Catalina Room 5/22/2010

LR know as the manager and Eduardo are the worst excuse for pusedo-bougies! Their concept is huge but their managment and customer service does not deliver. Rachel is rude, has a bad attitude, and appears to comply with the horrible management phliosophy of LR and Company Liar to keep her job and cash tips. On several occassions, the food was nota delivered to my family as ordered. There was no compensation or correction. Whether we are satisfied or not, we can count on our bill being over $80.00 for 2 people. We scheduled a baby shower at the facility only to be lied to and again they did not deliver. The food use to be top of the line, now, it is the bottom of the barrel. We use to frequent the joint to hear Richard Martinez, and Liz Mikel...Oooppps, LR got into an altercation with them in front of dinning guest. Management and the bartenders are self-centered and a huge turn off! I wish someone would come and Run the resuturant right, like LUCKY!!!! Oh, sorry LR he left!!!! EVERYONE please visit BOLSA for a great experience, quality service, and great food. Ultimately, a owner/manager that is not drinking up the bar supplies and placing their tab back on the consumer! Pros: patio/entertainment/hours of operation Cons: Management/Service/Food Qualitiy Assurance more

Exceeded my expectations 6/24/2009

Just enjoyed a great lunch here with a colleague. The ambiance is very pleasant, and we received fantastic service--very attentive, but not overbearing. While we waited for our food, they brought us an appetizer ""on the house."" Our entrees were both tasty, appropriately portioned, and we were in and out in about an hour. I highly recommend this place and plan on returning to try their Sunday brunch. Pros: Excellent food, excellent service more

Great food Great Service-Love it 4/5/2009

We have all of our special occasions at Catalina. The service is great. We have tried many entrees on the menu and the food is always excellent. The owners do a great job of checking on the guests to ensure they are having a great time and great food. Due to the great atmosphere we have often stopped in just to have a drink and appetizers. Pros: Everything on the menu is excellent Cons: Not enough parking more

Appearances are deceiving 2/25/2009

They reuse the sour cream, cheese and bacon for the baked potato. To make this even more plain. You will be eating combined sour cream, cheese and bacon. The servers take the stuff previously given to other diners and serve it to you. In effect, everyone is dipping from the same bowls. This, in my opinion, is nasty and is a guaranteed health hazard. While we were eating, we noticed that the owner allowed an obviously important guest to bring their dog into the restaurant. Isn't this a health code violation??? I think a full moon was out. We figured that if they don't care enough to give you fresh baked potato sides, then what am I really eating. It is easy to let the ambiance fool you. Pros: Looks good Cons: Health code violations more

Good Food & Loud Music 11/7/2008

Food and atmosphere are fashioned after Houston's. Incredible onion rings to start are a must. Filet Mignon and Lamb chops are excellent. Service was mixed on our two visits, first time server was on the ball & very professional, second time way to meek and didn't seem to know her menu very well. Pros: Food. Ambience Cons: Music, Valet parking more

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, LOVE L.R. 9/26/2007

This is a great way to end an evening! Food, atmosphere is outstanding. The staff is very welcoming and warm; food is outstanding onion rings are WONDERFUL! We celebrated my father in laws birthday and the staff never left the table, this is defiantly a must see and do place!! Everyone I have referred has loved it Pros: Food, Company Cons: If you don't go!! more

One of my favorites in Dallas - Great Food and Service 7/21/2007

I've been to the Catalina Room several times and food and service is great. I have only tried their steak or Lamb, but my friends have really raved about the Catfish. I really enjoy the comfortable and warm atmosphere that it has at night. The live Jazz is a nice touch. Pros: Warm atmosphere at night, friendly owner, GREAT Bar, Open Kitchen Cons: Valet Parking, Pricey Brunch more

Worst restaurant owner.. don't make him mad about the lack of food quality or you'll be fighting! 12/5/2006

First time there. Nice music (Sinatra), a lot spent on built-out, cozy, warm, but very dark with tv's in every booth. Pros: The drinks!! Cons: The owner more

Eat before you go and have low expectations of service and you'll have an enjoyable evening. 12/2/2006

Six of us went to dinner tonight (Satuday) as I had heard that Rusty Johnson was playing sax. I stopped in the restaurant early in the morning to see if we could get a reservation and was promptly met by a nice gentleman in a tuxedo who took my reservation down. I asked if we could have a table near the piano as we were primarily coming to hear the duo that was scheduled to play that evening and he assured me that would be fine. Pros: ambience, chef, live music Cons: service, arrogant owners, parking (NONE) more

Nice Atmosphere - Great Food 7/2/2006

Although parking is scarce the entire staff is friendly and conciencious. Food is very tasty -the Salmon in particular is terrific. Although the booth televisions are a bit 'anti-romantic' you can request a non-wired booth. Overall, very classy, resaonably priced and comfortable. Will be back! more

very good but not great 6/25/2006

the catalina room seems to employ a lot of Houston's signature features, right down to the pepper grinder and 'pac-man' sugar caddy on the table. the wedge salad and prime rib were both tasty, although i could have done without the giant dollop of butter on top of the mashed potatoes (they were rich enough without it). My only real complaint would be that they do not 'course' out the entrees - our main dishes were brought out before we could even finish a split salad (Houston's does this also but usuallty they are so busy it is a non-issue). Pros: reasonable prices, good location Cons: don't course out entrees more

Who's the chef 5/30/2006

How many chef's has this place been thru??? 12, 13 maybe more. No consistancy in food, service or management. Everything is in flux, is this a remake of Enigma? No two plates the same, no server the same, no manager the same. Cons: inconsistancy, food quality, service more

User review by chefcga 5/3/2006

I went to the Catlina Room for a friends birthday for brunch, inspite of the below mentioned reviews that I had read before hand. I must admit much to my suprise I did not experience what some other patron had experienced. We were greeted well and was welcomed with a very open and warm reception. The food was great, I especially liked the caviar, salmon and large tiger shrimp, all before the main entree. Our waiter, Allan, was the best.....even for a early Sunday Morning. My girlfriend... A Pastry Chef and myself, an Executive Chef felt right at home in an enviornment that we are so accustomed to giving to our own clients. We both thought we'd hit the jack pot. We will be back and will tell and bring more of our friends who appreciate dining as we do. Truly Bon Appetit Chef more

Elegant but casual 4/28/2006

Great happy hour! Great bar staff. Free buffet of large shrimp and buffalo wings prepared by a french chef. Super place for entertaining anyone. more

Bad customer service! 2/22/2006

Being accustomed to good service for a memorable dining experience, I expected too much from this restaurant by the way a problem with our drinks was handled. During the course of our meal when ordering a second round of drinks, we noticed two of our drinks (which were half full by the way) were chipped around the top edge of the glass. We pointed this out to the most appropiate person ""the general manager"" who after inspecting the glasses told us in his own words ""that the condition of the glasses was unacceptable"" and took the drinks way. To my disbelief, nothing was done to correct the problem after that, no real pology and no replacement of our drinks was provided. After that night,we left very dissapointed and with the intention to let all of our friends know about the incident and never to choose this place. Cons: Bad manager, Average Food more

Catalina Room not recommended 2/15/2006

The atmosphere is the only positive characteristic going for this new spot on Lemmon Ave. My girlfriend and I went last week and discovered it was not worth the trip. The food was below average. We each had a steak (ribeye and tenderloin) and it tasted like low grade meat. Side items were cold. Service was non-existing. Appetizers, salad and meal were all delivered around the same time. Waitress never returned to our table after taken our order except to drop off the check. Did not offer coffee/dessert. Place was very loud but sleek looking. We will not be going back here. Pros: Inexpensive, Atmosphere Cons: Servce, food quality, noise level more

Great Food - Poor Service 2/14/2006

A very good looking place, but the service was terrible. We had a very cute waitress that didn't have a clue. Our salads and entree were served at the same time after a considerable wait. The soup was cold which is a good indication that the orders were ready, but she did not bring them out. They had a band, which was very good, but it was impossible to have a conversation. I had been told by another diner and by the waitress that they were known for their chicken fried steak. I should have known better, because a nice looking place can't properly prepare a chicken fried steak. That was confirmed, it had a lot of breading to hide the excessive fat. Plus it hadn't been pounded down to thin and tender piece of lean beef. It may be a fashionable spot to meet, but not to eat. Pros: Bar, Style Cons: Poor Service, Loud Band, Poor Service more

Good, but not quite Houstons 1/18/2006

Being a big fan of Houston's I had to try Catalina. Even though there was a nice crowd on Sat night we were seated promptly in a great atmosphere. The spinach salad was great even without the mushrooms (we were told they were out when we ordered), and the cheeseburger was very good, but not Houston's caliber (thicker bun, thinner meat that was well done instead of medium rare as it was ordered). I was disapointed in the cole slaw (not even similar to Houstons and too sweet). Had to ask for another fork when our entrees arrived and it took a noticably long time to receive the second glass of wine. Overall the experience was good, but I would have enjoyed it more had I not compared it to Houston's - a very tough act to follow. Going back tonight. Pros: atmosphere, bar, nice crowd Cons: parking, food inconsistent, service inconsistent more
