Best

One of the only gems in downtown LA, I've been going to Ciao for years. Great authentic Italian food, I go here when I need to get pasta fix. I love my old faves, the seafood past...

Worst

This restaurant is pretty, but the service was bad and the food was just so-so, did not seem authentic italian to me. They had the door open when it was 50 degrees out, and would ...

best ravioli of my life 9/17/2006

I recently dined here on a Saturday evening and was blown away by the exquisite interior. I was even more blown away by tasting their lobster ravioli....which was reccomended by our waitress. It is hands down the tastiest lobster rav I have ever had and even now find my self salivating for it. The service was fabulous, both at the bar and tableside, (they didnt skip a beat) and the lemondrop martini I sipped at the bar before my meal was done to perfection. Pros: best ravioli on earth Cons: dodgy neighborhood at night. USE VALET HERE. more

Wretched 3/28/2006

I understand that in 2-star restaurants like this one there are tables that a waiter has to ""sacrifice"" when it's busy, but this was rediculous. Service was basically non existant. As for the food, the beef carpaccio was sliced so thin that I had to scrape it onto my fork with my knife - it basically disintegrated into multiple little beef fragments. Just horrible. I had a glass of the house Pinot Noir for $8. I wouldn't pay that for a bottle of this given the chance again. I wasn't even offered the chance to order something different. We had exactly one glass of water each - we were offered no more. I will never go back and would certainly not recommend it anyone. Pros: Lovely space Cons: Food, Service more

Family Night out. 11/19/2005

We recently had dinner at this gorgeous restaurant. To begin with, the valet parking was both reasonable and great. The service staff was attentive without hovering. The pasta was delicious, the chicken dishes and the seafood dishes were well done and properly spiced. The wine we had was both delicious and reasonably priced. Once dinner was over, the dessert tray was brought over and we had a terrible time making up our minds faced with so many choices. The espresso and dessert were a great end to a wonderful dinner. Pros: Service, Food, Parking Cons: Small, Loud more

Poor cooking, poor service 10/5/2005

Ciao Trattoria is located in a beautiful building and the atmosphere is pleasant enough. Service began with promising attentiveness, and we were served some delicious bread. After we ordered, though, it all went downhill. I had a rigatoni dish with sauteed vegetables, olive oil and garlic. Its predominant flavor was salt - lots of it. The pasta was way beyond al dente: it was slightly hard and chewy. My wife's penne was also undercooked. Service to this point was adequate, though they had to be prompted to refill our sodas. After dinner, our waiter came by with a dessert tray. Indecisive, we asked him to come back in a couple minutes. But, 45 minutes later, he had never come back. The busboy did, however, take away our soda glasses without offering a refill. We finally asked for our check. Never again. Pros: valet parking Cons: lousy food, poor service more

""Ok"" Experience 9/18/2004

I ate at Ciao last week when I was in town for business. I found the food to be ""ok"", although I have much better Italian. The service was what annoyed me the most. I never received a consistant waiter, which caused some issues. Seemed that they forgot to give me bread, my drink was empty more than it was full. The waiter did not stop by my table after the runner gave me my food, it was almost 15 minutes later when I had to wave somebody over to get service. The atmosphere was nice, just need to improve the service. Pros: Atmosphere, Downtown Location more

Valentines Dinner 2/15/2004

We dined in a room next to the main dining area that was a lot quieter and had tons more eye appeal. We felt like we were eating in a museum; it was the entry way/lobby to the building with elevators (the 2 hours we were there only 2 people came out of the elevators). To start we had the Mozzarella Marinara, it was prepared perfectly and the extra sauce was great for the bread :) For dinner I had the Pollo Toscana and my date the Pollo Padovana, both dishes were excellent. For desert it was a delicious Tiramisu. The servers were very attentive without the feeling of being hovered. A great resturant to visit before or after watching a show in downtown LA. Pros: Excellent Service, Ambiance more

Mediocre at bestg 2/3/2004

We ate at Ciao last night and I was not impressed. The menu selection is well varied as is the extensive wine list. The mozzarella appetizer was boring although the salad was good. The tortelloni was bland and uninspired. Service was mediocre at best. The wine was good but overpriced. Valet parking only for $4.50. Pros: Lovely ambience, Wine selection Cons: , Expensive wines more
