Atelier Aveda Salonspa & Studio

I went to Kaila. While I have been to this location before, it had always been to Nancy Montes (a senior stylist). I had switched to a different salon for a couple of years, but since I loved Aveda when I used to go there, I decided to give it another shot. WHAT A MISTAKE. The haircut Kaila gave me was pretty much what I wanted, BUT within 2 hours after the haircut, my hair was absolutely flat and horribly oily. Her styling was mediocre at BEST (no bounce in my hair whatsoever after the haircut -- which is supposed to be the best part!) and whatever products she used made my hair so oily I had to wash it when I got home, and had to wash it EVERY DAY afterwards for more than a week (and usually I wash my hair every other day). When I went to Nancy, I used to try NOT to wash my hair since I looveed her styling and usually felt like a rockstar after -- Kaila needs to get a serious lesson from her. don't go here if you're getting a haircut/styling before a big day...you'll regret it. After some pretty bad experiences at another unnamed Aveda salon in Palo Alto, I decided to try Atelier. The salon is located in Santana Row, and from the moment I walked in, the staff was extremely inviting. The lady who worked the front desk was obviously well-trained; she offered me a cup of tea, gave me a tour and made sure to tell my stylist, Julie, that I had arrived. My hair was a mess from my previous Palo Alto Nightmare, and I had requested a senior stylist, and Julie did not disappoint. She was completely professional during her analysis of my hair, and she never once talked negatively about the horrid color I had in my hair--she just said she had a ""different approach that would get me my desired results."" She gave me tons of foils, and the conversation was just what I needed. When she was done with the foiling, the assistant gave me the best hand massage, and when she shampooed me, the scalp massage was divine. Julie fixed my haircut too, and she even taught me how to style my hair at home while she was blow-drying it -- no one has ever done that before. When I was paying, the makeup artist, Elizabeth (my daughter's name) gave me a consultation and great makeup application while telling me which products I should use. The manager introduced himself when I was leaving and asked about my experience and even gave me discount cards for my friends/family. This place really has a great staff that makes you feel like royalty. I will definitely be back & recommend it to everyone I know who needs a hair artist. This is a fabulous upscale salon. When I went here, I felt like a queen. I got a complementary scalp and hand massage. They really understand pampering and customer service. I went to Karie, who is the owner. She is fabulous. I have curly hair that I won't trust to most people to cut as they don't know how. If you have curly hair, go to Karie. She is the best. Anatasia gave me my shampoo and massage and she was great also. more

I have been to Atelier three times already, and they are always consistently superb! The salon is inviting and calm -- a peaceful sanctuary that renews you. All of the professionals are top-notch. Jessica, one of the hair stylists, is fabulous! I get highlights, and Aveda's proprietary dies are not only natural, they make your hair look fabuolous -- shiny and beautiful. Everyone at Atelier is there to serve you -- they never rush you out. There is always someone to greet you with a warm, delicious cup of hot tea. I got a complimentary hand rub while I waited for my hair to finish processing, and later, a scalp massage to boot! When I was done with my appointment, Elizabeth, makeup artist extraordinaire, touched up my makeup with Aveda's awesome makeup line. Elizabeth rocks! I left Atelier with a beautiful head of hair, a pretty glow, and feeling very relaxed. more

I am one of the most finicky people when it comes to my hair cut and color (I know, we all think that we are)... Seriously, I used to model for some of the top salons ""back in the day"" and am often really disappointed with the results of a salon visit. And the idea of finding a good new place when I move (which is often) just makes me nuts. That's why I was so thrilled to find such a great salon when I recently moved to San Jose. I would HIGHLY recommend Julie at Atelier. She's an excellent colorist and did a great cut too--she listened to my concerns and ideas and presented me with a clear plan--which she executed perfectly. I LOVE the way my hair looks and feels... and she took extra time to be sure I know how to style it myself at home (I am one of the styling-challenged). A woman named Janet waxed my eyebrows for me... she was also really amazing... she took a lot of extra time to do a perfect job! My eyebrows have the most lovely, natural shape now--and she wasn't just interested in selling me lots of other facial waxing services. I was really impressed by that as well. It is true that including Aveda products, I spent an arm and a leg--but at least I got my money's worth! And I'll be spending more in another 6-8 weeks without any hesitation! I really recommend this salon to you! I'm sure that all of their staff are friendly and talented--Julie and Janet were just really exceptional. It's definitely a high-end salon--but I'm happy to pay the prices if the results are good! What amazes me is how many crappy salons there are out there charging high end prices for average work... this is high end for high end--a real case of you actually get what you pay for. Very cool. I found Atelier on the internet and made an appointment when visiting San Jose from South Carolina in June. Kim worked wonders to make my frizzy hair straight and teach me how to make it manageable in our humid climate. The entire salon was so welcoming and took great interest in my ""hair perils"". My style has lasted all summer and I receive compliments almost daily. I would definitely return to Atelier if ever in the area again. more

Karie Bennett can work miracles. I went to see Karie to fix a hair disaster. I had gotten the most awful haircut at another salon in Milpitas. They totally messed up my hair, cut off chunks all around and ""feathered"" in about a million of hideous ""layers"". The hair made me unhappy for weeks until one day I decided to seek professional help and Karie is definitely a PRO!!! She turned the awful mess on my head into a mini makeover. The new cut is easy to style, chic and looks like it will grow out nicely. more

I have always loved AVEDA!! I came to the Atelier salon and decided to go with their Master Stylist, Jean Marie. It was such a welcoming experience when I first entered the salon. The staff was very attentive. I have extremely short hair and consulted with Jean Marie on creating a long hair look on myself with hair extensions. He was very knowledgeable and we worked together to creat the look I wanted. He is an amazing artist. The hair extensions look like my natural hair dark brown with carmel highlights. His technique is one of a kind. I would recommend him for hair extensions as well as color & cut. He will transform you and make you have the look you have always wanted. more

This is a new site for me but I was so disapointed when I got my hair done by Steve about a year ago. I am not sure if he is still there but I really want to share my experience. This guy is so unprofessional. I picked out a light reddish color. IT TURNED OUT BLACK. He was talking with the hair dresser next to him about his boyfriend and what was upsetting him that weekend. That was so unprofessional and I really did not need to hear that. He left color all around my hairline. He didn't even attempt to wipe it off. Then when I was paying for this disaster of a haircolor, he was yappin on the phone with someone. I assume his boyfriend about their plans for that night. I waved by and that was it. The manager needs to talk to this person because I will not go back to that salon. I cannot believe they would hire someone so unprofessional and VERY ARROGANT! i love the way they cut hair and do color,but it is so difficult to get an appointment with the same person. They have a very high personnel turn over.plus everytime i show up, they dont recognize the appointment i did one month ago !! it is very frustrating ! Also prices are super super expensive !! Yesterday was my first time at this salon. Right when I walked in I was greeted with a smile. I was seen right away!! All of the staff was very friendly. And I loved my hair. Super hair cut, super color: It has been a week since Karie at Atelier cut and colored my hair. I couldn't be happier. From the moment I walked into the salon until I left I was impressed. The salon is upscale, but not intimidating. All of the people with whom I interacted were professional and friendly and during all the time I was at the salon, I observed that the employees were working cooperatively as a team to create something special. The first time I went in to Atelier was to get some hair product (back in August 2006), then a very helpful rep asked if I wanted to schedule my next haircut there, and I did because I needed to get one anyway. Karie and Melissa at Atelier saved the day. My hair was ruined by another salon just 3 days before my son?s wedding. My hair came out bright orange, medium orange and snow white. It literally made people stare and gasp when I stopped to get gasoline before trying desperately to find someone who could fix the severe damage to my hair. I was crying, convinced my son?s wedding would prove me to be a major embarrassment to him. Seriously. I have always had curly hair. In the 70?s my mom would blow-dry it straight. In the 80?s it was big and fluffy. In the 90?s my only option was to keep is short because it just frizzed when it got long and there was no hope of looking like Nicole Kidman! I just moved here and use this site frequently to find a variety of services. I went to this salon due to the rating and paid the mandatory $20 for a 5 minute consultation. They stylist was nice, and said she could assist me with color on a regular monthly basis. Then I find out she is booked for over a month and that this is normal. Imagine if you had to cancel your appointment and reschedule. I have found it easier to get in with top doctors here than this salon, which is ridiculous. They should have told me the situation ahead of time and allowed me to either not make the appointment or find someone else there that has a better schedule. This was a waste of my time and money. So i have been looking for a salon that all the stylists are experienced and on the same level. I do know that their are senior stylists that have more experience, but they are all excellent. I have been going to atelier for about 2 years and i would never think of going anywhere else. It is such a comfortable environment and everybody is so professional and attentive to your every need. I have not been going to anyone in particular because i dont need to. The reason for this is because i know that all the stylists will do an equally divine job. I also trust all the stylists judgement. Because i have beeen going there for so long i have come to learn that all the stylist get put through the same program. And even if you just need to refill product or pick up some make-up the front end of the salon it is just as fabulous. Just like the stylist they are very passionate about what they do. I can just walk in there and not be hounded. Instead i am asked if i would like some of there great comforting tea or lemon water, It is so great, i dont know if you have ever been to santana row but walking through there you are asked a million questions, so going into atelier it is a big relief. If you ask me, i have been to so many salons and thi is the first and probably only salon that makes me want to come back again and again. I guarantee that this salon will be up to par with your standards, or even sky rocket past....... thanks atelier staff for making me #1...... I had a really bad haircut and went to Atelier in Santana Row to get it ""fixed"". Marissa Delory was fabulous, she listened to me, knows what she is doing and now I have a great cut. Highly recommend her. more
