OMG! You have to try this food! 11/30/2008

So, there is this place located in old town scottsdale. It's called Jewel of the Crown... i dont know if you heard of it. I've been eating indian food since i was a little kid and have always loved it. But I am a bit picky when it come to good indian food. This place is AMAZING! I wish i could give it 10 stars. I went with a bunch of my friends and we literaly tried almost the whole menu! The kabobs were juicy and not dry ( something I hate at other indian places) The naan was buttery and hot and they give you a unlimited suppy of Basmati Rice! Absolutly Great service too! The guy's name was pasquali or something and he knew everything about this food. I was kinda put off by some of the reviews I had read on-line about bad service and such, But I am so glad I decided to listen to my gut and eat there! whatever was bad before they have absolutly changed it. I will be back every week for the rest of my life as far as I am concerned! ( I am having lunch on weds. there ;) ) Pros: Food atmosphere and SERVICE! Cons: kinda hard to find... call for great step by step directions (480) 949-8000! more

A don't miss!!!!!!!!!!! 12/26/2007

I've read the other reviews, but while I was there, impeccable and courteous service!!!! I searched for this food om over 4 cities in 3 states just over the past year! Awesome, amazing, tasty! What else do you want to know? Isampled the naan, samosas, and paaner. Next time I will try the kebaabs. They look great too. Give it a try and trust yourself, you won't be dissapointed. I'll be back time and time again! Pros: food, service Cons: could be loud but ok while i was there! more

Atrocious!!!! 4/28/2007

I am half Indian and grew up with Indian food. My friends and I went to the Jewel of the Crown for lunch after hearing good things about it. After about 15 minutes of being seated (with no other customers in the restaurant) we finally had water glasses filled. In another 5 or 10 minutes, the waiter/owner came over. Many people had questions about the lunch menu, and one of my friends actually stopped in the middle of her question after he rudely cut her off. When he left with our order, we all commented on how he treated us as though we were a bother to even be there. When my meal came, it wasn?t what I had expected and when I asked him about it he proceeded to YELL at me and treat me as though I was a child. I have NEVER seen such absolutely rude and insulting behavior! It was atrocious and we all agreed we would never come back, nor recommend it. Apparently the old Jewel of the Crown (when it was located closer to Old Town Scottsdale) was fantastic. It is now appalling. Even if the service had been good, the food was awful. All those that had eaten Indian food before agreed it was bland, dry and lacking any spice whatsoever (even when asking for spicy). Do not waste your time!!! It?s worth the drive to Tempe to the Royal Taj for good food and good service. If you don?t want to go that far, try the Bollywood Brasserie in Scottsdale for good food. Pros: Ambiance is nice Cons: Prepare to be insulted and have awful food more

True Jewel 4/18/2007

I have been to the Jewel several times, and hands down it has the best Indian food in town. My experience with the other Indian restaurants has been that they put too much oil and artificial coloring in their food. You can taste the richness and all the flavors in Jewels food. The restaurant itself is beautiful! Been to several Indian restaurants in London and US, but the atmosphere that Jewel offers is very classy and trendy! A clean place to eat, unlike another Indian restaurant I visited in the valley, where I found a hair in my soup. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciated authentic Indian cooking in an upscale environment. more

Phoenix's best Indian food 1/16/2007

This is our favorite Indian restaurant that we've tried in Phoenix (preferred over both Delhi Palaces and Royal Taj). While I am not versed in the "authentic" ingredients, we love the chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, and the vegetable dahl soup. The staff is very friendly, the dining room is nice, and call ahead take out service is great, too. I recommend anyone who loves Indian food in the Phoenix area give the Jewel of the Crown a try! Pros: great food, friendly staff Cons: service can be slow on busy nights, moderately priced more

Not very good at all 11/7/2006

I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and it was -not by any means- Chicken Tikka Masala. It was just a plain and very, very bland tasting Chicken Curry. It had none of the key defining ingredients of Chicken Tikka Masala such as Fenugreek and had an overabundance of ingredients that are NOT supposed to be in there such as Tumeric. The excessive tumeric (which shouldn't have even been in there) caused a yellow color instead of the trademark deep tomato color. Its like ordering Alfredo and getting Marinara instead. The Naan bread was brittle and limp and lacked fluffiness. It was something you'd expect in a lower end restaraunt that averages $5 a dish. The restaraunt is near IMPOSSIBLE to find and for the average consumer this is a good thing. I wish I had just given up after experiencing great difficulty finding the place and never even gone there. Pros: Nice decor. Cons: Food and location. more
