Editorial review from Citysearch 7/17/2012

They tried to poison me with salt! My wife (a chef herself) and I had very high expectations for eating here and were horribly disappointed. Mediocre service and ambience was topped-off with a dish so heavily salted that I had to drink four bottles of water in quick order after the meal to help alleviate my dry, swollen throat and pounding headache. I should have sent it back but we were running late and I had already sent the dish back once because it arrived undercooked. Clearly, there is no oversight here by Chef Keller and the kitchen staff has no real sense of professional pride in what they do. Horrible experience. Avoid this place. more

Tom Keller No Longer Cares 5/1/2012

I have been here many times over the last 6 years, and I can honestly say the quality has taken a nose dive. Examples? Last night I had a ""Endive Salad"" that was missing menu apples ingredient - and the manager told me that it was excluded because they were no longer in season? Seriously? Apples are now hard to come by? Additionally, the food was bland. The waiter was interested in one thing - pushing the tab up. We paid 7 bucks for filtered tap water, when most restaurants just give you that! The chicken was good, but perhaps a bit too much salt and not enought flavor (like it was made in bulk days ago). The french fries (they actually admitted) were from a frozen bag - thats horrific - heck even TGI Fridays has hand cut fries! Unfortunatly, in the world of food, its part of the cycle of life, a great chef must eventually kick back and ride the profit wave, in order for new restaurants to pop up. This is the perfect example. more

Good food, rude waitress! 7/1/2011

The food is pretty good, unfortunately some of the wait staff needs to loose the attitude. I was excited to be taking my husband out for his birthday. My excitement took a drive when I asked our waitress about a good wine pairing with my meal. She rolled her eyes. I was simply asking a question and this response was clearly uncalled for. She continued to roll her eyes a few times during the evening. Even as she was taking my credit card, she sneered at me. I seriously was about to leave 0 tip, but my husband convinced me that the other wait staff/busboys/servers, etc would loose out as well. She needs to be demoted to head dishwasher! more

Undercooked Chicken is supposed to be that way! 3/6/2011

My wife was setting me all up for a great meal at a very fine restaurant. We are seated promptly and were offered water right off the bat. No mention it was going to cost us $7.00 til the bill was presented. So be real careful to specify tap and send the waiter back with the water in hand unless you want to spring for the spring water. I order the chicken and we split a salad. The waiter was pleasent and say's the salad is big enough to split and brought out an extra plate - no hassle. The chicken dinner arrived and I get about half way thru it 'and find the middle part is raw! I call the waiter and ask him ""Doesn't this look undercooked and raw to you? He replys "" Oh that is because the vascular area is adjacent to the bone and just looks that way"" Then walks like FU. I'm looking around - WTF and can't even get a chance to send it back to have it cooked. I didn't eat anything more after that. The waiter doesn't show up til again until the assistants have cleared the plates and it's dessert time. Needless to say I will not be going back there again. The chicken I did eat was good but didn't meet my expecitations based on some of the review's I've read. We ate at several restaurants in this price range and this was by far the worst dining experience we had in Vegas. My wife is a little more forgiving but I just hate paying $150 for a dineer had have to experience this kinda thing. more

not what we expected 1/4/2011

Food was just ok, nothing out of common, but expensive. Our waiter was impertinent, and we felt judged because we didn't order an appetizer, and wanted to go straight to the main course. I saw other waiters in the restaurant being nice and courteous, but this guy ( superior attitude, dark blond hair, goatee) was treating us like he was doing us a favor. We had the duck a l'orange and the scalops, and it took them 45 minutes to bring the food over. We had to ask for our drinks to be refilled for two times. We were not sure what to choose for desert and when my husband asked the waiter what he recommended, he answered: I don't know, it depends on what you want. Another waiter, or busboy stood next to our table for as long as we were there, ""observing "" the room, and I noticed him listening to our conversation for several times. All in all, not a friendly, welcome atmosphere, a pompous place, rigid. And again, the food lacked that ""wow!"", special factor that you would expect to come with a pretentious, expensive meal. It was just common flavor in very small portions with some stuff smeared on the plate to give you the feeling that it is fancy and refined, in an attempt of copying the elegant presentation of food in famous restaurants. But mostly we were upset with the bad service. Hire some nice, courteous waiters who are capable to make your customers feel welcome and not ruin their appetite. Will never go back! more

Too ""French"" for me 5/17/2009

Tables were covered with thick white paper. Bread was served directly onto the paper cover. Hope it was replaced after previous customers. You can get the same quality of paper cover at the Macaroni Grill. At least there they write on it so you know you got a new cover. No bread plates, you had to keep putting your bread onto the table cover. The bread was a fancy woven design so had lots of crust and not much bread inside. If you want salt or pepper you have to ask for it, no shakers on the table. The waiter comes over and grinds the salt like they do pepper. Guess it is unacceptable to salt and pepper your own food. Fish served with the head on. French style? My wife thought the menu was rather limited and really did not find anything she liked. My daughter did not like it at all as it did not come across as a ""fancy"" restaurant. She had steak and just barely was I able to stop her from asking for A-1 Sauce. She thought the steak was dry. The sound was pretty bad as there is little if any thought to sound control. Voices echo off the walls and if you want you can eavesdrop on conversations across the room. Unless you are really into ""authentic"" French food, I would not recommend this place. Pros: Reasonable price Cons: Crude and loud. more

Great Food, Service Lacking 4/22/2009

We recently went to dinner at Bouchon ( April 09 ) on our Vagas trip. Loving food and fine dining, I was really looking forward to this one. The hostess was friendly and we were seated quickly. Everyone who served us was professional- with the exception of our waiter, who seemed to have last worked at a fast food joint. I ordered the field greens salad with warm goat cheese, my husband ordered the mussels. Our waiter managed to topple my salad in front of me, spilling leaves and goat cheese all over the table. He apologized in a way that made me think he was doing me a favor by taking back the salad, and promptly left our table littered with leaves and dressing ( nobody offered to clean up the mess ). I had to laugh to keep myself from saying something nasty. I ordered the salmon and my husband the lamb, portions were ok and the food was great, the salmon was flavorful and moist while the lamb was tender and cooked a perfect medium. Thumbs up to the chefs! But alas, our waiter neglected us, and it took standing up out of the chair for him to notice anything. The bad service climaxed at the end out our meal, when our waiter gave us the wrong receipt to fill out with how much we wanted to tip and sign off on the card. It took a better part of 20 minutes for him to pick up the check and then notice his mistake, forcing us to fill out a second silly form while already impatient to finally leave. Leaving this poor service in the past, Bouchon has a great little bakery outpost on the casino floor in the Venetian. Croissants are flavorful and can be toasted, eclairs and desserts are to die for! The service at the bakery far exceeds that which is had in the restaurant. Pros: really awesome bakery near Venetian Casino Cons: Service that needs improvement more

Best. Meal. Ever. 1/24/2009

My friend and I went Jan. 09 during our Vegas trip. Both of us being foodies, Bouchon was on the top of our list of restaurants to go based on their reputation (thanks, Anthony Bourdain!). We were not disappointed. We went during brunch time. Both the hostess and our waiter were courteous and friendly. We ordered the Czar Nicholas Sturgeon to split, which was one of the specials. The waiter brought us homemade jam and butter. Our fish was well cooked and the flavors balanced perfectly with each other. My friend, who is not as cultured as I am when it comes to food said it was the best meal he's every had. I would have to agree that is one of the best meals I have ate at a restaurant. The whole experience was perfect. Pros: Excellent food and service. Cons: Bit difficult to find in the hotel. more

Bad Service Outweighs the Positives 11/21/2008

Lately people have commented on the poor service here. I've been here twice -- in January and November 2008. Both times, the service left a lot to be desired. However, in November it was much worse. Our server got a table of 10 she had to take care of, and once that happened, she was out of sight for us. Another server had to take over the table next to us, since she was unable to get to them to take their order. Ultimately at the end, they forgot to give us the pastry chef chocolate/mini dessert dish because they were so disorganized. Pros: Great food Cons: Poor service, ambience/decor somewhat disappointing more

Worst Steak I Have Ever Eaten 6/16/2008

This place is fine - it's a decent approximation of a French bistro, two of my friends at the table were served two of the absolute worst steaks I've ever tasted. They had the consistency of a microwaved Hungry Man dinner. Seriously. And this isn't me just bitching or being annoying. My chicken entree was actually really good. But this steak was perhaps the worst thing I've ever been served in a restaurant of any level. I mean if there's one thing a French bistro anywhere in the world should be able to do well, it's Steak Frites. Obviously, onion soup is the other and based on the reviews here we didn't even touch that one. Add this to the list of basics they can't seem to grasp. Uch. Disgusting. more
