Loved it... 12/20/2005

I went to the Catalina Room with some friends, and none of us had ever been there. We were treated like VIP the entire time. The food was wonderful, wine was yummy, and the cheesecake was good too. We stayed around at the bar for a few drinks afterwards, and even the bartender was very nice. We can't wait to go back. There are many similarities between the Catalina Room and Houston's. more

this is a good place only if you don't mind being shunned constantly if you are not of the norm. the owner was constantly passing by our table, i guess trying to see how much longer we would be with our meal. i got the feeling that he wanted us to 'get it & go' & if it would have been prudent, he would have recommended that to us. if i'm happy to give you my money, why wouldn't you be happy to serve me? Pros: good food, nice look Cons: terrible service, terrible parking more

Houston's+ 11/10/2005

Great place. Truly outstanding food and service. The menu is very similar to Houston's (various ""American"" fare), but the food is actually better at Catalina. Atmosphere is cozy but not too much, sporty but cool, and very jazzy. Live music. A great place to make an evening of it. Odd location, but it almost adds to the exceptional experience - a great companion to Bob's Steak & Chop House, which is almost next door, and some of the other hidden culinary gems in the neighborhood. Only one negative: they charge for valet. (Are the owners new to Dallas?) Hopefully this lapse of judgment can be remedied quickly. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Music Cons: $5 Valet more
