Best

My mom ended up bringing me to this place for my birthday a year or two ago, and it was so good! I ended up getting this steak with this reduction wine sauce and I also got french...

Worst

Got seated right away, hmmm, no wait on a saturday for brunch? That should have been our first clue. Slow, poor service from the start. Wanted a Waffle, sorry it is 2:05, can't...

Ooh La La! 3/15/2003

What a find for a Friday night! With no reservations, we scored a spot at the bar and were treated to interesting candlelit ambience and surprisingly tasty food. We had the salad with tuna and nicoise olives- mmm and the fondue with a banana crepe for dessert. I enjoyed the funky ambience and diverse customers and staff. It was well worth the drive from the suburbs. Very Berkeley-esque! Pros: Good ambience, interesting menu, casual Cons: busy, parking not easy more

Great Valentines dinner! 2/15/2003

Fixed-menu dinner was a real treat. Soup was parsnip with roasted red pepper - yummy - and a great way to warm up! We skipped the salad and went right to our main courses: we chose seabass in miso broth (exquisite) and steak with foie gras (wonderfully flavorful). Desert was an extraordinary hazelnut icecream, and a heart-shaped chocolate tarte with raspberries. Despite the packed restaurant, the service was very good, and the ambiance (including a live singer) very romantic. We'll definitely go back to sample the regular menu in the future. Pros: Taste, Ambiance more

the best relaxing place in Uptown 12/20/2002

Cafe Weird? For those who remember this name, I salute you. I have seen the transformation of the Cafe Weird into the Cafe Barbette, and, to be quite honest, I like the later just as much as I liked the old place. It is an ultimate place for an uptown dweller to relax, enjoy an extensive drink menu (be that a cappuccino, beer, or wine), and enjoy brilliant creations the chef has to offer. Pros: atmosphere, drink menu, cute servers Cons: blah-blah-blah more

Never fails 10/28/2002

I've been to Barbette three times in the last two months for dinner, and it has always been worth the high price. I usually sit up to the bar, and the service is great. I haven't made it through the whole menu, but nothing's been a disappointment. My hearty thanks to the chefs for the perfect salad nicoise, the flavorful fish and pork tenderloin and the apple/pastry dessert that I could taste in my dreams one night. Pros: Delicious food, Ambience, Informal Cons: Expensive more

Fun for wine drinkers 8/23/2002

I love wine and when I can go and have a great bottle at a great price well, I am there! The food has been hit or miss. I have had a great lunch and so so dinner. I don't really think of it as a dinner place. Barbette is better for wine and apps before you go to dinner or to finish the night. Service generally has been good. I have had only one time when the waitperson was slow but over all just fine. The ambience is comfortable and makes me think of the old Jitters on Nicollet. Pros: Wine list, Apps Cons: Okay food more
