We reserved a room for 50 kids for a homecoming dinner from 5:30 - 7:30. The manager proceeded to place additional diners in our reserved area and then when they complained that our kids were too loud, they told them to get up and leave (after they had taken our money). These were a very responsible group of kids. The partner at the restaurant treated them and the chaperoning parents very poorly. I do not advise large groups to book there in the future. more

Worst dining service experience ever. 6/28/2008

The food and atmosphere here is great! I had never had a problem with the service till last night. They sat my boyfriend and I down and it took about 4-5 minutes for out waitress to greet us. She took our drink order, delivered the beverages and bread. After I ordered my entree I asked if I could add a side salad and she said yes. We finished off the bread and my boyfriend's iced tea was about 3/4's gone and our waitress didn't acknowledge when she passed. She passed by us twice and asked everyone else if they were ok but not us. She finally came by after we were sitting there wondering if she was ever going to come by and filled his tea and asked us if we would like more bread-we said yes. Shortly after that our entree's came out and we ate. Half way through eating, I realized I never got my salad. I asked her for my salad and she said "Oh...did you still want it?". I was like uhh yes , im still paying for it! For the rest of dinner she never came by our table- and we never got bread. I only ate half of my food and my boyfriend had food left as well. We sat there for ten-15 minutes after we finished eating, waiting for her to come by our table so we could get 2 to-go boxes and order dessert. She asked us if we would like to-go boxes and we said yes and order our dessert. She took our plates away. We ate our dessert and paid the ticket. When she dropped off our change she said ok thanks for coming (she never brought out of to go boxes with our food in it), I ask her if we could have our food with the togo boxes and she said oh..ok...left and brought us our bag. Well this morning I decided I was going to eat some left overs and when I opened the boxes I discovered that she gave us someone else's food. Pros: atmosphere Cons: service more

Don't Order Take Out! 9/26/2007

Twice now, I have placed large lunch orders for my entire office. Both times, Buca completely lost the order...couldn't even find the paper that the order was taken on! OK, I understand that mistakes happen, but really, twice? And, they weren't even apologetic about it. The food used to be great but now it is mediocre at best. Too bad... more

Fun Place, Great Food 7/10/2007

Buca is like no place I have ever dined before (and it's not just because of the HUGE portions). You start out on a tour through the restaurant that begins in the kitchen! While it's a little unorthodox I find comfort in the fact that if they allow people to walk through it, the kitchen must be clean. There's a table directly in the kitchen that can be reserved so you can watch all the action. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The food is delicious and there is plenty of it to go around so bring a friend or two or twenty. I highly recommend the chicken cannelloni, the tortelloni, and the chicken saltimbocca. I will definitely be going back to this place again and again. more

The food at Buca is amazing... if you order the right things! I mean, everything is delicious in its own way, but these are their best items: chicken saltimbocca, chicken marsala, eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, linguini frutti di mare, tortelloni, mannicotti, chicken cannelloni, penne cardinale (not on the menu, but they will still make), pizza angelo, salmon w/ pesto, and fettucine supremo. The salads are all great. And for dessert, try the new chocolate hazelnut mousse cannolis, yum! Also, to the reviewer below me, just because there are open tables doesn't mean there shouldn't be a wait. I don't know what time you came in, but if it was a late lunch, I'm guessing you mean between 3 and 5. Well, there was probably only 1 or 2 servers there, and at Buca a server can only have 22 guests max that they are waiting on at one time. It's like that at most restaurants, it ensures that the service they give is great and not frantic. Also, the cannolis are not pre-filled! Oh and ask for a table next time, so you dont have to deal with booth problems. Pros: service, fun atmosphere, always leftovers! more

Average Food, Silly Ambiance 5/8/2007

Visited for a late lunch on 5-5-07. There were several parking spaces and no one waiting in the foyer, indicating quick seating. However, the host informed us that there would be a 25 minute wait. And he was right! While being taken to our booth (following a strange path through the kitchen) we noticed several empty seats and booths. So why the danged wait?! Pros: Good for large groups Cons: Long wait for seats. Booths are grungy. Average food. more

Family style Italian! 11/20/2006

Buca is one of my favorite group dining places in all of Austin. To go to Buca and fully appreciate the food there, I recommend going there with a large group of 5 or more people! Their portions are EXTREMELY large and at a great price too! Remember not to order as if the food was served per individual, otherwise you will get much more than you bargained for! Not only will you enjoy the food and staff, but you will also enjoy the humorous decorum that can easily fill up any silences in coversation! For an especially fun time at Buca with a large group, I recommend asking for the Pope Room! The Pope Room is a large circular table/room that allow you to talk to the person directly across from you by the bouncing of sound off the walls/ceilings! And if you aren't completely filled up after you entrees, I recommend getting the desserts that they have like some good canoli or tiramasu! The only thing I have left to say about this place is "YumMMMmmmmm... *BURP*" Pros: Good Food at a Great Price Cons: Not that great for 1-2 people more

if you are looking for a great place with famiiar food for a celebratory event, definitely check out this place. everything is served family style so people can try multiple dishes. the wine flows liberally and the food is executed well. plan on staying for at least two hours. great pasta and chicken marsala. desserts are great too, especially since everyone "just wants a bite" Pros: everything Cons: seating is pretty limitted more

For The Great Time That You Were Least Expecting 7/20/2006

Alright... walk in the door and you are immediately bombarded with the ostentatiousness of the decor. Take on having a sense of humor while you're there and look around, you'll never be at a loss for self-entertainment. We came on a slightly busy night, but we never lacked for service. We were sat fairly quickly and our server was amazing! Zak, was our server and the guys knows his stuff. He's definitely someone to hang out with for dinner. I asked for lime and I got a whole lime sliced. Had the house Chianti and I really enjoyed. It wasn't too dry and a great compliment to the Quattro Al Forno that we shared. The food was delicious. I'm not sure I ever had so much fun eating pasta. I was pleasantly surprised to see the manager came to our table more than once to see how we were doing. I had my children with me and they were completely entertained by Zak who spoke to them and made sure they had everything that they needed or desired. Tasty stuff ! 1/3/2006

I ordered the sampler - quattro al foirno , manicotti , lasanga, etc.. plus the fried mozzerella , and bread ... it was good , the sauce especially was yummy and the ingredients seemed very fresh. I have only ordered take out , but the restaurant seems like very cozy place, and nice people. .. had some difficult re-ordering the first person I spoke with didn't know about this option...I like the location central Pros: authentic fresh, portions, sauce Cons: ordering more

It is a fun idea but overall the experience is average. It is good for groups unless you need to set a menu ... then it becomes overpriced. The food was about the same quality as any other chain italian food place. The themed rooms are kinda fun but get old if you go there more than once. Pros: theme Cons: big groups more
