Great place for a quite early dinner, or a late night party! 1/26/2009

I have been to Bar Marmont a few (5) times now and find it hands down my favorite place in Hollywood. The menu is great and fairly affordable, there is also a great and cheap wine selection under $40. It varies day to day I have been there on a Monday night with a friend for dinner and had a great time. There was cool DJ's and great crowd. Also i had a birthday dinner in a private room with 15 people. There was no extra charge for the room and they had a very reasonable price per head deal 3 courses for 45$ per head. The staff are so friendly and greet me as one of their own it is so refreshing. I have had a great time at this bar and hopefully will continue to frequent it often. Some good advice is the valet is half price $ 9 if you get there before 9pm (everyday). Also they have a great happy hour from 6-9pm i had half a dozen oysters and a glass of great wine all for $12. Pros: Great lighting, good food, cheap valet before 9pm, happy hor 6-9pm Cons: expensive valet after 9pm find a park on the street more

All hype, can't deliver - what a waste!! 12/3/2008

This place was such a letdown, I don't even know where to begin. I ordered a house specialty drink only to have it arrive mostly filled with ice, and containing barely any of the main ingredient - vodka! It was essentially a $15 glass of ice. My dinner was even worse - I ordered a pilaf which could have passed as pureed mash from a retirement home. It was not gourmet cuisine - it was gourmet oatmeal. Mush. A runny plate of mush with 1/4 sprout of cauliflower in it. I paid $40 for ice and mush. I think it can be assumed I am never coming back here! Pros: Good location on Sunset blvd Cons: Bad food, weak drinks, overpriced, bad decor more

monday nights is the best night. 3/16/2008

hey, i've been reading some of the negative feedback for the bar here. however, i go on monday nights, and it's very tame, and always fine to casually walk in, have dinner, or order the drink. they have live dj's there spinning really interesting music, and the staff was really cool. valet is pretty steep but you can always park around the streets. definitely worth a second chance. Pros: mondays are chill, and good music Cons: expensive valet more

STAY AWAY! 1/15/2008

This place stinks. After leaving another bar on Sunset we stopped by Bar Marmont for a drink before calling it a night. The guy at the door was extremely rude and so was the alleged manager/owner. They only wanted to let select members of our party in as if we were just going to abandon the others on the street, despite the fact it was completely dead inside. They are complete snobs and there are much better places to party on the Sunset Strip without the pretentiousness and attitude. Don't bother going as it's not worth the hype. This place is very lame!!!!! more

Made a booking, could not get in! 11/22/2007

Heard of the great reputation this place once had. Made a booking for 6 of us for September 21. There were people and cars everywhere. The booking we had meant nothing to the guy on the door, who told us we would have to wait because they had no room for us. Very disappointing and we won't be back. Had a great night anyway further down Sunset Blvd Pros: Atmosphere and ambience Cons: Customer Service is not a priority more

Couldn't get in after making reservations 8/18/2007

Made reservations and went there Saturday night with my wife. Paid $20 for valet, and was denied entry by the rude doorman in front. I don't think he liked that we were middle eastern. more

Not as great as I thought it would be 8/6/2007

I had such high expectations for this bar and was really let down. Make a reservation and you will get right in the doorman scooted us right thru the ropes no problem. However you walk right dab into the stinkiest, smokefilled room. People sitting and crouching smoking up a storm so for the rest of the night you smell like an ashtray. When you walk in you are looking down on the bar which was cool, we were passed by once by the hostess but the second hostess was very nice, called me by name and seated us in the bar area. The server was nice but did not like repeating herself which she had to do because the bar was so loud. My friend thought she was really rude. The tempura calamari was out of this world. Lemon drop was just so-so but my friend ordered a specialty drink off their menu with mint in it and loved it. the bar scene itself was boring....dazed people dancing by themselves in the corner. We left after about 45 minutes. more

Great (strong) drinks, cool legendary atmosphere, terrible service 8/5/2007

It's almost a joke how bad the service is. Except it's not that funny when your drinks cost $15+. The door men are usually cool. I mean, their job is to keep the place exclusive, so don't expect to get in if you look awful, but otherwise that aspect is fine. The girls who work inside are the problem. Maybe they only pay attention to rich looking men, but the last time I was there (just me and a girlfriend) we were literally ignored when we went to the section to order food, after wrongly being told the kitchen was closed, oh, wait, no it's actually still open, but ... blah blah. Another time I was there, perhaps at a less busy time, the service was fine, but not outstanding. I'm going to stop complaining now, because, I think you'd be a fool to go to Bar Marmont in hopes of outstanding service. It's BAR MARMONT. You're lucky to be in there, right? That seems to be the general concensus. Drinks are great, location great, decor great, has the history, has the name. Go if you want, don't if you don't. Pros: Sunset Strip location, history, decor, yummy strong drinks Cons: rude girls work there more

not as good as before 3/13/2007

Bar Marmont used to be awesome before the re-do, not so much anymore. But the food is pretty delish. Pros: Nice looking place Cons: often dead, sometimes alive with the wrong crowd more

Clueless, with "green" doorkids 2/21/2007

Arrived with LA publicist and undisclosed celebrity (movie opened at #5 this past weekend) Monday night. Dead scene, virtually no one. Rudely not allowed entry by two nerdy kids who were "green" like they just got here from some obscure mid-western town, just woke-up look, trying hard to look like jaded LA-natives... when the publicist informed them of who it was, it was too late.... no more renovations needed, just get a clue Bar Marmont or shut down already... Pros: Quiet place for those wanting a dead scene Cons: "Green" kids working the door more

surprisingly awesome menu! 12/29/2006

Went in with some friends for the first time this week, didn't know what to expect, was dark and sultry atmosphere... the bartenders were super helpful and friendly but what I didn't expect was how great the food was! They have this tiny smoked trout potato appetizer that i can't stop thinking about... we started with those and some French cheese puffs that were pillows from heaven...we had to order a second round of em.. pretty much everything i ate i'm still thinking about and can't wait to go back.. Pros: Smoked trout potatoes, cheese puffs Cons: Valet $$ more

Wonderful Spot...but get there early 12/20/2006

After having a HORRIBLE dining experience at a different restaurant, my friends and I headed to Bar Marmont to hopefully save the evening and we were successful!! We were greeted by a familiar face that was very accommodating and welcoming. We luckily found a group of women seated at the bar who were leaving and kindly offered up there seats, as well as their untouched cocktail!! We of course declined the drink... The service was friendly and knowledgeable. The lady servers were dressed in cute, matching dresses and the decor reminded me of the Great Gatsby. And if you look for these things, there are purse hooks under the bar, which is not common in newer bars due to code. The bar filled up at about 11:30pm which was when we were ready to go and avoided the crowd. Pros: Interiors, Service, Location Cons: Crowds more

Horrified 9/11/2005

My worst LA dining experience ever. We were a table of 8, and half our food arrived, but the other half of our people were waiting on their food. Every 10 minutes, they would promise the other half. "It's on the way," they kept saying. Meanwhile, we saw other tables served items that were exactly the same items that we were waiting for. After 30 minutes, they admitted they had not yet started to make the missing food and did we still want it? Stunning. Then they offered to buy us our "second round," which consisted of 4 drinks. The bill arrived with the food we never received still on it. We suggested to the manager that his response was inadequate, but he wouldn't budge. On our way out, he made a sarcastic comment to us about how "nice" we were. more

Depends on when you go..... 4/23/2005

I've been here a few times and it seems to vary a lot. Last time I went, it wasn't that fun. Then again, there will always be cheesy people at bars and that's just life. There were a lot of people who just seemed like lame posers, but other times the crowd seems better. The drinks are very good, albeit a bit pricey- I think that well drinks are $9. I have to say that I love the ambience. It is dark, but not too dark and just has a cool vibe to it. It's quite small inside but it also has an outside area (mostly smokers). Overall, this place is not bad. I prefer it on weeknights when it has more of a mellow vibe than the "bridge and tunnel" weekend crowd. Side note, if you get valet and go somewhere else, they try to charge you $20. Pros: Good ambience, Drinks are wonderful, Romantic Cons: Parking, Hit or Miss crowd, Rather expensive more

worth the stop 3/15/2005

unpretentious, chill place to grab pre-drinks with the right kind of crowd. the lychee martini was yummy - not too strong but yummy tasting, tho drink prices are up there. i love places like this! Pros: good crowd, nice ambiance, great drinks more

Any night... 3/8/2005

This little bar is a great one to hit up any night of the week. Its always a good vibe here. A friend and I went late on a tuesday night and had a good drink and some great conversation. I always seem to meet interesting folks here too... hmm.... Pros: vibe and ambience, drinks Cons: parking- of course! more

Each time - someone famous 2/15/2005

Given my pre-conception of what this place might be like - i was pleasantly suprised. I was expecting it to be pretentious - but it wasn't. The bouncers and bartenders were actually normal. Very diverse crowd too - obviously many good-looking people, but they didn't all look like wanna-be actors. Everytime i've been here i've seen someone famous so it's a great spot for star-sighting more

Perfect 12/2/2004

Great place to spend an evening. A nice quiet and dark lounge with wonderful food and drink. Pros: Romantic, Good Food, Good Drink more

Hip place with fun and diverse crowd 10/1/2004

The bar has two floors, with tables to sit down and eat on the second floor. The food is quite good and the drinks are great. The crowd is a good mix of different young people of all backdgrounds all out to have fun. The music is also diverse, going from house to hip-hop to other genres. The main drawback is that the size of the venue is not too spacious, making it difficult to dance. Pros: Good mix of people, Food and drinks, Not too crowded Cons: , Nowhere to dance more

chilling in style 2/24/2003

Stopped by the Marmont the other night and had a blast, the atmosphere is very social, a hip place to see and be seen and people are downright chilling in style. The fact that there's no cover is amazing too... more
