Yummy Food and Unique Space 4/10/2008

All in All I had a good experience. Parking was a little pain, but they have a valet. The food was good and the decor was unique. Hip crowd! Pros: Food, Drinks and the decor Cons: Parking more

This Is Not Beleza! 4/9/2008

First of all, we love Beleza, Cuerno's sister restaurant next door. And we read the three previous reviews, all great. But after trying to dine here, we went back over those reviews, and they are all one timers, which tells us, they are written by employees. Don't believe them. Read the reviews by people, who review on a regular basis. They lost our reservation on a Friday night, we had to wait over two hours. Never again. Rude wait person, implied that if you don't like it, you don't have to come back. And we won't! Pros: It's Next To Beleza! Cons: Rude Staff, Phoney Reviews! more

Hottest new restaurant in Midtown!!! 4/9/2008

Cuerno is the hottest new restaurant in Midtown-period! The valet on Juniper St. was easy to find and simple to get in/out. We had great service by our waiter and the manager was extremely friendly too. I highly recommend the green salad (ensalada verde) and the monkfish with ham, and the almond cake for dessert-yummy! I'm currently pregnant so I cannot comment on the wine selection; however, when we went next door to Beleza, they accomodated me by making some of their fabulous fresh cocktails virgin-style...wonderful drinks!!! Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, Parking Cons: I'm pregnant so I didn't get to taste the wine selections more

Best Spanish Food.... Period! 4/5/2008

Had dinner at Cuerno last night, and loved all of it. Started with a bunch of tapas- excellent spinach salad with orange and pistachios, cheesy ham croquettes, mussels, clams, huge prawns, all served in this addictive garlic broth that is great for soaking up with good bread. A platter of spanish meats and cheeses was great as well, especially the Iberico ham we also ordered that literally melts on your tounge. We had a great server that helped us navigate the menu, and the monkfish entree he suggested was the highlight of my meal, wrapped in serrano ham and served with a creamy eggplant puree. Very good experience so go check it out. Pros: really good food and service, awseome gothic decor Cons: no patio seating more

Great food, cool atmosphere 4/4/2008

I have eaten at Cuerno three times since they opened, and loved it every time. Since a vacation to Spain 3 years ago with my brother, I haven't been able to find anywhere in Atlanta to get real Spanish food like we had in Madrid, but Cuerno nails it. The paellas are just like I had on my vacation, rich seafood flavor with a nice carmelized crust, and great tapas as well. Make sure to try the almond cake for dessert. Service has always been really good each time we ate there. Make sure to check this place out if you are looking to try this kind of really true Spanish food. Pros: Really authentic Spanish food Cons: Where to park is a bit murky, but they do have valet more

This place is GREAT, my new favorite restaurant in Atlanta!! 4/3/2008

In the last 3 weeks, I have dined at Cuerno maybe 7+ times with family and friends, and have always had a fantastic experience every time. I keep coming back to get the chance to try all the different things on the expansive menu, tapas, different paellas and such. Favorites so far: Tapas- the white bean and chorizo/blood sasuage tapa, ham croquettes, fried peppers Paellas- Valenciana, which has every kind of shellfish you could imagine, and the prawn and vermicelli paella is awseome. Also, I had a great grilled veal loin with sweetbreads, and loved the grilled lamb my wife ordered. Suckling pig? Best thing on the menu and to die for. Only complaint is that they took one of my favorites, the onion soup off the menu recently. When the owner stopped by the table to check up on us, I mentioned this, and he told me that he and the chef try to keep the menu very seasonable, and as such they were going to replace the onion soup with a gazpacho which I look forward to trying. I guess I will have to wait until next winter to get my onion soup again. Overall, everything here is really great, even exceptional in alot of ways. Service has been professional, prompt and personable on all my visits. Also, the wine list is all Spanish, and I'm an idiot when it comes to Spanish wines. It does help that they have a great sommelier who has helped me more than once to pick out some great wines to go with our food. So I would really reccomend anyone to try this restaurant, it's my new favorite. Pros: Great food, notable service, good vibes Cons: No more onion soup :( more

good food 3/25/2008

We made reservations for two and were seated promptly. This was on the week-end. We had a couple of small plates plus the paella valenciana. The food was very good to great; paella was huge and very tasty. The place was full of people, full of energy but a bit too loud. Still pretty entertaining and the hosts were trying their best to handle the entire crowd. This is a good restaurant that I recommend. Pros: food Cons: noise level more

worst restaurant experience--EVER! 3/23/2008

This is the first review I had written and am moved to do so b/c of the lousy experience we had. Called 10 days out to make a reservation, when reconfirming the day of we were told that the reservation had been lost but they would work us in if we showed up after 7:30. (I found our later the website says they don't take reservations on the weekend for less than 6). We stood at the very crowded bar (no available seats) for 65+ min. While trying to check on our table a customer interupted me by saying his 9:00 reservation guests were all there and they want to be seated now-8:00 -which they did. When we finally got a table, and a complimentary glass of wine (nice gesture), which I didn't need after 2 other glasses of wine with no food, we waited 10 more minutes had to ask for menus. We generally had very poor service. Most of this was blamed on a new computer system. When the food arrived, it was good (certainly not worth the hassle) but when another round of the exact same appetizers which we had eaten and finished earlier arrived at our table halfway through the main course I felt I was in the twilight zone or a very bad movie. The waiter didn't care, said the computer messed up, and just put them on the table again. We will NEVER go there again, and advise anyone considering going there to choose someplace else among the many wonderful restaurants that Atlanta has to offer. Pros: young hip crowd Cons: dirsurbingly poor management and service more

really bad experience 3/22/2008

""As a starter we have waited 45 minutes for our table even we had a reservation and talked to the manager about ''what's the point of making a reservation' and he said they would take good care of us. The food was not worth the waiting and they brought us the wrong stuff that we did not want. When we told our waiter about it he did not even care. We were waiting to have some kind of complimentary drinks after all but nothing happened. I don't know if their service and food quality get improved in time but it was a waste of money. I do not recommend anybody to go there."" more

We Want To Like It Here, But We Just Can't! 2/27/2008

Being longtime fans of Sotto, Fritti, and the ultra hot Beleza next door, we thought this was a natural from Chef Ricardo Ullio. And Spainsh Cuisine is one of our faves. Basically it starts out with a much confused host, who just can't get it together. And not the most comfortable seating, especially in Midtown. Ambience is appealing, but the poor service and lack of flavor, ruined out twice-out experience here. Small plates tasted strange. And we were excited about the many choices of Paella. How long has this fish been frozen? We just wanted to leave, and we did. And went next door and had a great nightcap at Beleza. What a shame! Pros: Beautiful Decor & Midtown Location! Cons: Food & Service! more

A Huge Disappointment 2/21/2008

I hate to be one of those people who write a bad review on Citysearch. Often times when I read negative reviews on here, I think that the writer must just be one of those people who doesn?t like anything. (Unless there are many, many negative reviews of the place). But I truly had a bad experience and want to give others a heads up. I had high hopes, as I love Spanish food and the other restaurants owned by the same group (Fritti, Sotto Sotto). \r \r I?ll be succinct and not list it all in painful detail. \r Cons:\r The host couldn?t get his story straight on reservations nor on why we could not have a better table when there were many free. The tapas was basically pre-made and just re-heated, so they came out way too fast. Too much lag between those and the entrees. The paella was just weird. The most traditional one on the menu, by description, had no saffron in it and the prawns were rubbery. It also tasted fishy. Not like seafood. Like seafood left in the sun. The two-tops were strange: too tall, like bar tables. That?s cool for a bar, or pub. But no fun for a nice dinner out. Finally, the rice in the arroz con leche dessert was undercooked, so it was hard. \r \r Pros:\r The wine list was good. The tapas (despite their pre-packaged origins) were authentic and tasty. The chicken in the paella was good, tender. Our waitress very personable and did a good job. Cool decor (in spite of having to perch like a bird during the whole meal, on the bar-like chairs). \r \r There are many great places in Atlanta to get Latin tapas. This just isn?t one of them. I expected much more from the U Restaurants Group. \r Pros: cool decor, intown location Cons: bad food, no parking, no valet more

  • In Short
With a critically acclaimed Spanish predecessor (Cuerno) that was a little too advanced for Atlantan’s palettes, chef-owner Riccardo Ullio dialed it back on the conception with Lupe, but lost nothing in the execution. This gourmand-driven Mexican spot delivers a menu that is one part sophistication and one part comfort. To appease the authentic-craving foodies, tacos are traditional, boasting a succulent and well-marbled braised goat and soft beef tongue among the usual steak and fish offerings. Entrees offer enchiladas with rice and beans to the suburban Mexican fan, but raise eyebrows with grilled chicken slathered in a traditional dark mole and served with rice and corn tortillas. Staples like guacamole and margaritas are some of the city’s best, and the setting is as cool as it is comfortable. Ullio might have missed the mark with Cuerno, but Lupe fits like a glove.
