Several months ago I discovered water had gotten into my car. I called around to a number of places, but after talking to Mark I felt the most comfortable hiring him to do the restoration/water damage repair (even though he was 2-3x more expensive than anyone else). He did the work, and I was pleased, despite the price being about $100 more than what he had originally quoted me. However, when you're talking about the difference between $950 and $1050, it's not a huge deal. \r \r But then I noticed water in my car again. There wasn't a ton like before, but my car was certainly damp and windows were fogging. I called Mark, and he identified what he thought the problem would be and said that the part was about $80 and that he wouldn't charge me for labor (as this was obviously something they had missed before). Alright, fine. I ended up having to have surgery that took me out for a month or two, and when I recovered I gave him another call. This time he said the part was $80 or so and that he would charge me for about 20 minutes of labor... still fine. He asked me if I needed a 'rental' and I just assumed that this was something complementary so I said yes. My husband dropped off the car and picked up the ‘rental’, which is like a 1989 Honda Accord that shakes when you come to stops, and feels barely safe to drive. Mark called me later that afternoon to tell me that the part had gone up 20% from $80 to $130. Now I realize the not everyone is great at math, but c’mon... that's more like a 60% increase!!!! Anyway, still fine, as I understand that prices of parts fluctuate and that is beyond Marks control. Again, he said that it would take his guys about 20 minutes to replace the part. So I said, 'how much is this going to cost? Less than $200?' And he replied ""Oh yes, much less than $200."" So I add up in my head and figured that this will be about a $160 job. Now this is twice as much as he originally quoted me, but again, I'm understanding that the cost of the part went up. \r \r Well.... imagine my surprise when I pick up my car (3 days later btw- it was supposed to take 1 day) and my bill is over $260. Now again... originally quoted $80... then 'much-less-than-$200', then billed $262. I looked over the bill, there’s a charge for a seat cover- whatever that is-- that I was never told I'd be charged $18.30 for, there's a charge for a full hour of labor-- 3x more labor than I was quoted, the price of the part, and a rental car charge!!!!! Who in their right mind would rent a 1989 Honda Accord for $15 a day!? I can rent a brand new car from Enterprise for that! I was seriously erked that I was never told there would be a charge for this. The woman who was checking me out called Mark and let me talk to him, where I explained all the issues that I had with this transaction. He asked me to give the phone back to the lady and I could hear him telling her that he specifically told me the rental car would be $15 a day. I HATE LIARS! He never once mentioned, in the 3 phone conversations that we had and the one face-to face conversation he had with my husband, that there would be charge!!! They ended up taking off the rental car charge and charging me $59 for labor vs the $79 that was on the bill previously, but I still left feeling taken advantage of and deceived. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... I'm never, ever, ever going back again! more

Not a satisfied Customer. I took my truck to be detailed by Mark due to a musty/mildew smell, as it had been sitting unused for two years. It wasn’t dirty, it was just smelly. I told Mark what I needed and asked for a price. He told me that when detailing for mold/mildew they take the carpets out and have to remove the padding to wash the carpets. He said that’s where most of the dirt and smell is hidden. When I arrived at his shop, he explained the process again and how they remove the carpet. He then said sometimes the padding is stained and they have to replace it. I told him I didn't want to spend over the original quoted amount to do the complete detail. If the padding was bad, we’d figure something else out. When I arrive back to pick up my truck Mark says that when they bring the truck around he needs to install a front seat bolt that they found while moving the rest of the cars in their bay at the end of the day. “Don’t worry, there are like 17, so no big deal” Mark says, he also proceeds to tell me they didn’t actually remove any of the carpets because they would have ran out of time (they had my truck 5 days) and would have gone over the original quote, even though he told me removing the carpets was included in the detail quote I asked for to remove the mold/mildew smell. THEN after driving away I find that they didn’t even clean around the rubber of the gear shift or out of the pocket in the door handle. To make matters worse, I go to pick up my children and the rear SEATBELT BOLTS were never reinstalled. The seat belts could NOT be used AT ALL. It was past closing time on Friday and I had to wait until Monday when the shop opened to get this issue fixed. When I arrived back at the detail shop (which is over an hour away from my home) and waited for them to install the seatbelt bolts, I explained to Mark that I was frustrated with my level of service and didn’t feel I got what I paid for. He was very unsympathetic (even was rude enough to take a phone call on his cell during the conversation) and didn’t even offer to finish wiping out the gear shift or the door, or find a way to make things right. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone, even though they give “PERKS” for leaving good comments and recommendations. Not only that, but I will continue to voice my opinion of the poor level of service on every Yellowpages, Yelp , Angies List and any other site I can find to help warn any other consumers out there. more

Mark’s work is just phenomenal! I tried many other detailers in the past, but they had no clue how to clean a carpet properly, or how to get mold out of a seatbelt. Mark’s carpet cleaning process assures that all of the detergent is removed so that it doesn’t cause a sticky mess later. And Mark’s meticulous process for cleaning seatbelts gets rid of black mold that can form in Oregon’s climate. Details By Mark is a local treasure! more

My car looks like new!! What a great and thorough job you did! And, when I called to say I spilled coffee all over the trunk carpet two days after you cleaned it, you said bring it back and you will wash the carpet again. What great customer service!! \r I was so pleased I recommended you to a friend who called and made an appointment for her car!\r Thank you, Mark!! more

Bloodbath restored to health: We had 4/28/2012

Bloodbath restored to health: We had yet another domestic violence incident. This time he broke through the window in the house and severed an arterial vein and then took my car to flee. He bled profusely in my car and I mean literally pools of blood on the seats, the floors, the gear shifter, emergency brake; the car looked like a murder scene (that is what the police officers said and donâ??t worry, he survived his surgery and is jail). Once the initial drama ended, it was time for me to evaluate the horror left in the car. I was disheartened to say the least. After spending an hour and a half cleaning up the blood, I had barely made a dent in the carnage. I didnâ??t know what to do because even if I spent 2 more hours, there were crevices the coagulated blood had seeped to and there was no way I knew to get it out and in a few days it would start to smell like something had died in it. Then I was introduced to Mark of â??Details By Mark.â?? What a godsend! I briefly explained what happened and Mark assured me he would take care of my car, which looked like a bloodbath. And take care of it he did. It took hours and hours to get it clean, I am told. They removed all of the carpet and parts and pieces I would have no idea how to get to. When I got the car back, she looked like a brand new car. It was amazing. I would never have believed that â??Bloody Mary,â?? as we renamed her could ever again look even OK. She looks so much better than just OK. She has never looked and smelled so good except for when she wheeled off the new car lot. I am enormously grateful to Mark for being so detailed and meticulous in the work that he does. It is because of Mark that I am able to hold my head up high in my car. She looks and smells amazing. Thank Details By Mark!!! more

My 2003 Honda Accord now glistens like new; a high polish buffing even has rain beading like diamonds. Mark went the extra mile, in removing a bad stain on the rear seat, and even dyed the leather to match. Nothing was overlooked, as the leather interior everywhere now feels clean and soft to the touch. Thank-you, Mark. I will be back! more

Bad Business 9/12/2011

I was quoted $375 for an exterior detail over the phone(A lot of money but it is a very rare Porsche RS America). When I arrived, Mark said it looked better than he expected but recommended removing a clear bra (applied to prevent rock chips). Excuse after excuse followed and after two weeks I called to see what time it would be ready. He said that he had bad news, the Porsche was at a body shop being painted because he ran into a table. Mark said it wasn't too bad but had taken no photos, so I have no clue. When I got the bill, it had grown from $375 to $1,069. I know a good detail when I see one and I wasn't impressed with the quality. I could find spots all over it that could be picked off with a fingernail and washing scratches still showed. He has too many cars in too little a space and when a car gets damaged he should call to see where YOU want the car repaired not him. I feel like I paid for the repair and got completely ripped off. more

Amazing results! 7/30/2011

I had the good fortune of having my Toyota Solara detailed with Mark and his team! My car looks better than the day I purchased it nearly four years ago! It looks so amazing and not a speck of dust, dirt, or dog hair. Thank you and your team for your excellent work! It is worth every cent!\r Lisa more

2004 Prius restored 7/19/2011

2004 Prius restoration of exterior, after one too many drunks side-swiped it, transformed the sad auto from an embarrassment to an artistic statement. Looks great! Car was finished and ready for pick-up exactly when promised. Price was reasonable. We highly recommend the Mark's service. more

Look No Further--Phenomenally Professional 1/16/2011

Details! The devil was in my details, but you've heard that one before. This business is by far the best place I have ever worked with. The level of professionalism that Mark and his crew possess is phenomenal. From the first time I spoke with Mark over the phone, he detailed how his shop works, and gave me specific ideas of how to handle my water damage problem. If you are looking for a detail shop with a good reputation, look no further. Details by Mark is the best in the business. And they even cleaned my seat belts!! Laurel more

Mark will take great care of you and your car; you get what you pay for. If there is a problem, he will fix it and He gives you personal service. I have a 2007 Black GT Mustang and he took extra care to make sure that the finish was done right. I have had work done in town by competitors before using Mark and can say you are wasting your money if you go anywhere else. more

Spilled milk 11/4/2010

I spilled milk in my Toyota Prius and the smell horrendous! Not to mention the wet dog smell my lab has been working on for the past two years. Mark was amazing. He knew what it would take to get the smell out, gave me a loaner car, and wouldn't return the car until it met his criteria. His standards are much higher than mine. If you are researching detail shops, stop, you have found your place. more

Mark detailed my pickup a few months ago prior to me listing it for sale. He was easy to work with and explained exactly what was going to be done. The vehicle came out looking great and the interior looked new. Incredible for a 15 year old pickup. I had no problems selling the vehicle, and I'll return again. more

Great job, but get a written estimate. 8/11/2010

After a thorough inspection with Mark, he estimated $550 +/- to do an exterior-only job on our Vanagon, which we thought was steep, but based on reviews and a feel for the operation we went ahead. I checked in with Mark while the work was underway and he never mentioned the price was going up, so was shocked when the bill came to $940. The scope of work was the same as originally described, but apparently it took longer than he expected. After I paid he offered me a free detail job if I would write positive on-line reviews, which I can't honestly do. The shop did a fantastic job on our van, but I wouldn't go back for a detail. more

Mark detailed my car about 6 months ago and he did an outstanding job. I have an English Bulldog who sheds heavily and the hair gets into the fabric and is nearly impossible to get out. Mark's team not only removed 99% of it but all of the dog odor was gone. It looked like a brand new car and I got compliments from friends and family for days. Mark and his team are highly recommended and I would never go to anyone else. Pros: convenient location, quality job Cons: none, honestly! more

It felt like a new car again 5/25/2010

Mark saved our Volkswagen in a virtually painless way for us. Our car smelled terrible and we could not figure out the cause. Mark knew instantly that it had water damage and he proceeded to figure out why. In no time he informed us that it had been infested by mice. We were shocked and knew it was going to be a big project. Mark knew exactly how to handle the situation and even got it covered by our insurance. The car has new carpeting and smells wonderful. This was a fabulous detailing job! I highly recommend this company. Pros: efficent, friendly and knowledgable more

Buy a New Car? No way. Go to Mark! 3/30/2009

Mark is one of those rare businessmen who truly care about their customer and the quality and value of their product. I first went to Mark a few months ago after buying a Lexus online and having it shipped from Chicago. It arrived in much worse condition, inside and out, than the seller had represented. I went to Mark and he spent 20-30 minutes with me showing me that the car had sustained numerous exterior ""events"" and had been repaired shoddily. He helped me find a great auto-body repair shop and I had extensive repair work done (great recommendation). Once that was done, we returned to Mark to help protect our investment on the outside, and to turn the inside back into brand new condition. What a beautiful job he and his crew did! It is stunning how brand new the car looks (5 year-old car with lots of hard wear before we bought it ... apparently). Even the engine compartment looks absolutely new ... you know that feeling you have in the showroom when the salesman lifts the hood and you look at a brand new engine? Lastly, I love that Mark has a ""maintenance"" program for keeping your car in tip-top shape. He costs more on the first visit than many others (worth it), but once you factor in the value you get from his maintenance program, it is no comparison. Pros: Quality. Integrity. Cares about Customer. more
