wow $50 for a couple of burgers and a couple of beers. Cheese not melted on burger (what kind of cook does this?, I mean come on!). Service slow as usual. I've given this place...

Bulldog N.E. is a great bar. 1/12/2009

What a bunch if phoney bologna those other reviews are. I've been a loyal customer of the Bulldog N.E. since they opened. They have really transformed into a great bar. The food is outstanding, the beer selection is practically second to none. I have had service that ranges from informal, no nonsense to super friendly and knowledgeable. I would take the bulldog bashing seriously if there were one single specific detail. but there isn't. Looks to me like sour grapes. So, grapes. Have fun at Whitey's. I'll be over at the bulldog N.E. having the same great food and service I always do. Pros: Great burgers and beer. more

Worst Customer Service 12/24/2008

Great selection of beer and good food however the service is the worst I have ever seen all the way from the serving staff to the Management. They do not care about the treatment of their customers. Pros: Wide Variety of Beer and unique food Cons: Poor customer service more

ROCKSTAR food, NOT SO SUPER service... but I keep going back! 10/16/2008

In my dozens and dozens of times going to the ""dog"", I've had pretty much the same experience each time: Sit down, wait 5+ minutes (5 when the bar is EMPTY, closer to 10 when it's busy), order beer, wait another 5+ minutes, order food and wait god knows how long. Eat awesome food, eventually flag down waitstaff for more beer and so on. HOWEVER, I would like to note that there are one or two servers there who provide EXCEPTIONAL service (and ought to be rewarded for it!). I love the gourmet and quirky twist on classic Americana dining (hamburgers and hot dogs... seriously!) The burgers are awesome, and so is the veg black bean burger (I get mine ""ninja style""!). Pros: Great food, fun location, sidewalk patio is great in the summer. Cons: Not the fastest or most excited servers.... more

Amazing food, awesome service!! 10/9/2008

Holy cow!! When a burger is this good I am a woman of very MANY words. Just went there for the first time and I absolutely loved, loved, loved, the food! I tried a couple of the specials that they had for the night. The purple haze burger was incredible. I loved the super subtle lavender in the cheese, I also tasted some of my friends celeriac soup. I wasn't sure that I would like it but it was creamy and hearty and delicious. Beers on tap are unique and fun if you like trying new beers. Our waitress, (the curly haired girl) who was awesome! Recommended the specials and beers to go with them. (Thank you!) I'm happy the bar goes through the trouble of educating their staff on all of the things they serve. It was so pleasant to go somewhere and have the waitress know not only what was on the menu but, be able to describe it in a way that is user friendly. I will recommend this place to everyone. Pros: The curly haired waitress, the burgers, the beer, the cupcakes!!!!!! Cons: The parking!!!!! more

Ostrich Burger = Delicious! 8/14/2008

I'm new to N.E. and wanted to try a new bar, So I coaxed some friends across the river from uptown to try the Bulldog N.E. with me. We picked a good night. I tried this beer that they had on special, I guess on Wednesdays they usually have a firkin, but last night they had this beer that ran through a cooler type thing from a keg next to it. It was good but not as great as some of the other belgians that they had on tap. I also had an Orstrich patty melt. I was a little hesitant but the waitress convinced me it was great. She was right! It was lean and perfectly cooked with this awesome mustard ale cheese and caramelized onions. It was different but so so good. If i hadn't already eaten my wieght in tater tots I might have gotten two. The service was relaxed and casual but attentive and knowledgable. The atmosphere was totally different than I expected. I thought it would be kind of dark and dingy with low ceilings like the other Bulldog. But it was long with super high ceilings, exposed brick and a giant bar right in the middle. I'm excited to have this kind of bar right in my neighborhood and plan to make it a regular spot! more

Only average, nothing special 8/8/2008

Went for lunch. Chicago Dog below average with weird relish. Fries good. House burger good. We were disappointed. Service was barely average. Table dirty. Flies were landing on our heads, as well as landing on the people at the table next to us. Pros: Good fries Cons: Not very clean, flies inside and very annoying. more

Go for the beer, not for the service. And beware the cold cut plate. 7/9/2008

On a quiet Tuesday night, we found the food adequate, the service incompetent. This seems to be a common experience at Bulldog NE. Pros: Beer Cons: Service, freshness of the food more

Our favorite place for burgers, nachos, shuffleboard, and beers! 7/4/2008

What do you know? Another glowing review for Bulldog NE! We found out about this little gem about 1.5 years ago while talking to the Bells beerrRep at the Twin Cities Food & Wine Show. My beautiful wife loves Bells Two Hearted and we were always looking for other places that served the beer. (Since that time, you would be hard-pressed to find a good bar that doesn't serve at least 2 Bell's products.) Anyway, this place is a perfect spot for drinks, fantastic burgers (I think they have 10+ variations - including the ""Junk"" burger), shuffleboard, or sitting inside and listening to great music on their jukebox. Don't be afraid to try the ""Chicken & Waffles"" if you want to - people I have been with loved it! Consistently great service, excellent food, and great beer selection. If you like dark beers, please try the Young's Double Chocolate Stout . . . yummy. Reading the previous Canadian review - make sure you bring valid US ID. Ha! Pros: Food, Service, Shuffleboard, Beer Selection - everything! Cons: (None) more

Good times to be had by all 5/1/2008

Last summer I came here to work and hung out with some cousins at this restaurant. Though it has been some time, I must say that I was blown away by the place. The fact that I remember its name speaks volumes. For starters, their beer selection is intimidating but their servers are more than happy to help guide you. They take multi taps to a whole new level, containing at least 20 and possessing 30 additional ones. I was delighted to hear that they carry Chimay, my favorite beer. Pros: Beer selection, quality of foods Cons: Not a big fan of the atmosphere, parking hard to find more

Be careful if you're not from Minnesota... 2/11/2008

Having found this bar here on citysearch, my girlfriend and I thought it sounded like a good place to go for a couple beers and a bite to eat while we were in the twin cities on a little vacation. Unfortunately we didn't get to find out, since they refused to serve us since we ""only"" had government issued Canadian drivers licenses. Evidently they don't accept ""out of country identification"" except for passports. So, despite the fact that our ID is good enough to get through the US border, evidently the security standards for this bar are a good deal more strict. I mean who's heard of Canada anyways, they're probably fake, right? By the way we're both 26. I've honestly never seen anything so preposterous in my life, but, as I was told ""it's our bar and we can make whatever rules we want."" more

Incredible food! 12/30/2007

I have ate here a few times. Each time the food was fantastic! Most recently I ordered the Rooster burger, and I have to say it was one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. I ordered it cooked medium and it was cooked to perfection. I also ordered it with the truffle fries. I think I could have ate those as a meal in itself. The service was great, and it only took about 15 minutes for my food. It looked packed inside, so I was expecting to have a wait. Pros: Great food, cute servers and strong drinks. Cons: Parking more

Fantasic food! Beautiful space! 12/11/2007

The Bulldog in Northeast has become my new favorite hangout in the neighborhood. The food is much tastier and more interesting than your usual bar fair. I'm addicted to the truffle tater tots. They also have an overwhelming beer selection, but don't worry, the staff is always ready and willing to give recomendations. Between the beer, the shuffelboard table and the fun group of people they have working there I always have a great time when I end up at this bar. Weekends at the Bulldog are always busy so you might want to call ahead if you're heading down with a group, but it's worth the wait. Pros: Beer selection, great food, friendly service. Cons: parking!!! more

Horrible service, uncomfortable environment & bad food 12/5/2007

My girlfriend and I went here on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch and had the worst dining experience I have ever had. I would give the place ZERO STARS if I could. When we got there we waited 30 minutes when we were told there was a 5 minute wait. Bad Start. Then once we were seated at a table that was placed directly behind the hostess stand without hardly room enough to pull out my chair we did not see a server for at least 20 minutes, we had to go to the bar and get our own drinks. Getting worse. Once our server finally made it to our table he took our orders for the appetizer and our dinners without apologizing for the wait, or telling us the specials. Then as we waited for our appetizers I noticed that tables that had been seated after us were eating their meals already. Now this is really bad. So I was finally able to flag down our server to see what the hold up was. We had only ordered wings, a burger and a salad. So he went into the kitchen and came back out and told us that our food would be out in a couple of minutes. Over 45 minutes after we had ordered (and 15 minutes after we were told a couple of minutes) our food arrived. Our appetizer arrived with the meal, which does me no good at this point in time. The salad that my girlfriend ordered came with the wrong kind of dressing, and my burger was not cooked (and I don't mean just prepared rare) and it was cold. I mean call me crazy, but in 45 minutes you could at least warm up a burger over a candle if you had to. There are no excuses this. In conclusion, this was by far the worst dining experience of my life and would recommend that nobody waste their time or money by going to this establishment. HORRIBLE RESTARAUNT!!! Cons: bad food, bad service, loud, hard to park, overpriced beer, etc... more

If you like beer go here!!! 11/14/2007

I have to say it again, if you like beer go here. And no, don't order a macrobrew!!!! Bud and miller (yes they have those if you must) fans think outside the box and order some of the great Belgian beer, or how bout an Urthel!!! My favorite is the Youngs double chocolate. Enjoy!!!! more

Service problems followed up by management's commitment to customer service 11/5/2007

After visiting the Bulldog friday night and having somewhat of a disconcerting experience around service, I was very pleased to have management follow up on the problems that my group experienced while at their establishment. A transparency exists where the success and shine of the restaurant are highlighted in how the owner, Amy, executes her vision in the look, the class and the follow through when things go wrong. more

Good food, terrible service 11/2/2007

I went there last Fri, and it was busy, but not insane, and it was WAY past dinner time, and there wasn't a visible ""please wait to be seated"" or hostess thing going on, so we went to the back bar and got a table, ordered drinks from the waitress....and then a different waitress (or something) came over and said she was planning to seat someone else there and made us get up and move! After we had ordered from a different waitress! We got up from the table and walked out by the front bar, and were told we couldn't stand there either. Clearly, we just left altogether since we were such an inconvenience for the staff of the Bulldog NE. The funny thing? The Bulldog actually sponsors a co-ed sports team that my friends and I play on, and we are extremely loyal customers. I don't think we should have received special treatment, but the fact remains, they made it impossible for us to spend our money there. I've tried quite a few things on the menu- and all have been good, but The Bulldog NE is really just a bar that is a dime a dozen in Minneapolis, and I'd recommend going elsewhere for the same quality food- and much better service. Pros: Good food and atmosphere Cons: Parking, service more
