Best

Great place to go after work. I've been here several times, I've always had great service and i love trying...

Worst

The sushi is incredibly bad. The drinks were imaginative, I'll give them that, but the food is horrible. I rice was dry and the fish bland. Cheap does not mean good value. If ...

Great Times 5/31/2004

Dragonfish is not your average hoytie-toytie downtown eatery... so snobby restaurant goes beware! You will get great food at a great value, and even though the service isn't always 100%, you get what you pay for. That's way it is called Dragonfish Asian CAFE, not bistro or restaurant. So please, next time you visit, take a look around, enjoy the scenery and the beautiful fishtank. The people watching is great! Just please, leave your crass attitudes at home. Pros: Great Late Night Eats, Yummmmmy Drinks, Awesome Location! more

NOT THE EXPECTED... 5/2/2004

I'm not sure what the deal is, but I didn't get a warm feeling when I entered this restaurant. We came in from the hotel entrance, since we were staying at the Paramount and there were a couple of the staff just sitting around talking and didn't even bother to seat or greet us. We waited for a little bit before anyone noticed us and then got a ""Sake Flights"" (four different flavored sake's) ordered. The sake was good and took the edge off and the dishes we ordered were decent. My fiance and I didn't feel that the food was worth the price, but it did hit the spot. I personally thought the rice was too sticky, but my fiance loved it. I would recommend it for a place to eat and drink something small, so you aren't spending too much money for items that are not worth it. Pros: Good drinks, Not overly crowded, Decent food dishes Cons: , Bad service, Impersonal atmosphere more

Great Food & Service! 2/14/2004

I took my Valentine to dinner at Dragonfish, and we had superb food and incredible service. Sometimes, especially on extremely busy nights, the service can seemed rushed and impersonal, but from the moment we walked in the door, until the moment we left, everyone was very polite, gracious and welcoming. It was our first time to try Dragonfish, but it will not be our last! Pros: friendly service, excellent food, good value more

P's & Q's 12/3/2003

The food here is fine. The atmosphere is inviting and warm. I always find myself wanting to go into this restaurant. The problem is that the culture of service here is unfriendly and pretentious. In one visit here, the server discouraged ordering a side of rice since we had already ordered an entree that included noodles. She said something about two starches. Another time we were ignored because we entered from the Hotel instead of the street. We discovered our error, but the host was rude even after we stepped over to the other entrance. Good luck if you try to eat here and mind your P's and Q's. more

It's cheap so quit whining 12/1/2003

I've paid more for sushi that wasn't this good, so come during happy hour and enjoy yourself. If you want an Asian place that's trendier with better food, head over to Saucebox, but be prepared to pay a lot more (not that there's anything wrong with that). Service here is so-so, depends on the night and the crowd I guess. Oh and their drinks are quite good, but if you like beer, go for the Kirin Lager. It's smooth and dry. Pros: cheap, good location, somewhat trendy Cons: average food, spotty service more

Bad 'asian' food! 9/2/2003

East asians, or anybody else who wants to eat authentic and tasty asian food, mark my word - PLEASE DON'T COME HERE!!!! This is a place for people who want to get fooled thinking that they're eating asian food. Dumpling looked like raviolis, and had more flour than anything else... One of the so-called thai dishes we ordered came out looking more like pasta (taste was just so so)... And, the final straw was the sushi that had imitation crap (oops, i meant crab) meat with simply one of the worst sushi rice that I've tasted in my life (it was soggy and tasted stale). Ohh, i forgot, actually, the final straw was that the price didn't match the taste whatsoever. I don't mind paying the big $$$, but please please please, don't dish out crappy stuff and name it 'pan-asian' or whatever you want to call it! Pros: nothing! Cons: everything! more

Horrible food! 8/17/2003

I had the asparagus & beef dish, and my boyfriend had the bulgogi steak dish. He asked for medium rare & he got it well done. My dish was a major disappointment. The sauce was too strong. Everything was drowning in it. The noodles weren't properly cooked, so I had a hard time chewing. Even my coke was flat. We had a shrimp tempura roll, but it didn't wow me. We might go back to try their dim sum brunch, but we are very disappointed with their dinner. It was not worth $40. Pros: Nice decor Cons: Overpriced more

A great start to an evening out... 7/14/2003

Went to Dragonfish with a friend based on recommendations by other friends. Was not dissapointed! We made reservations and were seated promptly. Service was efficient and helpful (wasn't sure what kind of Sake to order, and waitress was very helpful with this). Setting is elegant without being stuffy- you could dress to the nines or wear jeans and a t-shirt. Carmael Ginger Chicken and Thai Beef Salad are delicious! Can't wait to return for dim sum brunch on Sat/Sun Pros: unique flavors, excellent service, nice decor/ambiance Cons: a bit pricey, portions a bit small more

GREAT dessert/service 4/10/2003

The fusion cuisine is serviceable (read: not worth the prices) but the dessert & the solid service will bring us back. We didn't have to ask for the basics (refills of drinks, for instance) & didn't have to beg to have dishes taken away & the bill delivered. Amazing how many restaurants can't even get this rudimentary stuff right. Try the banana cream pie w/ chocolate ice cream. WOW!!! more

You can do better 3/25/2003

Interesting, pretty but not always successful food. Good calamari dishes and coconut shrimp, but the duck rolls were heavy on rice, light on duck and the dipping sauce couldn't save them. As for the sushi, I'd have to agree with the reviewer who rated it as being about what you'd expect to find at Safeway. What really brought us down, however, was the bored unknowledgeable and condescending staff. Was talking to folks at work about our experience there and two colleagues who had also tried Dragonfish agreed. We see no reason to go back. Pros: Pretty place, Pretty food Cons: Slow kitchen, Servers, Servers more

well ... 2/28/2003

My first time eating at dragonfish was a mixed bag. The food was great, but the waitress I had was condescending and rude. Perhaps she had a bad day, but nothing could explain why my credit card was billed for more then I authorized it. I left less than 20% tip on the bill, because our waitress visited our table three times, we sat a half hour between appetizer and entree, and i never did get the water i asked for. When calling the restaurant about the overcharge, I again was condescended to and it was explained to me that the restaurant ""holds"" onto the bill plus 20% ... ""in case"" i forgot to tip properly. Poor service, decent but not great food, good atmosphere. I'm not going back. more

Wonderful dessert 2/10/2003

Only tried lunch, but what deals they have. Order a Bento box - we're not talking the cart variety - for about $8. The caramelized chicken was good too. Their special almond dessert is one of the best sweet treats in the city. more

Great Saturday Night 1/21/2003

My wife and I happened to find a last minute babysitter on a recent Saturday night, and we made a late reservation for Dragonfish. The food was exceptional, the Ahi, and Scallop Ceviche was done just right with just a touch of spice. The sushi is first rate, and our entrees of Bulgogi Beef and the Chicken and Shrimp special were great. The service remains inconsistent but the food will bring us back. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Value Cons: Service more

Disputing Tasteless Reviewer 12/19/2002

For a annual holiday dinner between friends, we choose Dragonfish. After making the reservation, I read a review giving Dragonfish a low rating on the food. We still proceeded to attend Dragonfish despite the review. We had a wonderful time, not to mention the cuisane!! We ordered the Thai Coconut Curry Chicken and we were soooo impressed. The array of flavor was not what the reviewer had implied to us. Thank you Dragonfish!! We have found a wonderful restaurant for sushi and other Asian Cuisane!! Pros: Rose Roll/Vegisan rol, Miso Soup Cons: Parking more

Ho Hum 12/15/2002

I do not know how you take Thai coconut curry chicken and make it boring and near tasteless, but Dragonfish has done just that. Plus buried perfectly good salmon in a cloying teriyaki sauce, and served up sushi the quality of which I can get at Safeway. The service was pleasant enough, the waitress apologized repeatedly for taking 15 minutes to get to my table. Stopped in to see if this place was worthwhile for an upcoming date, glad I am going to avoid the embarrassment of bringing her here. Pros: Nice decor, clean restrooms Cons: bland food, slow service more

The best Sushi DOwntown!! 11/4/2002

Dragonfish has the best happy hour ever. The atmosphere is totally cool and the staff is very friendly. I would recommend the spicy tuna rolls and the cranberry and orange martini's are the best!! The best spicy tuna rolls anywhere. Happy hour is very tasteful and affordable. I come back everyweek. Pros: good affordable sushi Cons: more roll selection more

BAR hopping 10/2/2002

My husband and I waited all day for happy hour. We order several sushi rolls in various forms. We even ordered their dragon roll. Everything was great. The sushi is sweetened lightly as it should be. I had iced Silver Saki and would recommend it to everyone. Pros: Cool Artwork, Good Food, Good Service Cons: Expensive Dinners more

wonderfull sushi! 9/24/2002

very good place to splurge for lunch...fast service, though a little pricey. Pros: location, food Cons: $$$$$ more

Dragonfish is great! 8/30/2002

The food is yummy and so are the drinks. Happy hour at D-Fish is amazing, with very inexpensive drink and sushi specials. Only a couple bucks for the California roll (I know, not *real* sushi) and spicy scallop roll are a bargain. I am blanking on the names of the drink specials they usually have for happy hour, but I have had them all and they are all great. Be careful with them though, they will creep up on you if you aren't careful. The wait staff has always been very pleasant in this clean and fun atmosphere. A really great place to go for the inexperience sushi consumer. Pros: Clean, Quality Staff, Convenient Cons: Beginner Sushi more

Great food, Friendly Service 8/24/2002

My husband and I had dinner at the Dragonfish for the first time -- what a wonderful experience! Our waiter was friendly, knowledgable and fun -- and he made some great suggestions on what we needed to try. The Coconut Sole was incredible, and he told us we HAD to save room for dessert. That was an understatement! The coffee flavored creme brulee was fabulous. We will definitely be back! Pros: Good Value, Friendly Service, Great People Watching more
