It was worth the wait, and their menu was perfect for what we were looking for, Pros: Food was good Cons: They were a little busy and had to wait a long time

Terrible Customer Service 8/28/2011

Beth's cafe has a definite customer service problem and until they resolve it, don't go. Please note that I am writing this review 24+ hours after my first and last visit to this restaurant. So what is wrong with the customer service? A few things first, the manager on duty at this time was Luke. My party of 8 and myself was asked to leave this restaurant because the manager was having a bad day. < I was told this by another restaurant patron that knows the manager and overheard the conversation between myself and the manager.> I simply inquired about how much longer was the wait time? My party of 8 and myself was told then to leave and upon requesting of the manager's name I was told that he will call the police. Which I responded with please do. But the biggest problem, by far, was that I was first denied the managers real name. When I was finally told by the manager his name I was told Jonnie White. I left the restaurant. It was then the police arrived and I asked them to confirm the managers? name. To my surprise his real name was not Jonnie White! It took me requesting of the police for me to obtain the managers real name. I would like you to know the police were very polite and confirmed that this was a civil issue and they have a right to refuse service to anyone. I thanked the police and left with my party. During the whole conversation I had with the police the manager that did not come out to speak with them. There was no attempt of an apology or acknowledging they were at fault at any time. This was confirmed by a follow up phone call to the restaurant the next day in which I was trying to provide my contact information for the owners. All I was seeking was a meek ""we're sorry."" Do yourself a favor and move along, please notice this is not the first review regarding their poor customer service. more

CAN YOU SAY, CUSTOMER SERVICE CLASSES? 3/25/2011

I gave it one star only because they wouldnt let me publish this without rating it first but truely, this place deserves no stars......My daughter and i went to BETHS CAFE for her birthday breakfast one day and even though the food wasnt the best i've ever tasted, we decided that we were going to make that place our weekly meeting place cuz it was kinda cool lookin inside......The second time we went i asked our waitress for a half order of the corned beef hash and when she brought the plate, there was so much food i asked her if it was the half order and was told yes........When we recieved the bill i was shocked to see they had charged me 11 dollars, 11 DOLLARS!!!! for this plate of food, I thought it had to be some kind of mistake. So I flagged down the person who had seated us and was yelled at to my face so loud that every one in the place was rubber neckin and could AND DID hear that, ""they dont do half orders of that dish, and that the waitress that took our order has worked there for 14 years and she knows that so when i asked her if that was a half order, she probably thought i was talking about something else.""....PLEASE, is the woman on drugs????.. He made me feel like i was trying to pull something over on them. While i was arguing with him about it, he was going back and forth consulting with the waitress that took our order, (now why she wouldnt' come to the table herself beats the hell out of me,. I'm thinking maybe she was the one trying to pull something, eh?), he comes back to the table one last time and brings me a new bill and says ""I took 50 percent off your food THIS TIME, but you need to remember that we dont do half orders on that dish for next time you come in""......well, dont you think that someone needs to tell the waitress that then?!! AND what do you mean, ""next time"" YEAH like there will be one of those...oh and also ..can you say NO TIP EITHER ASSHOLLLE!!!!!!!. When i went up to the cashier to pay the bill, the person behind the counter didnt even look me in the eyes, she said not one word to me but was talking to every one else around me......They seriously need to give those people working there some customer service classes. About the food?? If that was the full order i got it sure wasnt worth no 11 dollars because although there was alot of food, it tasted lousy, and i'm not saying that cuz i'm mad, it truely was not very good,....my kids ordered the biscuits and gravy and the biscuits were so hard they couldnt even cut them with there forks. more

Food Poisioning 2/14/2011

My son and three of his friends ate at Beth's cafe last night and they all had food poisoning. My son had to go to the hospital. more

The Best Diner Experience 4/27/2010

If you are looking for a perfect definition of a Seattle Diner, Beth's is the way to go. Excellent service, interesting decor, and most delicious food that you can get any time of the day! Pros: Interesting atmosphere, excellent food, open 24 hours more

Good Food Any Time 4/27/2010

I've been going to Beth's for years and years and the food is good, the servers are usually fun and friendly, and the decor is always interesting. You can colour while you wait for your food (I recommend breakfast food, as it's their speciality), so the wait doesnt' seem that long and then you can stick it on the wall for others to enjoy! This place isn't high class and stuck up with folded napkins and soft music to distract you from the high price menus.... it's just good food! Pros: Open 24/7, Unique Cons: Hard to get into on the weekends more

Pretty much what you would think but better 4/25/2010

Beth's delivers delicious, generous portions for a pretty good price. The wait staff might seem a little testy, but they've probably already been taking care for angry drunks for 8 hours today so cut them some slack. The coffee is great and bottomless, the soup is terrifying but no one gets it anyway, and the Reuben is about six times better than anyone expects. You should probably go right now, because it's open. It's always open (except Thanksgiving and Christmas). Pros: delicious breakfast food, sandwiches, burgers, generous Cons: grease, more

Part of what makes Seattle home. 4/25/2010

Beth's Cafe is exactly what you would expect from a 24 hour diner on aurora: diverse, colorful, greasy and constantly hopped up on caffeine. Beth's busiest hours are between 1 am and 5 am. If you're looking for a lively, goofy, indy/hipster/punk cross section of the city, Beth's is the place to be at that hour. (Expect a wait, but you can hang out in the game room with the same, lively people and play some pinball.) The jukebox is always playing, the waitstaff is pressed for time, but often still playful, and you can kick back with your food and unlimited coffee and ""bottomeless hash browns,"" and appreciate the crayon and paper souvenirs that have been left behind on the walls by patrons before you. If this busy atmosphere isn't for you, go to Beth's during the daylight hours. The diner is rarely packed during the day, and you get the same delicious food and coffee in a more laid-back atmosphere. Keep in mind, the waitstaff doesn't stand on ceremony, but that shouldn't be mistaken for being rude. They're all great people who love the diner, and they don't waste their time being fake. So if you're craving coffee, hash browns and some of the most interesting people in Seattle, get on down to Aurora. Pros: Great food, fun atmosphere, wifi, people worth talking to more

First experience at Beth's 4/18/2010

Went ot Beth's for dinner on Friday night. No wait, everyone was friends and got seated right away. Service was fast and our waitress never let the coffee run out, even fixed juke box when it ate coins and didnt deliver. \r Bathroom was interesting, but all the talk I'd heard about it being not clean in Beth's were wrong as far as I could see. Lots of drawings on walls, that was fun. Lots of different types of people, what you want when you visit the big city. Pros: Great service, hot food and lots of it Cons: parking would be difficult at time more

Bad place and ambience 4/11/2010

Its a very shady place with regular breakfast. You can get the same at many better places in seattle. The waitors look, talk and act wierd. (may be its the drugs). All the time we thought will they prepare the food right. kind a scary.... \r Coming back to food, it turned out ok but for sure you can find similar tasting or better food at the same price at hundreds of place in seattle. \r Pros: Just dont go Cons: Pros above says it all. more

The Best Place on Earth! 4/8/2010

I'm here just about everyday. I love the staff as well as the constant change in atmosphere throughout the day. Beth's is not everyone's cup of tea (but the never ending cups of coffee sure makes up for it!!) It's important to know that Beth's can become extremely busy in a matter of minutes on weekends and at night; the music is louder, the servers are less personal (due to the rush) and the type of people visiting are a bit more diverse (for lack of a better word). Basically, the nights and weekends are for those of you who are not in a huge rush and just want to hangout and have a good time. And for those of you who prefer the more personal, quiet meals, visit anytime during a weekday. I spend several hours around 2pm working on homework, surfing the web (free wifi), listening to music, drawing, taping things to the wall and chatting with the staff. It's very nice and relaxing. Over all the food is a bit greasy but still great! The people are always interesting to watch. And the different pictures along the walls inspire the child in you. If you have plans to visit (its awesome here) please do, just come in with an open mind and in a time where the atmosphere best suits you. Pros: jukebox, art, 24hrs, wifi, never ending coffee, fun servers more

Perfect portions 3/25/2010

Perfect portions- I don’t eat a lot and so a breakfast place that has small portions is a plus for me! One egg, one pancake and one slice of bacon perfect! more

WOW...We were shocked!!! 2/2/2010

While visiting Seattle I recalled a man vs. food episode and suggested Beths Cafe to my wife and children. Upon enetering we were rudely seated!! The host commented ""great, kids"" and walked away. We sat there 15 or so minutes before we got someone to wait on us...there were only 3 other tables there and 2 already had food. When we ordered my son,14, ordered a 6 egg omlett and the waitress said no,""its a waist of food,it's too big for you, get something else"". My wife said pardon me and the waitress said Iam not talking to you. The guy in the next booth said"" stupid tourist"". We got up and started to leave when this guy says good riddence...wtf did we do? Oh yeah..to .the guy who couldnt keep his mouth shut, I believe it was ""Bob"" or ""Rob"", I have your ear ring, it must got stuck in my hand Pros: They have an exit! Cons: Not enough time to write it all down more

A rude, racist, homophopic establishment. 12/29/2009

A group of my friends and I went to Beth's Cafe, solely for the purpose of seeing what the fuss was about. We saw a portion of the travel Network advocating Beth's cafe. As I was entering the restaurant, the host rudely mumbled something I was unable to understand so I politely ask him to repeat himself. He proceeded to treat me like I did not speak English and yelled ""HOW-MANY?"" in my face. As an Asian woman in Seattle who speaks perfect English I have never been treated in such blatantly aggressive xenophobic way. He took us to our table before we had a chance to sit down he said "" what the hell? Don't eye f**k me. your in my house now, you don't like it, leave"". Needless to say we walked out immediately, as we left he sneered ""that's right"". I have worked in food service, I understand the frustration with people who are rude and demanding. There was no provocation on our part I am deeply confused as to how a business can employ such a staff and remain solvent. Cons: unbelievable rude and aggressive staff. more

Great Food.. 11/30/2009

It was worth the wait, and their menu was perfect for what we were looking for, Pros: Food was good Cons: They were a little busy and had to wait a long time more

It's a Dive for sure! 9/6/2009

I watches man vs. food episode and seen him order the Southwestern Exposure omelette. He competed with a friend to finish the omelette, but neither could. Now I now why. The chilli and egg combo don't work and the sour cream just made it worse.\r After plowing through half of it just trying to see if my pallet would adjust was a mistake. I new if I took one more bite everything I ate would be back on the table.\r Luckally I had a cigar in the car to rid me of the after taste.\r If you go let your first instinct about the place guide you and find somewhere else to eat. I now believe Man vs. Food is all hype. Pros: Man vs.Wild could survive there! Cons: Food, Service and appeal. more

Avoid this place if you're gay or hungry!! 6/8/2009

I went in this past Saturday evening around 10 PM to meet two people who had travelled here from Georgia and specifically wanted to go to Beth's, as they had been there years ago on another visit. They did not know I was coming so were seated and had just gotten their food when I arrived. They were seated at a booth for four (as that is basically all Beth's has). I asked the ""waitress"" for a menu and she refused, saying there was a ""no joiner"" policy on the weekend. I thought she was kidding as I have (nor has anyone I've spoken to since) ever heard of something so nonsensical! She went about her duties completely ignoring me, except for the occasional sneer and nasty look in my direction. The guy in the booth next to me said he had been refused service because he was in the restroom when she came and took the other members of his table's order - so three of them were served and he was not (although they did give him a milkshake, somehow.) I asked another waitress what the deal was and she reiterated this ""no joiner policy."" I asked to speak to the manager because I said I wasn't joining their ticket, just ordering something on my own and sitting at their table. This ""manager"" came to the table, snarled nastily, ""that's the policy, deal with it"" and walked off. The first ""waitress"" came back (clearly trying to smooth the situation so she wouldn't lose her tip) and tried to explain this ""no joiner"" thing was there so that the tables could be turned over sooner - I asked her about the two people that were sitting behind us playing cards holding up a table for four. She said they came in as two people...again, this made no sense! I asked, ""so you're just refusing to serve me, right?"" and she snarkily said, ""with an attitude like that, yes."" So I, a paying customer, was not allowed to order...still not sure how the guy next to me was ""allowed"" to have a milkshake when I couldn't even get a cup of coffee!! Upon leaving I asked this ""manager,"" who was running the register, to explain how a paying customer could not even get a cup of coffee when there were empty booths in the restaurant and no one waiting to be sat in them. He nastily said, ""That's the policy. If you don't like it, don't come back!"" I said he was behaving like a d**k, so he called me a ""f*g"" and told me to leave. Not only did this homophobic manager belittle me in front of family, he was an absolute unprofessional! Beth's has never been known to be more upscale than it is and has always been happily accepted as such, but when a paying customer innocently comes in, is refused service because of some arbitrary policy and is then called a f*g by the manager, there is something very VERY wrong!! Cons: Bad management!! more

excellent greasy brekkers 5/7/2009

Killer diner food with added entertainment of the rambling conversations of the cook and staff. Funny drawings, too. Went on a Tuesday morning on a day off and was so stoked to not have to wait in line. Just got seated right away and within moments a big ol plate of food plonked down. Perfect greasy/crispy hashbrowns. yes. Pros: during the week is great--no waiting! more

Elephant in the room 4/12/2009

The food was pretty good and our service was great. I don't care if the staff has piercings, tats or whatever. But out of all the reviews I've read - good and bad - not one of them mentions how filthy the place is. It's like the elephant in the room that nobody wants to acknowledge. I'd like to go there again because my food was good, but I can't because it's so freaking' dirty. Not everyone who goes there is drunk, so there are some of us who do notice when a place needs a good scouring at the very least. I don't mind run down and old, but this is far beyond that. Sorry, Beth's. Pros: Good food Cons: Filthy place more

Not all it was cracked up to be! But if you like to swim in butter then this is the place to be 2/27/2009

The feel is cozy enough with fun patron created pictures all over, but the famous ""12 egg omelette"" was as big as expected, being served on a pizza plate. However, it does not matter how big anything is served when it is not good food. The hash browns tasted only like butter and begged to be rescued out of the pool of butter. The omelette was an event just to see, but very untasty unless you again like butter. There was literally a pool of butter sitting on the massive pile of egg. I did like the well used look of the cafe and the staff were friendly enough. I would recommend this place only because it is worth getting some coffee and taking in the cafe itself. Try at own risk Pros: Seattle staple, fun Cons: terrible food, not clean more
