I would love to know what happened to Doc Scadron. What a piece of work this guy is (was?). Fell for a gorgeous black Mark II with louvered hood. Was told it had been SOLD to a collector in Columbia - Yes, Columbia, and all that that implies. After several phone calls, he told me the car could be mine for a price. I told him I needed to come down to Scottsdale and do an inspection, but that I would put a $5K refundable deposit to hold the car until I could fly down. He told me that $2K was more than enough to hold it and that he wouldn't deposit it, but just leave the check on his desk until I made a decision. After reading a long list of unsatisfied customer reviews, I asked to be refunded. All of a sudden he was nowhere to be found and the check had been deposited.
I filed a small claim against him, but needed to have him served. I found a group of lawyers online and hired one to perform the service. Little did I know how far he would take this. Rather than serve him at his place of business, he thought it safer to follow him home. Upon exiting the car and approaching Doc, who was still sitting in his cloud white XK120, Doc took off and the server was in hot pursuit. As he later described to me over the phone, he found himself doing 80MPH on Scottsdale surface roads for what was to be a $45 service fee and decided to let him get away. He simply returned to Doc's house and waited until 2:00 in the morning to see Doc pull up once more. This time he got served.
I don't remember the lawyer's name, but told him I was impressed with his dedication and sent him a bonus. Doc actually paid the $2K back in full. I imagine he thought I would stop at nothing to get reimbursed. I was one of the lucky ones.
Anyone know where Doc is now? Maybe Bernie Madoff's bunkmate?
