Big City Tap has all the makings of a great neighborhood pub - the kind of place to hang out with friends after work and share stories over a few pints. Sadly, however, they've adopted the increasingly common practice among bars of photographing their patrons IDs. I've asked about the practice, and they were elusive with their answer. I suspect, but cannot confirm, that the reason is for selling the information to marketing firms. Whatever the reason, I find the practice unacceptable. In the absence of a law protecting patrons from the bar's improper use of that information, the only way to discourage the practice is to vote with your dollars and go somewhere else.
