor and just not worth it. The tuna we had tasted stale and old. My boyfriend is a chef and really knows his food and he had nothing good to say about this food. Although I am not as picky, I didn't think it tasted too great. We had the ahi tuna salad which had noodles mixed with greens, which is not a good combination. The Classic poke tasted old and just gross. We are definite foodies and were not impressed at all. The sake was great though and the ambiance was nice. Our waitress was nice and comp'd our poke because it was bad. Too bad the food doesn't match the service. Pros: service, ambiance Cons: , food, food more

The Worst 9/29/2004

Dinner at Dragonfish was the worst restaurant experience of my life! The drinks took 20 minutes; our appetizers showed up AFTER our entrees; and then they screwed up our bill! AND I have never been treated so poorly by a manager when we tried to complain. Dragonfish needs to work on their service if they ever intend to be an ""upscale"" restaurant. But I will NEVER recommend Dragonfish to anyone... ever! Cons: , FOOD, MANAGMENT more
